LIVE DEBATE: The EU - in or out - Clegg vs Farage
pap replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Lounge
Tim Fallon on LBC right now saying Clegg won both debates, essentially by insisting black was white. EDIT: You Gov Poll 68% Farage 27% Clegg -
That's not what I advised at all. If the government is watching you, just wear something racy.

I finished this on the "good" path, and perhaps have more positive impressions than other reviewers here. I really enjoyed the story, as far as videogame stories go. The anti-authority theme appealed to me, as did Delsin's general predilection for causing trouble. The dynamic between him and his partners worked much better for me than the back and forth between Cole and his sidekick in the first games. The graphics are also awesome; anyone wondering why they bought a next-gen console will quickly have their questions answered. Powers have been chosen on how cool they look. I actually enjoyed using all of them, although #2 was my go-to power set for most combat encounters. The end of the game is very nice. Bad points? I've got no problem hunting down orbs or taking down D.U.P centres, but the agent missions were frustrating; the "hot and cold" folder missions plain boring. Also, there are sections of the game where you're locked down to one specific power. It's a pity that they didn't offer alternate options for these sections. Overall, a good game that is a real trailblazer for next gen graphics, let down by some of the optional side missions. Very encouraging to see something in this generation looking this good so early.

Minor spoilers for Walking Dead ahead. A lot of people who've only ever watched the TV show moan a lot when the Walking Dead goes on the road (ms pap's reaction was "no-one got killed", FFS). I think they've got different expectations about what the show is supposed to be about, and miss the point entirely. It allows the show to narrow its focus to develop characters and their relationships; Michonne becoming a surrogate mother/big sister to Carl is a good example of this. I really enjoyed this season. For me, it was all about condensing the show into a leaner, more hardened group of survivors. Apart from the sisters that sheltered the governor, no human survivor we saw in this episode is what you could call innocent. Walkers aren't really a threat unless they have the advantage of numbers and/or surprise. Other humans are the real danger; I don't think any season has managed to convey that with quite as much darkness as this one. It is now on a par with the source material in terms of the moral quandaries it presents. Carol in particular was excellent.

It's an interesting point. A lot of government power ultimately comes from an abrogation of communal or personal responsibility. You can't always link a call for government action with an abandonment of personal responsibility, though. The issue of flood protection in the Somerset levels is an area where the government could have helped a lot more without becoming a nanny state. Also, I'm not sure how relevant the point is to MH370. The apparatus of nation states is pretty much the only way we're going to get close to a resolution in any search, unless we "take responsibility" and jump into ocean going coracles. Who else really has the capacity to lead recovery efforts?

Did this occur in the 1980s?

It was irresponsible to completely rule out the northern arc on the assumption that the plane was maintaining a consistent speed. Further, they used this assumption to reach the conclusion that there were no survivors. If it's too early for judgements to be made, then that's one hell of a premature judgement call.

The original transcript came via Chinese sources; the Malaysians distanced themselves from its accuracy when it was leaked. http://www.examiner.com/article/flight-mh370-transcript-leaked-final-54-minutes-of-flight-mh370-communication That said, I think they were irresponsible when they declared that the plane had taken the southern track. The certainty was based on a lot of assumptions; they took the happy path and some serious questions will be asked if the plane is found somewhere else.
-
Another interesting piece, casting doubt on the assertion that the plane must have taken the southern arc. http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2014/03/31/mh370_search_inmarsat_data_we_re_right_where_we_were_three_weeks_ago.html

I'd say watch the whole video instead of relying on either of us for context, but FWIW, she says it twice - once at the start of the video with the qualification you mention, and once at the end without it. The problem with your three step solution is that everything is contingent on the first happening. There hasn't been any evidence of that so far. Both the UN and Pentagon have claimed that they didn't even detect an explosion. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/missing-jet/pentagon-data-suggests-jet-didnt-explode-new-york-times-n48186 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/rest-of-world/Flight-MH370-No-explosion-or-crash-detected-UN-N-watchdog-says/articleshow/32233725.cms Where does your thinking go if the plane is not found?

Given the fact that many intelligence agencies were worried that MH370 might have been used as a flying missile, fair enough question. Much fairer than your response, anyway

The Walking Dead wrapped for the season on Sunday night. It was a bit of a limp finale by Walking Dead standards. The mid-season did better in cliff-hanger standards, but anyone that has read the comic series will know that the tail end of this season has been typical Walking Dead. That all said, it probably featured one of the most emotionally disturbing scenes that the show has ever done, as Daryl's new pals show their true colours. Given the inspiration for the people up at Terminus, can't see them being a big part of next season.

Cheers for the recommendation. Looks like a well-reviewed book. http://www.amazon.com/Future-Fastforward-Zionist-Anglo-American-Meltdown/product-reviews/0978573315/ref=cm_cr_dp_see_all_btm?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

Good article here by Matthias Chang, former advisor to Mahathir Mohamed, originally published on Saturday. The trillion dollar question to the US and its intelligence services. ( there are actually quite a few questions here ). http://www.globalresearch.ca/disappearance-of-malaysian-airlines-flight-mh-370-the-trillion-question-to-the-u-s-and-its-intelligence-services/5375780

Thanks for this. I had a read. Mr Stone places too much of his argument on the exif format being uneditable without some form of detection. His grounds are largely that as it's machine code, it should be ungettable. Hex editors have been around for decades, so binary data is not unchangeable - you just need to know where it is. exif can be a pain in the arse; the information can be placed all over the file - and in Jim Stone's defence, very few image editors will re-save that image without doing something to the metadata, and he covers this in his edits. Can't help feeling he'd have been better off doing some analysis on first time iPhone shots ( and the respective positions of metadata ) and using those to push his case.

Fkn terrible isn't it? I've got blue jeans as well. I take it you wear bright red ones and walk about the place looking like a French exchange student and/or clown.

When you have the sandstorms, do you mince about like Tom Cruise did in Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol in googles and mask, or do you go out and face it like a man?
-
I commend Tim on not visiting many porn sites though. No man who'd ever seen extreme toying would consider an iPhone implausible.

I think Tim might have had a case if it had been an iPad.

Of course, the sub-Saharan smoke screen may be a smoke screen. Zombie apocalypse by the weekend? (Destroy the brain!)
