  1. Wednesdays are better than Tuesdays?
  2. Fire at will, no notice no reason is good too. Works wonders for civil society in the US.
  3. For 4 months - and then 3 full months off. Not quite the same.
  4. Lers go back to 6.5 days pw with a full day off once a month. Market forces innit.
  5. Its looking that way, especially when you compare posters positions with the supposed placing of the political parties. All the major parties are more right than all the saintsweb posters. Thats a bit hard to believe.
  6. You're the Shirley Williams of Saintweb!
  7. Economic Left/Right: -5.75 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.21 Surprises me a bit
  8. This. Quote about the Sun from that BBC story - " Its London-based version urged readers to back the Conservatives and "stop the SNP running the country". By contrast, the Scottish Sun said the Tories did not understand Scotland and praised SNP leader, Nicola Sturgeon, as "a phenomenon who inspires people".
  9. Just as no MP agrees with every policy of their party. Its all about finding best fit - and the party you vote for might change in general, council and Euro elections, or according to the candidate. Opting out simply hands the opportunity to someone else to choose for you.
  10. And thats the other thing you do - deny you ever said anything of the sort. When someone posts up the proof you claim the post meant something else entirely.
  11. Absolutely. Its far more interesting to debate the individual policies than the 'my side good your side bad' mantra played on a loop.
  12. Its pretty much all you do. The crash was nothing to do with the global crisis it was all Labour's fault and Brown in particular. The Tories have been stellar in retrieving the situation, nothing to do with the international recovery. If your posts were more measured and thoughtful they'd be more interesting.
  13. No the guy is a knob imo. The press can't just write stuff based on what they feel or have picked up over the previous 6 months as Pearson says they should. They need him to answer questions and give quotes so the story is balanced and substantiated, otherwise they would accused of making it all up.
  14. Good song. Good interview! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-32521666
  15. Jeez Trousers, talk about unequal contests. That article was written by someone who graduated in 2013 and whose prior career extends mainly to six months at Conservative Central office. Krugman is one of the most eminent economists in the world. I'd value his opinion (or the milkman's) over Memon http://www.cps.org.uk/about/staff/adam%20-memon/
  16. I've never really 'got' Los Angeles despite going out with a native and visiting a lot. There are other move 'liveable' places in California imo. That said Griffiths park is very good as is the Getty Center. If you are there for the 626 night market thats a great laid back night as are the free beach concerts at Santa Monica Pier . Santa Monica is one of the best places to stay, its much more walkable than LA itself - good shopping, beach, hotels and restaurants. The Oceana hotel is good. Sunset Strip is tacky imo despite a TS hooker getting in my car one night - that said you have to visit it. Santa Catalina Island is a short trip away, but maybe save that for a second visit. Horse racing at Santa Anita is fun as is the Six Flags theme park if you're into that. http://www.626nightmarket.com/home http://santamonicapier.org/twilightconcerts/ http://www.santaanita.com/ http://www.hoteloceanasantamonica.com/
  17. Nothing wrong with patronising Brand. He doles it out frequently enough.
  18. This is the best part imo. "I understand your ache for the luminous, for a connection beyond yourself. Russell, we all feel like that. Some find it in music or literature, some in the wonders of science and others in religion. But it isn’t available any more in revolution. We tried that again and again, and we know that it ends in death camps, gulags, repression and murder".
  19. Good man! Ive never understood why people only want to read whatever reinforces their current views. Its good to challenge why you believe what you do. For sure those 10m followers are a disparate bunch. Twitter is an odd medium - Ive got 56 followers and have never ever tweeted.
  20. I doubt that Brand is the main influence in anyones life. Hes just one of many voices. Of course a proportion of those thinking about not bothering to vote are persuadable.
  21. You're more left wing than me! I'd keep it at 40% but equalise the relief on pension contributions so its the same for everybody - say around 30%.
  22. He only reads the headlines
  23. A lot of people put down the answers they think friends / society / their little moral voice at the back of their head expects them to say - even when alone with a quiz and no-one will ever know what you said. I'm not accusing you, many people do it. Good psychology tests incorporate lie tests (eg "have you ever stolen anything, even a pin or button?"). Some people claim to have never stolen anything - and you can safely disregard their answers.
  24. Are you really claiming that all those 10 million people thinking about not voting are not registered anyway? If so that is epicly dumb. The most apathetic age group are 18-24, of whom a large number will be registered at their parents address even if they did nothing about it themselves. I have no idea how many Brand has influenced but if its anywhere near 10m, 1m or 100,000 its significant and worth targetting. As Jonnyboy says it could well swing a few marginals and in a neck and neck race thats vital.
  25. Carmel is well worth a stop, its next to Monterey and near wine country. If you are even a little bit interested in golf its woirth playing the Pebble Beach course which is one of the most famous and beautiful courses in the US. There are some great B&Bs (nothing like English ones!) in Carmel. Check them out on tripadvisor. The Tally Ho Inn is good too.
