Where has Derry suggested no midfield? He has put forward some suggestions on what he thinks will work. One up front is working so well isn't it! Shocking as it may seem under Koeman we never played much through midfield either. Two mobile strikers can work turning the defence round it also gives midfield the chance to pick 2 out rather than a heavily marked one but hey we are scoring for fun in every game why change it. Why would it? Look at the difference Long made, if we had Gabbi as well turning them Working as a pair rather than the ball just coming back as Gabbi on his own is never going to work at home. Of course Davis and JWP dont work Lemina should have started fit enough for the bench but cant see how Long and Gabbi could have been any worse than the first half. I always thought Erwin was the brains behind Ronald - Kluitenberg certainly had them fitter than appears we have now. I didn't moan about Austin tracking back...what was abysmal was seeing him chase a full back when he was played wide left he was running in treacle! I listened to Whispering Dave on Solent going home and he said exactly your last bit - we have no identity, don't press, no direction, slow build up - weak midfield. Puel has gone get over it he aint coming back - had he done what his bosses wanted maybe would still be here but we are stuck with Pellegrino lets just hope he can turn this around - worried from what I have seen so far. On paper our defence and midfield with Lemina/Romeu is decent - its going forward again we need to be constructive and radical like playing 2 up.

I agree that's what worries me he is a rabbit in the headlights, substitution by numbers and making the same mistakes Puel made at home. Claude had some very good away results but struggled tactically at home he also had VVD and Fonte up until Christmas - Pellegrino is making the same horrific mistakes ...why....with Black/Watson still on the payroll to provide continuity they can tell him what nearly every Saints fan knows - Davis and JWP cannot play in the same midfield and certainly JWP is not a number 10 did we not learn that in pre-season friendlies when he was a fish out of water. No matter how much LD want his love god back...Puel went because he refused what his bosses wanted - if the board sacked him because of the fans how come we still have 6ft 7 concrete boots, Tadic, Boufal and JWP anywhere near the first team...havent signed Aguero, Messi or Berahino? Pellegrino needs to find the team an identity and playing style that works...when he cant even make a substitution that is screaming out not sure he can unless he transforms from that crouched sad figure we saw on Saturday to Mourinho. McCarthy in goal, Lemina has to play , Long had his best spell up through middle - Gabbi has to have some support put Gabbi next to Long left side of a front 2 we just may even have 2 players for the midfield to pass to who can move. Try it that failing formation doesn't work...why can't they see that?

Just remind me where Puel is now PSG? Barca? Bayern? Puel refused to do as he was asked by his bosses but that again is the fans fault I suppose? He could still be here but refused to change not that should be a shock given he couldn't change tactics or get us a goal in 6 home games. You ignored the fact none clamoured for Pellegrino just keep gloating and smug because we are doing badly personally want us to do well but it seems you rather be stuck on your Puel love in. No they were correct...what we got was someone scared to change things sticking to failing tactics. Not the fans fault asking for a change and better its the people replacing good for cheap again. Yep 100% agree but we can't do that as no bugger would want them. The academy is the same in every age group small technical very good battered most weeks against physical sides. Same sh1t different manager playing sh1t formation with players not good enough. Did Pellegrino actually believe Davis and JWP were going to magically come up with a performance ? Wtf did Tadic for JWP achieve replacing a slow weak non goal scorer for another who has done nothing for months. The formation doesnt work the manager knows it but scared to change and substitution by numbers. FFS at least try Long and Gabbi give midfield something to aim at.
