Maybe he is not relishing the thought of a Stephens/Yoshida partnership? IMO The ideal outcome would be for us to keep him here until at least January. Buy someone like Wimmer to partner him. (Never know if we look likely to finish high in the league that may encourage him to stay until next summer ) Especially if Liverpool fail to qualify for the CL. What we can't do is to let him and Liverpool win this standoff, otherwise we will be saying to all our players, and rival clubs, it's open season for any of our squad. I cannot for the life of me understand why the FA have let this rattle on for so long... That LFC are at the very centre of this media WAR against our club, is in no doubt. They parade any of their ex-players (those that are still alive that is) out to do a hatchet job on us in their local rags. All of them do work for Liverpool FC via their TV station, and the likes of Gerrard are actually paid employees of that club. It's a classic case of one of the perceived top teams imposing their will over a perceived smaller club. Why we should have our entire preseason disrupted because we won't roll over and give in to their arrogance. Are we not allowed to say no, or something? And just how blatant do they have to be in ignoring FA warnings before the FA act? Are we not allowed to have better players than them? God knows they have plundered us enough over the last 3 seasons.

The FA simply have to get involved now. The arrogance of Liverpool FC blatantly ignoring all acceptable behaviour is a challenge to FA rulings. Liverpool's bullying tactics cannot be allowed to win out in this for the sake of all 'smaller' clubs. They have absolutely wrecked our preseason preparations, destroyed the relationship between our captain with the club and the fans. I think we all have doubts in our minds ATM. No positive news on VvD staying yet, no structured preseason friendlies. We have seen 2 of the first team gone, and as of yet we have only seen a young CB come in, and we all saw his nightmare game for Poland, which got the alarm bells ringing. There are also doubts whether we have seen the last of Cedric, Bertrand, and Tadic. To top all that, there are rumours that Gabbiadini is finding it difficult to settle in the UK. Then we have the takeover situation casting doubts in our minds, and that is scary at any time. So the sooner we see some positive news from the club the better for me..we could all do with a little calmness and stabilty. Some excitement aswell, after a season of injuries, dissappointment and sheer boredom in the end.

Staying another season is the best we can expect... But I am not relying on a 'smile and a nod' from the player. I am waiting for his agent to confirm his client is staying. This whole situation has been agent driven, and I cannot see this club wanting to even see his agent around the place after this disruption.

It was a huge mistake....the bit about not signing another forward in summer. Not having a replacement for Pelle dictated the shape we played, and not having a targetman we had no out ball..which led to boring tippy tappy poscession footbal we played in our build up. Someone like Carrol would have fitted into our side well. And of course chasing a forward in the winter window and a decent centre back proved too much for our recruitment team. We seem to be only capable of concentrating on one transfer target at a time for some reason.
