The Don's in a pickle. We all know that he's a mean machine (being polite). He's pretty much got his own way on most things for the past couple of years, not many mistakes and he's been out of the limelight since everyone had simply blanked us from their memories. Now we are back, we're in the media spotlight and every twitch is analysed to death by the global media looking to fill PL pages. With Jamal and a couple of others it was all well and good to simply walk away. This time? Well, things are a little different. His "Recruitment Team" have come up with a potential gem. He's suddenly found us trending world wide in social media (bet Sibley's worn out cutting & pasting every tweet for his media scrap-book!) So now he has to decide. He obviously planned staged payments (to tie in with income from PL & TV) but now he is faced with having to dip into real cash in a real bank. Does he do this? Does he show the world we are back and mean business on the pitch by "giving in"? Or does he stay true to type and walk away because he didn't win. Business Brain vs Ego vs Marketing. Will be an interesting watch IMHO he'll pay the cash and we may have to wait for Phillips or Buttner (as long as we DON'T have to wait for a CB)

In response to the PES rant. REAL Pompey fans gave up going years ago. REAL Pompey fans gave up trying to defend or even justify the disgrace of their club years ago. Simply because, while they understand "it is not their fault", they are STILL embarrassed about what happened, they are STILL embarrassed about the Cup Run, but MOST of all, they are STILL embarrassed about being made to look like fools for allowing themselves to be conned into believing it was all real. They don't support the PST bid because they know many of those involved and they know that even though it is the ONLY solution at the moment, it is the WRONG solution. As has also been mentioned in a lot of the more serious Twitter comments, the deal with Bologna is staged payments including a sell on clause. Saints will earn 60mil over the course of this season from the PL with TV & advertising revenues. We also have sold approaching 23,000 ST's (I think) at an average of around 400 quid a pop. THAT cash is already in the bank. So, you take regular TV payment income and you take some of the up front cash from ST sales then as I have posted before, the maths does add up. The CRUCIAL questions have to be "What is the fall-back plan IF we get relegated?" One thing we have seen is that The Don doesn't faff around in negotiations so pretty sure the new contracts will all have relegation clauses. The signings we have made so far do NOT need us to take out bank loans. As we have seen from all the FCR data, even the skates weren't stupid enough to pay for their signings in cash up front. JRod, Clyne & Ramirez 21 mil we have already got 9mil cash in the bank account and have no idea what the system is for money coming in from ALL the TV rights (not just Sky but the International ones as well)

Nothing has changed at all. The Points Penalty ONLY applies when they STOP being in Admin. ie when someone new owns them

Actually I don't blame Howard at all. He is out of work. All he has done is to guarantee a minimum of one month's salary (yeah right) It also means that he will get some competitive football and can still find a proper club at ANY time as he is NOT on a contract. In a global recession like we have and for a player towards the end of his career earnings wise, personal survival comes first. On top of that, we should congratulate him for draining their cash - better to be paying him than saving it for the PST bid

The maths works. We get 60mil in PL money even IF we only stay up for one year, so even with the salaries for the new signings and pay rises for the lads who got us up it is financially sound. Should we get relegated, then obviously there are the Parachute Payments, but IF he is even partly successful we would get a big lump of our money back if we had to sell him. The PLAN of buying younger players who can grow with us means they SHOULD add value, as opposed to buying 30+ year old PL experienced "has beens" It's not a surprise to me we are paying this amount for a player and I still expect more to come, I'd guess the budget at something between 25/30mil for summer spends I know very few on here have actually believed a word that NA or the Don have said about "Having a Plan" but you only have to read that Telegraph article again today. It doesn't matter two hoots whether WE believe it, the club (& those who hold the financial strings) obviously believe it and sure as hell seem able to get that Vision across to players. Could still all go Pete Tong, and like I said on page 1 of this thread it's a stupid idea. But only to us & the rest of the football world, not to the club. (Mind you still don't believe NA's target of 12 points from 1st (yeah OK) FOUR games!)
