Has Liverpool taken over Pompey as figures of hatred for you?

Is Wimmer still for sale. He wants regular first team games. I know Spurs were holding out for about £15m, but I'm sure we could do a deal.

I see we are about to lose out on a possible replacement for him. http://sportwitness.co.uk/southampton-fail-stump-personal-ask-mauricio-pellegrino-strange-situation/

question.. how safe is Les Reed's position after VvD, his agent, and LFC showed up his naivety in the transfer merry go round? Afterall not the first time he has proved to be wanting in that department! Never thought I'd miss Nicola's way of doing business:?

Owner having second thoughts about selling club?
patred44 replied to terrasaint's topic in The Saints
you can see the headlines........irony, oh irony.....the selling club is not for sale -
would be difficult... We have more evidence it appears and we used that card to ward them off. Now, we cannot use that evidence. We too could find ourselves in trouble for withholding evidence the FA required. Reed and co played our hand wrong despite us having all the aces. Stand by for the clubs PR machine to kick into gear to placate us

it will be interesting to how long Van Dijk can go along with this 'injury'. Will he start contact training in time to play any pre season friendlies ?? By all accounts, he should have been fit to have played the last two games of last season. So this 'work to rule' seems to have been a plan for some time.

It was a rat faced git injury, inflicted by some tosser who I hope gets one that keeps him out just as long and impacts on his club as much as it did ours. (don't know the latin term) .

Essential. In fact, IMO we have passed that cut-off point. The speed we work at, getting replacements is painfully slow. 6 months between Pelle, and his replacement, Gabbiadini. And still waiting for Jose Fonte's replacement unless you consider it to be the Polish lad.

Other (non English) teams that are similar to Saints 'way' ?
patred44 replied to eddie's topic in The Saints
I have seen 4 periods of progress from the Saints in the 70 years I have been supporting them. The first 2 were under the guidance of Ted Bates and he based this growth on a few youngsters and some experienced journeymen. Another period of success was McMenemy's time, based on good experienced players extending their careers, and using us as their last port of call before hanging up their boots. None of those periods lasted too long, but comparing them to a 3rd Division football club, which we were when I first supported them, it was a success! But none of those were long lasting as such, and we were never considered or perceived as a big club. Now, this Liebherr 'successful' period is different..for a start, the club was no longer 'run' by the manager. The overriding progress was built on our academy, and younger recruits. We bought players with a resale value in mind, but that wasn't the be be-all, there were a few experienced players helping the cause. At first it got us promoted and into the PL, and gradually we progressed and our perception as a top team gained ground under the dictatorship of Cortese. Since Reed has taken over from Cortese we have been selling our most valuable players every summer, and replacing them (if at all) with cheaper models. How long this can be sustainable is open to question, already our progress has slowed. Maybe we can survive in the PL, maybe not? Maybe like the other 'successful times' we will go backwards. It remains to be seen if this model works before it can be claimed to be a successful way of running a club of our size and getting us into the 'big boys club' -
We were rumored to be interested about a month ago but were turned down flat. Arsene Wenger and Florentina has tried to sign him in the last 2 weeks according to Metro. Interestingly the French press are accussing 'clubs', not a club, of tapping him up. So, we could be one of those accussed. Would be embarrassing in the current circumstances with our Liverpool shenanigans if we were. "The moves currently being made relating to our player are strictly illegal and sanctionable by FIFA regulations relating to the transfer of players (article 18)… We will take the necessary measures against anyone who goes against these regulations.”

fluke or not....it'll do for me

always tried his best I thought..kept Cedric on his toes, and gave us the memory of that wonder goal. Best of luck, and thank you

If that's what is going to happen, we will have to own up SOON, and take actions SOON. We will need time to sign a reasonable, good replacement, not just an up and coming youngsters. Last seasons standins will not be good enough for a whole season. We were promised a replacement for Fonte, that has not happened. We cannot keep selling our best players without it effecting performances on the pitch. And if we fold on the VvD transfer, what happens with Ryan Bertrand, and Cedric? We can hardly make a stand with them after rolling over for VvD. And, how will Pelligrino take it? Not too well I imagine!! As for the clubs image, we will look silly and shallow if we do a U turn And, could we ever trust Les Reed & co. again? What makes our club think we can be treated like that? Kept in the dark, virtually lied to as to our intentions in this summers window. STH's may as well address their renewal payments directly to Anfield Liverpool ! Swap our red white scarves for the red and white ones of Liverpool, worship Stevie Gerrard.....makes me want to spit NO...Les Reed will have to tough it it out now, or it could led to his departure.

I cannot see Liverpool actually putting in an official offer for him. How can they after that public apology and promise to back off VvD? As others on here have said the FA would come down on them. NO..they'll stick to this 'slow media torture' they are employing to make our club cave in and offer him to them. To this end they are calling up all their ex-players to assist them, maybe even VvD to scare off other rival bids by intimating he will go nowhere else but Liverpool. Liverpool are as slippery as a bunch of eels, and underhanded. Having already spoken to Liverpool, we don't know how much Van Dijk, and his agent, has been offered as a package deal to make sure he goes to Anfield ? It could well compensate for getting a lower fee percentage, or even losing his loyalty bonus if he had to request a transfer.

However this turns out, we (the club) should ask the FA to look at the whole matter, and supply them with evidence. It's obvious that Liverpool and their media chums are intent on 'torturing' us into submitting to their will. This is despite their public apology and promise to cease their chase for VvD. The campaign to get our captain has been relentless. It could have soured the relationship, caused mistrust between player/fans/ club for a long time, and has completly disrupted the whole of our pre season preperations. Bigger clubs should not be able to bully smaller clubs or show them the disrespect we have had to endure from them. VvD (maybe), and his agent, in particular, have also treated the club and us fans abysmally, signing a contract must mean something, and they have completley disregarded this. FA Rules have been completely ignored. All clubs should adhere to those rules or there will be carnage every transfer window and contracts could be used in the player's toilets instead of toilet rolls for all the worth they are. If the FA are to be taken seriously, new, stricter, and clearer rules should be bought in to make sure this cannot occur again. With meaningfull sanctions that will deter this type of behaviour.

Shroppie sussed that out some time ago. As for your grumpy way of questioning me about my spelling, that depends on how long he is here as to whether I learn to spell it as Van Dijk in time (at least you knew who we were talking about). You have a rather a snappy disposition I notice in your replies to me. Cheer up, I have always found it better to be polite to people.

yeah, didn't think about that.... senior moment

I'm getting a little worried now... W were told that Van Djke was fit and in full training, but not CONTACT TRAINING...that's why he didn't play yesterday... SO WHO IS THIS PLAYING IN A FULL CONTACT PRACTICE GAME ??? https://s3-sfc.thirdlight.com/file/43200963105/width=1050/height=550/fit=scale
