And in this scenario, the Sun is the BBC and The Guardian is ITV!!?? Seriously, be careful what you wish for.
-
Now, when I was in England, I DID have a problem with the BBC advertising themselves on my money. That I will agree with.

Oh yes.... I'm LOVING Boardwalk Empire!.............But again with the cash to see that stuff! Oy Veh! I'm becoming Jewish!

Maybe it would be helpful for people to list their favourite American TV shows and we can see how it would stack up cost-wise? Does anyone seriously think that they do the good stuff here without draining your bank account?
-
I've only watched the first episode of Homeland, I may or may not watch the second. I know how American shows can die slowly yet keep hanging on. I'm also watching Copper on BBC America. I'm enjoying that pretty well, and I know it will have a limited life and not go on forever and will have an ending. BTW Homeland is not a good comparison, you have to subscribe to HBO or whichever company it is on to see it....Just like BBC, but more expensive when taking into account the amount of content with each package. If you only watch terrestrial TV you will die of boredom. Yes, those American shows some of you like so much actually cost a LOT of money overall if you are going to see them all on their various subscriber only channels. You would die of boredom watching terrestrial TV here.

OK, lets look at another British institution. Say, for the sake of argument, Britain had to rely on one institution to define their nationality. Britain had to lose either the BBC or the Royal family.........I'd be at Buck House with an axe on day one.

Downton Abbey is immensely popular here, Dr Who is absolutely storming. PBS (American public broadcasting) would sink without trace if they dropped their line up of quality BBC shows. Their OWN public broadcasting relies on the BBC to shore them up.
-
"Thinking Americans" (Not entirely an oxymoron) balance their news intake by backing up what they see on American TV by watching or listening to the BBC. Whatever political biases the staff at the BBC have does not filter through to the actual programming to any noticeable degree in comparison to ANY OTHER news source bar none.

We have proven your point that the BBC is a communist cess pit in a cess pit of a country? How so?
-
In my local DVD rental place (When we had one) They had a special stand to display British comedy shows because they are very highly regarded. I wonder if anyone can guess how many ITV comedies were on that stand?
-
I just said you have problems, and hopefully implied you might have mental issues that's all. I'm not worrying about you.

Debating the BBC is fair enough, but Alpine's posts contain a great deal about other topics, and the manner he discusses them suggest to me that he has a lot more problems in his life than a broadcasting organization from outside of the country he lives in.

Some perspective for the season-long journey
Ohio Saint replied to CanadaSaint's topic in The Saints
Well I like it!!! It takes my mind off the reality of the situation and gives me a false sense of security. -
Once you let go of something like the BBC it's gone forever. It has it's faults, but is beyond compare with anything else out there.

BTW: To anyone who thinks it's over the top to see a poll like this every week...For the moment, I disagree. It is interesting for me to monitor where we stand on this issue, at least until if and when we come out of a near free fall. I'd much rather view stats generated by all of us than trawl through all the lame comments by the same old faces to gauge how we really feel.
-
I wavered about NA somewhat yesterday I must admit. I'm back on the bus now, but the collapses are becoming more and more depressing. Defeat, I can handle. The team folding up like a broken deck chair is what is killing me.
-
Flattest MOM poll ever. Who cares?
-
That's the part that upsets me. That is the part that I am invested in.

And I await your humility

I'm sure that WHam fans will be full of themselves, but I hope they realise that losing to them was the catalyst for Saints fans to realise just how bad things are here. I mean, losing to THOSE tossers! Yes! NOW we realise just how bad things are here!
-
Mods? Right now would be the right time for a new poll on Adkin's viability as manager.
-
Even solent are debating this right now

He was a ghost. Nothing more. I feel bad for him.

He's gone, but he will always have a place in my heart........Pussy alert!!!
