BBD did reduce the opponents to 10 men in the first game of the season so there is that. Not his fault that Saints then proceeded to hand Newcastle a goal and to then fanny about with the ball in our own half for the rest of the game. 😁

That game yesterday had me thinking back to the late Leeds shot against the underside of the bar last year. Had that crossed the line I suspect Saints would have spent this season in the Championship. Whether that would have been a good or bad thing in the long run I have no idea.

Not forgetting (3) improvements in our attacking play where there's been a serious lack of nous and composure and (4) better fitness/strength that is something even RM admitted was a failure on his part. This appointment has made me feel strangely optimistic about Saints prospects.

Musk has probably given Tall Paul defensive duties this week with a instructions of marking Haaland in the middle of a back seven for Saints. I suspect Saints won't plan to venture even as far as the half way line very much in this game. Expect a near empty stadium by the end.

That was reminiscent of the early season Russball. Slow, passing backwards/sideways, hardly any attacking threat at all and easily beaten by a not very good team.
