    New Kits 2012-13

I'm not upset. If anything, I'm amused. Watching grown men lose their sh*t over a football kit is nearly as much fun as telling grown men that they are losing their sh*t over a football kit. Regarding the questions. I could re-type them, or you could scroll up. If scrolling up is too much of a pain - give us a shout - will be happy to copy and paste.

Brilliant debating skills, CB Fry. The Lounge has got nothing on you, kid You seem to have got very hot under the collar about this deli counter ASDA business. Are you saying that there is no aesthetic similarity between the two? I consider myself a bit of an expert as I:- a) Know what red and white vertical stripes look like b) Used to work on a deli counter at ASDA Yeah, I realise that the team will be wearing this strip. And? Not being funny, CB Fry - but I've asked you some pretty specific questions and instead of answering any of them, you've chosen to try and belittle me instead. Good luck with that. You certainly wouldn't be the first person to try. If you'd like to enumerate your reasons, perhaps explain which branch of football culture that I'm blind to, go for it. If you just want to have a slanging match, I can accommodate that too - and being perfectly honest, would bloody enjoy it. Your choice, mucker.

Perhaps you'd be kind enough to point out what I'm missing about football culture. According to some branches of football culture, home shirts are only worn to games by kids and nonces anyway. Some people wouldn't be seen dead at a football game wearing a replica shirt. I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me why a football shirt is upsetting you so much. What part of the football culture code does it contravene? Which version of the football culture are you subscribing to? Do us a favour and let us know. It's very difficult to see how far the club have strayed from football culture when it is so ill-defined and is sharing copy with playground put-downs. I'm certainly not someone who'll blindly support every decision the club has ever made, but moaning about this after the last couple of seasons seems bloody insane imo. It's like a kid being given the best Christmas present ever and whining that he doesn't like the colour. Bit of perspective, maybe?
  6. Practice widespread. FSA apparently tolerated it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/banksandfinance/9370668/Britains-regulators-may-have-fostered-Libor-rigging.html

    Julian Assange

Assange's lawyer has done a comment piece in the Guardian about the Swedish justice system. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/jul/02/julian-assange-not-fair-trial-sweden
  8. You've built it up to such an extent that I don't think a permaban quite covers it. I'd actually be disappointed if they weren't in the SaintsWeb Orbital Control Centre* right now trying to kill me with a laser or something. *The SaintsWeb Orbital Control Centre is only possible because of the unique way it is funded**. ** Fivers
  9. You utter bast! How could you do me up like this? Do you know what we do to grasses on our manor? etc. etc. Think scotty might be onto something. Or a mod could clear his up. Why did Dog get banned, lords on high?
  10. Don't know if this is relevant. Seems to be the same story though. http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5iPYMHrfR8G0S0qulfcQtDFWOtQeg?docId=CNG.1425a4d0f6624dbfdf6b5706826579b0.1b1
  11. I have been privileged enough to see a few people go apesh*t crazy and get banned. It's funny to see it happening. Unfortunately, the mods are bang on the stuff that actually causes the ban. Most of it is deleted straight away, which makes it a bit of a "you had to be there" moment. Dog's last post was on 22nd June. Officially, his last words were "Death to KUBA". I'm repeating this at great risk to myself. These words might be some sort of secret SaintsWeb codeword for "ban me instantly". In any event, I haven't got a Scooby what he was going on about. Can anyone offer any more texture to this tale? Mod explanation / wild gossip equally welcomed.
  12. Barclays didn't take any bail out money, but this is just the beginning. A lot of banks are going to come under scrutiny, some of them taxpayer-owned. RBS has been mentioned. It really does depend on how much is uncovered in the coming months. Funny thing is that this isn't the first time I'd heard of LIBOR. They were talking about it back when banks "weren't lending to each other". I wonder if a big part of that was down to banks knowing they were over-selling their positions. Getting to the point now where these people and this system honestly do not deserve the efforts being thrown at it. While Barclays are currently the only outfit in the frame, the investigation is still nascent. I suspect that we may see more evidence rolling in now that the story has surfaced. Can't see this being a Barclays only problem.
  13. Is past evidence even that reliable? In the past, we were a club without the sort of money we have now. If we were returning to the Prem with Rupes at the helm and nothing had changed, then there is a fair chance that 99% of people would agree with you. If we look at recent evidence, i.e. under the new ownership, all signs point to a regime that appears to be prepared to spend money to meet its aims. If we decided to extrapolate that fact instead of our near-perennial mediocrity, the prognosis looks a bit healthier. As I said before, it all depends on the owner's plans. FWIW though, I don't think we have to spend the same sort of money as City. I don't even think that City needed to spend what they did.
  14. Serious(ish) point. Neither pessimists or optimists know what is in store for the club. Tight run ship, etc. Could genuinely go either way with the theoretical cash at our disposal. At this point, the future of the club has little to do with what fans think, and everything to do with the owner's long-term plans. Seeing as no-one really knows what they are, anyone outside the club who says they know where Southampton FC will be is talking bolox.
  15. These perpetual sarcastic fantasies you construct to annoy our more optimistic fans would be mildly amusing if I hadn't read them all before. Of course, a side-effect will be that if we do qualify for CL in the near-future, you're going to have a very hard time on here
  16. Thanks, dubai_phil - feel slightly less thick now Pretty serious then. Could well see the naughty banks being made a "proper" example of.
  17. Actually not too surprised that there isn't a thread for this already, mostly because many, myself included, don't understand the full ins and outs of the scandal. My understanding is that banks (at least one) have been manipulating the LIBOR rate (the rate at which banks lend money to each other) for personal or institutional gains. Beyond that, I'm a bit hazy. I suspect most people are. One of the reasons that the banks were manipulating rates was to present their financial situations as better than they actually were. Another alleged practice is mis-reporting the LIBOR rate to loan customers to justify increases in the cost of borrowing. Like I said, I'm no expert. Was hoping that some more clued up people could weigh in on this serious business
  18. I wouldn't favour changing the name. Though I recognise the club's links with St. Mary's, it represents the whole city now. Changing the name back to Southampton St Marys ( or something similar ) seems like a bit of a backward step given the club's customer base. Definite no to any corporate name changes. Would be a first at this level of English football. We'd be a laughing stock.

    New Kits 2012-13

Hello. I don't hate the red and white stripes. I'm just not precious about them. If sir would care to look at the kit threads last season, I was saying the same thing when we were getting rid of the sash kit. This is not a new opinion. If it offends you or anyone else that our classic red and white stripes have been likened to the uniform of someone serving Cumberland Ring at ASDA, I suggest you go to the opticians and/or in extreme cases, reassess your lives It's a football kit. It shouldn't be creating any kind of uproar at all.

.....or Stoke, Sunderland, Atletico Madrid or someone working behind the deli counter at ASDA, presumably?

    Sci-fi Fans

Never let it be said that I don't listen to people on here. Started back on Farscape. Think I was two episodes into the first season ( I'd seen bits on TV in the past, but never regularly ). First episode I picked up on was actually very good. It's the one where they pick up the scientists who are secretly carrying a black hole in their shuttle. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood before, but really digging it. The ever-so-faint Aussie accents really suit the scenario, and the puppet skills means that the show can do aliens that aren't just "human being with ridges in weird places". The make-up looks awesome too. And all this with the "good stuff" still to come
  23. Your main problem here seems like the lack of discs. Try to borrow one. I've had the non-booting problem before. Ended up using the Windows disc to boot, barrelling into the command prompt and restoring the Master Boot Record ( there is a tool on the disc to allow you to do this ). Note: you almost certainly won't need to do a full restore - so you don't have to have the exact disc ( e.g. a special OEM version, etc ) - just needs to be bootable and contain the tools to restore the MBR. Failing all of that, I like the secondary drive solution if you have somewhere you can put the drive for a bit.
