I've often wondered if it was van de Waals that convinced Lowe to take on Poortvliet. Someone must have convinced Lowe to go for a 'Dutch Double Act' when Lowe seemed happy (3 years ago) to install a lone Dutchman in Wotte. Not forgetting that it was van de Waals who was spotted at Southampton Airport with both men in March last year. Who convinced Lowe to bring in Poortvliet AND Wotte and what did they have to gain, if anything, from such persuasion? My hunch could be completely wide of the mark of course.....

Any chance someone could post these infamous Runnymede minutes on here? I am, afterall, the only person in the known Universe who hasn't seen them. Thanks awfully.

Surely it's possible for someone to feel 'physically intimidated' even if the intimidatee had no intention whatsoever to be actually physical? For example, when I walk down my local high street at 11:00pm on a Friday night I sometimes feel 'physically intimidated' by those around me. Doesn't necessarily mean someone is about to lamp me. Physical intimidation is simply a fear of being harmed rather than actually being harmed. This can be either a rational or irrational fear but it is still a valid feeling to have, regardless of any intent on the part of the intimidatee.

If Wotte had piped up 1/2/3/4/5/6 months ago that the 'experiment' wouldn't work and/or wasn't working then he wouldn't be in the position today of needing to help rescue our season. The club made it quite clear from the outset that he and Poortvliet were a close-knit management team. "If Wotte keeps us up...." Talk about self-fulfilling logic!

Well, it had nothing to do with that for the first 6 months of the season...

Fair point, although I think an alternative valid observation would be that if the majority of people on here were clambering for further clarification then the original thread, where it was originally raised & discussed, would still be 'hot'. The fact that it's naturally faded away would tend to suggest that most people were happy to let it lie?

I wasn't making a judgement one way or t'other, just asking. Bit of a misdemeanor on here I know... I still stand by the logic that a given team can be made to perform badly by the opposition or can perform badly regardless of the performance of the opposition. I was "simply" referring to the post-match comments from the Preston manager who said that his team effectively weren't trying in the first half, i.e. they weren't playing with anywhere near the 'form' that had taken them to 4th place. There is a difference between a team playing poorly because the opposition makes them poor and a side playing poorly because they are having an off-day. So, my 'simple' observational query was...did we stifle Preston or did they stifle themselves?
