CHARLIE DIMMOCK One of Britain’s most recognisable faces FACES? Tits maybe, face, no.

Ah, ok I read the title and thought it was a general question. Against Spurs? Gazza. he has proven himself enough until Boruc can get his fitness back. I was surprised at what a lump he was at WHam!

I was just making light. If I were being the police I would have locked you in a cell for three days and shown you my handcuff collection.......and if you were lucky, my foreskin collection.

While I agree with your post, not coming on the forum is just cheating! I think most people probably understand the mass hysteria that occurs when faced with things like a sudden collapse such as we had on Saturday. There are a few here that will spout the same old bullcrap day in, day out, but most of us will have our little panic on here then settle down after a while and put their sensible head on after a day or two. Being an ex-pat, coming here on match day makes me closer to the situation. More like being at the match. Coming here when the dust has settled would be like not watching the game, and catching the highlights on MOTD. I come here to share the bedwetting OR the celebrations (However rare lately) During the week, I visit less often. In short, being calm is for midweek. Matchday is for screaming, yelling, and staining underwear. It's football, not scrabble.

So, I'm having a gander at POL, which thread do I look at first for maximum guffaws and trouser staining?

If I saw two or more big clubs in the Prem become successfully fan owned, then I might consider it a good option. Do I wish we were going fan owned in the way that the skates are? I just laffed so hard I threw up in my undies.

Crossbows never caught on in England because they were unsporting and un-English. I think it's time we started using crossbows.

I had not thought of doing this!!! Maybe I will go with "Free candy for kids" Edit: Oh wait, it's nearly Halloween here.....Maybe I should go with "F*ck off you little bastards!"

Yep!! Prohibition was especially interesting. I enjoyed that. Overall though, PBS is nowhere near comparable to the BBC in quality or quantity. That does not make PBS bad, just not comparable. I like PBS, and I'm glad it's there. It is an ideal antidote to televisual travesties like "America, the story of us" or whatever it was called.

I was so busy with my own post that I never read Pap's reply properly......He sums things up very well in my opinion. The BBC is our major source of national pride these days whether we realise it or not. It's not just about Eastenders or the Antiques Roadshow. The BBC is a worldwide treasure respected by all.

I asked for that thread to be put behind the Google wall as I would be quoting posts, but they reasonably simply deleted the thread instead to keep the site on topic, so there will be no further posts. Anyway, I knew how that thread would go when I posted it as the BBC really IS held in that much regard here, and it was enough to prove my point, I hope. I would have been extremely surprised if there had been a single negative response. Edit: I should add that some of those people that posted in that thread have absolutely NO problem in being somewhat "Honest" about their opinion on British people, so taking that into consideration, the BBC is doing us a service in terms of international relations and image.

The American view on a non-political forum after posting an unbiased request. I have not omitted or altered any posts: Me: I'm currently in a heated discussion on a UK thread about the BBC. Anyone care to share your opinions about them here? I'm looking for any quote, positive or negative. I simply realised that this is a big subject and would like some opinions other than me or my own or my friends. I want an American perspective. I don't want extremely specific aspects of the BBC, just general opinions. Thanks. Others: 1) I like how they cover stories in a unique way that many (most, all?) of the big American media corps (Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS) don't. Unlike Fox and NPR, they don't (to me at least) have an obvious liberal or conservative spin. And, I like their accents. 2)For political news I turn to them. Simply because they are going to be as close to impartial as you can get. Lately I have been turning to them for international news also because again they are much more impartial. Well put together and produced. 3)I used to read most of my news from the BBC. As far as the network goes, I just recently started checking out some of their shows. BBC America has an awesome show on right now, Copper. It's about a detective in NYC in the 1860's after the Civil War riots. 4)When it comes to stories that are important to the USA, BBC gets closer to true reporting than the American sources which will show a clearer bias. However, that doesn't mean they are without bias. If you want a really different perspective, it's best to read a newspaper in another language. As for their entertainment shows, American TV can't hold a candle to them. American TV is just a bunch of copycat fools compared to some of the original programming on the BBC. I LOVED watching Top Gear... the British one. 5)Nothing but love for the BBC. I wish we had an equivalent, although it would certainly never have the global appeal of BBC, which is more ubiquitous than you can imagine. My favorite part of the local NPR affiliate is the BBC world service, which begins around 9pm locally. I like NPR, but it lacks the hard news that I love from BBC.

It's an opinion dumbass. I thought that would be obvious even if I didn't add "IMO" EDIT: Please feel free to argue any of my points without being silly.

Reality shows started in the US with COPS during a writer's strike......Kind of explains it all.

TV programming aside, the BBC, with it's worldwide news services and the respect that it garners the nation is one of the reasons that the UK is just about managing to hang on to any semblance of relevance on the world stage. If you want the UK to sink further into the abyss, then carry on, I suppose!

So many shows get remade for their prospective companies these days that it's a non issue. The BBC must be making tons out of American versions of UK shows and vice versa Interesting to note though just how many "American" classics as they are viewed here were originally BBC shows.

Ah, OK, I guess that was a slip up. The tide is still firmly with the BBC in quality though. I stand by everything I've said.

Not so much compromised as stripped down to it's little pink panties, bent over the knee of corporate interests and spanked lightly but playfully with a feather duster. Then raped mercilessly by a zombie and left to die behind a dumpster.
