So can you read directly over the cable ( i.e. do apps pick it up as a drive )? Or do you have to copy it over?

Even then, it still looks the business. I got by with a 16gb iPhone for 2 years. Had most of my favourite music / apps on it.

I look forward to your well written summary of the invisible hierarchy then, SiP. Show us how it's done!

Thanks for taking the time to give a full account of your feelings, Phil. I suspected that your outside perspective might give you a different viewpoint; it's not uncommon with people who have horizons that are broader than the UK. I've been lucky enough to meet people from all over the world. You don't have to go too far to get "different news", or know that many nationalities. Get outside of this media bubble and opinions differ wildly from the mainstream. I happen to share your view that we'll never get to the absolute truth. I always have a sneaking suspicion that some of the stunning revelations of enquiries are enough truth for heartfelt public acts of contrition, enough omission to keep any big time players out of the spotlight. The question you pose, what would happen if we were blackmailed into the Iraq War, is a massive one, and not just for the UK; the US too. It's claim to be leader of the free world would be as tenuous as any claim of a special relationship between our two countries. I have no doubt that such a situation is plausible. In some senses, it even fits the facts. A (supposedly) left of centre UK government had no business being in cahoots with Bush and his neocons, yet it concocted evidence so that we could go to war with a bit of legitimacy. That never felt like a natural fit. It kinda works if that story is true. Completely agree with you on the qualities of our leaders too; right now, I'd say that Miliband has more substance - but I'm almost at the point where if someone said "My policy is to build a tunnel to Ireland", I'd go for it. It's something tangible Our choices amount to choosing a different set of people to ride the neo-liberal machine, turn up on Question Time and twiddle with the knobs of Britain for the next five years.

So not like the treatment of Russians in the beginning of Red Dawn then?

Only thing to remember on actual Google hardware is that SD cards aren't an option.

One example of why reading Viz into adulthood is worthwhile.

Just found out that you can't put SD cards in Google hardware. Shame. Dealbreaker.

What's your take on all of it? Is there any way to find out if a D Notice exists? I know FOI is excluded when national security considerations apply, but that justification has been woefully overused. Murky stuff. I know that competing theories about popular events aren't as unwelcome in the Arab world. Does that sort of thing flow through to the ex-pat community?
-
That's a healthy enough attitude, Tokyo. Interesting you note the Queen. According to some of these reports, a D-Notice was issued to prevent certain details of Operation Ore, an investigation into child trafficking and abuse, from being published. http://www.tpuc.org/node/34 That doesn't say a lot, admittedly - but under the terms of D-Notice, records are sealed for 100 years. Now, I understand that we were on the run up to war, but I don't get why the details of a child sex investigation need to be sealed for a century. I'd like to know whether that D Notice even exists.

I think it's helpful to keep an open mind, if only because of all the times that conspiracies have been alleged and proven. Look at the recent ruling on Hillsborough, and contrast what's on the public record now with the narrative doing the rounds shortly after the disaster. I am well aware of the provenance of this article. The author identifies himself as an English nationalist, cognisant of the connotations within. So am I. So yep, all taken with a pinch of salt, but at the same time, perhaps worth keeping in mind. I know we all like to think that our government is a fluffy democracy and I'll stick up for our country; we do have a liberal tradition - that is something to shout about. But the Commons is not government, and government isn't the establishment. Pretty much all of our institutions, public and private, are rigidly hierarchical - which makes things like covering up elite paedo rings a lot easier than you'd think. For arguments sake, let's assume that the accusation is merited and we were being blackmailed. Last 12 years makes a lot more sense then, doesn't it?

Right. Let me start this post with a disclaimer. The posted link isn't necessarily my view, lives on a site that'll immediately be discounted by many, but it names names. A big one too. http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/?p=12346

Anyone got their eye on one of these? For the uninitiated, the Nexus 10 is the next big droid tablet. When released, it'll be the highest res tablet on the market. Top end 32Gb model is going to be £385. I have to say, I'm tempted.

Well, I've had the S3 for a couple of days now. I have Android versions of most of the apps I had on iOS. The one notable exception would be iTunes; I've gone for DoubleTwist as my media player. I'll also be looking at the SD card in the next couple of days and some sort of mount for the car. Now that I've given the iPhone to the youngest, I'm down on one in-car entertainment system, so I'm going to mount the phone on the dash and keep the screen on, just use the whole thing as a dashboard control. Widgets make more sense on a phone than anywhere else I've ever seen them. On desktop PCs, etc; widgets are no more than a nice bit of eyecandy shoved into the corner of a screen. On a phone, it opens up the whole "design your own experience" thing. I've got TuneIn Radio, Spotify and doubleTwist as widgets on one page, allowing me to control everything in one place. I know that's more Droid itself than the S3, but it's cool nonetheless. Apple are missing a trick by not copying them.

If I want to specifically shout someone down, how do I do it? Shouting "shout down" makes no sense. This site needs a +pos/-neg system.

This has come up time and time again and been answered, but for the benefit of the tape, many tried to come forward and came up short because of a lack of resource or pull in comparison to Savile, in a male-dominated culture. Whatever the reason their complaint might have had for not making it all the way to court, that shouldn't exclude people from coming forward now. Is there going to be an element of malicious bandwagon jumping? Probably, but I think the information from the genuine cases will help weed out the most obvious chancers. Was there an element of turning a blind eye back then? Definitely. Those people that knew without question and were able to corroborate should have done so. So far though, you seem to be working on the assumption that it was just Savile. Taking him down at the height of his fame would have been difficult enough, but it increasingly looks as if this might go further, and that kids may have being passed around rich and powerful perverts. What chance would the victims have had of getting their stories out under those circumstances?

Magic? How about admin rights? Mods: in a case like this, do you 1) just check the PM inbox of the victim? 2) check both inboxes to get both sides of the story. PS. Cheese on Toast. Can you prove your image isn't photoshopped? Magic is not an acceptable answer.
