  1. I;d be interested to know what a 1000 extra fans brings the club. It's not simple maths because there are costs/away games to deduct too. I'd suspect that you'd need c.3000 to cover SJ's salary. So stay away fans..... still think you're keeping money out of Lowe's pocket
  2. Not sure I agree with this. He clearly is a good player but for me has the tendency to score the spectacular and miss the simple.
  3. What you say may well be the truth. But if you get don't rid of our highest earners and replace them with players who will be paid less, then expect 1-Administration, 2-A points deduction, 3-A firesale, 4-Lower league football. Not an easy decision is it?
  4. Very naive if you think we could lose the players we had to and still achieve top half. Pearson / JP / Ferguson would make no difference, it was always going to be bottom half.
  5. I'm not questioning your integrity, but what are the facts that you refer to?
  6. Jesus you're a negative ****er!
  7. When exactly do managers get to do this though? The best they can hope for is to catch a midweek game now and again and, based on the fact we pay peanuts, I doubt he's got Sky or Setanta! So the manager HAS to rely on scouts to spot talent. Good managers will develop a team they trust around them and themselves identify weaknesses in their current team to be patched by new recruits spotted by their scouts. I agree though it should always be their final say. Scheiderlin and Holmes are two reasons why I think it's working however it is set up.
  8. No I don't, but neither are my expectations unrealistic as yours appear to be. I expected us to struggle this year and we are struggling. Excuse me for not giving up in October though. The accounts said we were losing money like water and had to chop the wage bill. That leaves you a choice between 2 unproven managers (one of whom has some experience working on a tight budget with youth players, the other who has had a handful of games in charge as a caretaker but little experience of youth). A choice had to be made and Lowe had to make a decision. In your world "tested" players come to play on youth player wages, but it is just a dream matey. If we still had the players that NP had last season we'd be in administration by now. Personally I think Schiederlin and Holmes (and Ryan Smith) seem like good players but if you'd rather have some of the journeymen who got us into the position of needing Leicester not to score to stay up then feel free.
  9. If Saints win will you lot shut the **** up for a week? If so, COYR! We have a team full of youth and no money to change that situation. The only thing we have is sweat, hope and enthusiasm - sometimes that is enough, sometimes it isn't. One thing is for certain though, if you go thinking you are going to lose, you will. Get busy living or get busy dying (or **** off and support Pompey).
  10. Sad isn't it really. No one has mentioned the opposition. That's the problem with fan line ups, they are based on favorites, not on the players they seek to counteract. If Morgan/Euell weren't injured I'd play one of them in CM instead of Cork and play Cork at right back. I'd stick with Wotten at CB to counteract Beattie's strength and Lancashire to counteract Sharp's pace. As it is I think he'll stay broadly as is (options are limited) but I agree that RB is a problem for us defensively.
  11. And what, pray tell will Crouch do differently? Sack JP and get in a new manager (with what money?), buy new players (even though the transfer window is shut) or magically get our inexperienced players to defend corners. The alternative argument is a good one, but only because we've been there before and jumped on the first horse that came along (and that took us to the brink of administration). I must say though that it is a pity if the experiment fails. We've played some great football this year, often without the rewards. Naive defending and a smidgen of bad luck will derail what could be a great team.
  12. It would obviously have been far better. By the way, can you tell me the lottery numbers next week?
  13. So have you actually heard it, or have you heard about it. TBH, if you have only heard about it, then it really is no better than many of the takeover rumours to which we have been treated on this site.
  14. So still no evidence of this then. Does it exist or is it 'idle gossip'?
  15. I'm sure it would, but I doubt it will make any difference to the result....
  16. where is it then? have you heard it? or have you heard someone say his brother's best mate heard it?
  17. I think we are the architects of our own demise when trying to defend setplays. I know we are ropey at the back, but why pull everyone behind the ball? Surely far better to leave a couple of players upfield, forcing the opposition to defend against a possible breakaway rather than allowing them all to attack the corner / cross. I don't actually think the problem is with the players (granted we could always have better defenders), more with people not knowing their roles in defending a corner. It is a pity, the team can play well and lose because of silly mistakes.
  18. I'm sorry to **** on your Lowe burning bonfire but I have it on excellent authority that Lowe has very little involvement with the footballing side of the business and SCW (and his methods) have no influence over the way we are training. Source... let's just say I don't visit Amsterdam just for the prostitutes.
  19. "I can't believe JP let the players go on holiday" "Why didn't JP let the players go on holiday in the two week break" Seeing as three of our starting eleven were with the under 21's the concept of training throughout the break would seem to be a moot one anyway. .... but don't let that stop you getting your knickers in a twist.
  20. Mistaken and ill informed by this forum's predecessor, for that is where I picked up that tidbit - no doubt suffixed with FACT for extra impact. ... So that MUST make it true! Who were the players that wielded the axe then? ps. I agree with the comment regarding the Saintettes, and also when the mascots stopped hurdling the advertising hoardings. Key points in our history.
  21. The Sturrock incident is an interesting one and I agree that, with the non-reappointment of Hoddle, it led to our demise. That said what would you have done with the Sturrock situation? We didn't want to lose Beattie and he was one of the instigators I understand. If it had just been Dodd I think Lowe would have told him to jog on, but when your fans favorite, top scoring, multi million pound asset kicks up a stink, it is a difficult call. We could easily be having the "why did Lowe let Beattie leave over Sturrock" discussion instead! Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't I'm afraid.
  22. Far more incidents than those you list. Add Kelvin, Crouch, Bennett, Fuller and Wright (again and again). It's not necessarily the booing, just the general negativity when a pass is mislaid or the wrong decision made. If people think the players don't pick up on it they are wrong. If it makes them nervous, they'll take less risks and end up not being creative enough to win games. Kelvin Davis is an object lesson in how having confidence can improve your performance.
  23. Firstly it's 'schexy futball", please get it right Secondly, my expectations for this season were (and are) bottom half. To expect any more with our current finances is not realistic in my opinion (although I do admit that based on some of our performances (Brum and Derby) it was easy to get carried away). I didn't miss your point, in fact I agree with it. My original point was not that fans shouldn't call for a manager (or a player for that matter) to leave, just that they shouldn't do so after an unreasonable time or when circumstances are not conducive to 'walk this league' results. i.e. it is more acceptable to criticise Burley for spunking a load of cash, than Portvliet who only has the youth players to rely on. Anyway I have hope for a JP future, but IMHO this year has never been anything more than an exercise in survival.
  24. Out of the games I have seen I am liking the football (with exception of Blackpool), if not the results. In most games we have had patches of excellent play, if we can cut out the silly errors then results should improve. Hmmm, not sure I have. It would be the case if the statistic being used was how many poor managers has RL appointed, but it isn't, it is 10 managers in 10 years. On your criteria I'd argue: 3 bad (Gray / Wigley / Sturrock (based on RL's decision, not performance) 1 medium, but overstayed welcome (Burley) 1 medium, but events conspired (Jones) 2 good (Strachan / Hoddle) 1 good, but with bad results (Redknapp (but you can't fault the logic)) 1 irrelevant (Souness) (and the tenth is just a caretaker, so doesn't count). So 3 out of nine isn't too bad.
