Eisenhower was right. This is a good read; chronology of Kennedy's time in office and his continued scraps with the military people. http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig10/marshall10.1.html Rather scary. How many lives cut short by that policy already?

You said this wasn't real life. I am interested in how that manifests itself in your case. There are certain events in your posting history I believe to be fictional, so in the recent spirit of reconciliation Another pet pap peeve People who have girlfriends a) who don't post on here b) who suddenly spring into existence when boyfriend is banned, posting several things in his defence in his own writing style c) never post on here once he comes back. This is an interesting post, hypo. Are you saying that when you come on here, you don't give an honest account of yourself? That you play a character? When you play this character, is it self-aware? -

Jos Hooiveld: "I was the fall guy" - (INTERVIEW)
pap replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
This is mere 1 out of 10 fair. If I'm from Liverpool, then Jos must be from Southampton - judging by the Dig Dig "people must be from where they currently are" universal constant you've just shared with the planet. It had never occurred to me, and though I'm half taking the p!ss now, part of it appeals to me on a philosophical level at least. You are from where you are. Deep. But yeah, I happen to agree with you. Some kind of flashback, with my name prominently displayed in username form, morphed and dissected by some over-eager SSN graphics boy, would be an ideal way to show "highly paid footballer upset by internet criticism". Make it happen, Dig Dig. -
I honestly didn't know how to process it at the time. I was a teenager, and perhaps didn't have the empathy I developed after becoming a parent. Wasn't like I didn't care; just not old enough to really deal with it. The missus had a predictably different experience. Almost everyone knew someone affected by it. The queues for those paying their respects were massive, Anfield was covered in floral tributes - you've all seen the pictures; you don't need me to tell you that. Even today, it's a massively taboo subject if you fancy being disrespectful about it, particularly now that the families have been vindicated. Some of the opinions on previous threads would not go down well spoken aloud in Liverpudlian pubs.

Be fair, lads. I had a clearout of old wires. Was able to get rid of nearly everything except for USB and HDMI. My house is tidier because of USB. -

So essentially, you dislike people for a trait you share yourself. Quite common, really -

2 out of 10 for trolling effort. It's delightfully fanciful. I love the idea that highly-paid footballers come onto this forum, read what people have to say, and then let it affect performance. Do you have a couple of transitional scenes to make this all work? e.g. a) Jos crying over his PC b) A disturbing flashback just before the game where he remembers all the bad stuff that has been said on Internet forums. c) Jos' friends and family on computers 24/7, F5'ing the screen in the hope that their special boy gets a positive mention from people who spend all their time on computers talking to strangers. A few details, and I think you have a winner on your hands. -

I'll say this for the Conservatives. Without the dystopian sh!t-holes they seem to create, or the overt favouring of the rich, music wouldn't be as interesting. -

Bit of a professional one, which I hope will be shared by anyone who is in the business of selling their expertise. The attitude from clients, that because you don't have the same overheads ( in terms of raw materials, etc ) that you will work anything extra for free. -

I'd be one of those people who had a pop at Jos earlier in the season, and more recently too. Even when we've done well, such as up at Reading, there were points in those games where we could have been down to ten men. The goal against Chelsea saw him slip on his arse, and I've seen him do that a few times where we haven't been punished. I am more than happy for Jos to do what he says in his interview, and prove us all wrong (again) but I haven't been impressed. Scared would be the more appropriate term. -

Have to agree with the use of the word "absolutely". It just means yes, and is a bigger yes than most people realise when they utter it. They just want to fill four syllables of space because they have nothing else to say. Stop it. Taxi drivers who decide that they don't fancy queuing in the lane to turn right, so stop in the middle lane with their indicators, blocking everyone behind them in their own lane, and annoying everyone who has been in the queue to turn right. I reserve my annoyance for taxi drivers because when other drivers do it, you don't know if they're doing it on purpose - they may just be unfamiliar with the layout of road. Taxi drivers should know better. That really applies to anyone who knowingly jumps a queue. -
As I just said to Chapel End Charlie, District 9 is one of my all time favourites. That trailer is very encouraging; top effects, love the cyborg thing and Elysium looks really well realised.

Have you seen District 9 yet, Charlie? That would be my favourite new sci-fi film of the last decade. Truly something different; its greatness kinda sneaks up on you.

Firefly occupies a sad little place in my heart. Joss never should have took it to Fox; might have had a chance under a more forgiving network. Anyways, it's over now - and it was over by the time I finally started watching it. Pilot is really slow. Don't get me wrong; it's good, and definitely a present to anyone re-watching it - but it's not your whiz-bang pilot people may come to expect. The network chickened out and opened with The Train, which without the context of the pilot, makes the crew look like a bunch of unlikeable yahoos ( much as Serenity manages in its first 10 minutes ). The Train really works if you've seen the pilot, so I reckon this is a case of execs ruining the show before it was born. The chase dynamic, which kicks in from the pilot, works really well - as does Mal's private rebellion against the Alliance. Up until the episode Ariel, Firefly is a charming sci-fi Western with plenty of laughs. Ariel, which is all about the crew pulling off an audacious heist deep in enemy territory - represents the starting point of a series of episodes which just get better and better. The only potential mis-step is Heart of Gold, the episode where our daring crew save a brothel of well meaning whores from a local tyrant ( that plot-line could almost have come from Knight Rider ). Serenity settles into being a great film, although it's jarring on first watch, especially the first few minutes. Dunno if it's the best sci fi film ever, but it really is a good ending to the series, leaving the crew with more than enough to do if the show ever came back. Bit spotty in parts, but a great overall experience and really well put together.

I have finally started catching up on Fringe. Mmm, Agent Dunham. Olivia is probs the naturally best looking girl on TV. Never caked in make-up, yet looks delicious most of the time. I hear the sci-fi elements are good too. I am at beginning of S2.
