  1. Good minds and all that.....! I actually picked up the tip from Jamie Oliver; he's a bit of a douche but I watched a program of his and the food looked so wonderfully presented. He first dooes a goose and then a turkey (although I'm pretty sure the turkey he uses is stone cold, it wasn't that bloomin' easy when I've done it....)
  2. Damn right; they are an absolute must in a left over turkey, stuffing, pig in blanket and cranberry sauce sandwich!
  3. The best stuffing comes from the bird itself. And as long as you're following you're weight/timing correctly there should be no risk at all. And if in any doubt, take the stuffing out and while the turkey is resting put the stuffing back in the oven while the spuds etc are finishing (this will also crisp it up quite nicely).
  4. RIP the more reasoned posters.
  5. Some tips from the Kraken household: Always wrap the turkey in bacon. Foil on for the bulk of the cooking until the last hour or so when you crank up the oven and remove the foil to crisp up the skin. To make things easier for yourself with timings of the veg etc you can rest the Turkey for at least half an hour by completely foiling it and then covering it with (strange to say but it works) a towel or two. As its a big old bird it'll retain a lot of the heat anyway but this will also ensure it is wonderfully moist. For carving; get someone else to do it! But the easiest and best way I've found instead of the standard sliced carve is this: take off the breasts entirely (can be a bit tricky with a big bird that's still hot) and cut through the thickness of the breast to give 1cm thick slices. That way you ensure that everyone has a part of the meat that is closest to the skin, and also a part that is deeper down (plus a bit of skin for everyone). Smirking's recipe for the spuds is an absolute must. Swede; usually do this advance and put in a bowl which then gets microwaved at the end (not ideal but cuts out a lot of hassle when you've got 10 jobs to do in just a couple of minutes). Veg, not really much else to say there. But v. important IMO to have (as well as the standard stuffing) lots of individual stuffing balls which can get cooked in the oven. These are great as they're a different texture to the normal stuffing, but we always make far too many as they're lovely to have as an evening snack or in a turkey leftover sandwich.
  6. Which ones?
  7. Really? I thought he was all sorts of average against Reading. Shooting off target, not able to effectively hold the ball up, although he ran the channels fairly well. Certainly didn't do anything to suggest he was previously one of the Championship's top strikers, IMO our victory was very much despite him rather than because of him. And yet I saw some comments on here saying they could now see why we've paid £7M for him. Fair enough, but I just can't go along with that.
  8. Of course. But there is still the distinct probablity of Portpin appealing any court case that goes against their wishes; where that leaves the PDT and its HNWs is anyone's guess, but it doesn't look rosy either way.
  9. Not with another parachute payment due around February time, no...... Althought they've some way to go before having the longest admin; Palace I believe were in their first one for close to 18 months.
  10. That looks like a fake footprint to me. Like a baby's shoe dipped into some grey flour.
  11. It will be longer than 15th January. It has to be; that's just the date of the court case. Even if PKF do win, the PDT's takeover of the club and acceptance into the league won't get ratified until days or even weeks after that (I believe the FL have to offcially vote on it at one of their meetings, at worst an EGM to do so). PKF must be laughing all the way to the bank.
  12. Actually, that's all I am judging on in the case of JRod. I've explained this to others before so I'll apologise for the repeat; but I think for this season only that £7M on JRod could have been spent much better elsewhere. Is he worth that type of money? In this market, probably, and I know for a fact that we had to outbid at least one other club who bid a similar amount in order to get him. My "problem" with him is that he's one for the future, when particularly this season we need one for now. If RL (God forbid) gets injured then I can't envisage a football team we could put out that is good enough without him. He also has no real competition for his place; or IMO a genuine option to go 442 and play a second striker alongside him. Next season (if we stay up) and beyond I would thoroughly welcome such a long-term approach to signings; and by then Rodrigiez might hopefully have developed such that he is worthy of a starting spot. Until then I think it was the wrong gamble.
  13. Not a lack of ambition; we were never going to go for him once we'd decided to go for Rodriguez. I'd still have Pogrebnyak over Rodriguez in a heartbeat.
  14. Not sure it was that. But there was certainly some commentary that they got their transfers completed early in the summer. In terms of the actual signings made; a lot of them were like for like with ours, really.
  15. Exactly. What would a Mirror journalist know about the internal workings of Southampton Football Club anyway? Laughable.
  16. Think we've already seen it, haven't we? Micah Richards and John Bostock have already made it in the pro game.
  17. If we can manage to only score one own goal it'll show some progress has definitely been made.
  18. The question surely must be; why on earth are the PDT sanctioning overpaying on wages? If it was coming out of your own pocket would you not first talk to the administrator and get him to reduce the wage bill? Its quite easy to do; you let these players' contracts lapse and don't renew them. Its been said before; but if a court appointed administrator cannot after nearly one year at the helm get them to stop losing money, then what is the point? An utter basket case of a club and supporter base that encourage this type of lunatic way of doing business.
  19. He also referred to Tottenham as "Yid Army", which is another hot potato of late. I think Mitch is a little bit of a renegade, bless him.
  20. It's unimportant. The PDT have other backup options. I know this because they've said so. Just like they said they were coming into the courtroom for a fight; "let's ave it!!!!", they cried. Some fight that was, they rolled over and begged for some time to think about it all.
  21. And there's the rub really. If you're using the term mong or spaz directly to someone with learning difficulties then the connotation is directly clear; its bullying and its out of order. But using it to one of your mates in jest, the connotation changes entirely. Its akin to calling a mate a cripple after he's been taken out by a hefty challenge on the football pitch and is limping off. Its akin to calling someone blind if they can't see something obvious, or calling people deaf if they don't hear something. All of those are, by the exact definition, mocking the afflicted. But they're not, really. I speak as someone who has a sister who has been severely mentally handicapped since birth. If someone described her as a mong or a spaz then I'd likely find it very offensive. Using it as a general term in parlance with your mates is entirely different IMO, and I don't necessarily have a problem with it. The lady on the radio was entirely correct; she was upset about the terms being used as express and direct terms of bullying towards her and her family. And Ricky Gervais also stepped over that line with his "they" comment. The trick is finding where that line is; and in truth it'll be different for everyone.
  22. The Kraken approves of this.
  23. How is this still going?! Keep on in there pap; love the determination amidst some poorly executed (yet somehow extremely angry) responses. And why is Charlie still talking in the third person?
  24. No it doesn't mean nothing adrian. You may think otherwise, but could have won is a tiny bit different from actually winning. The two are not the same thing, they really aren't. I don't really want to lower my expectations of my side such that I'm 100% satisfied when they could have won. Carry on if that's good enough for you, by all means though. It's just not for me.
  25. That's quite possibly one of the worst written pieces of sports drivel I've ever read. The one sentence paragraphs are bad enough, but the actual written prose is so poorly executed. And how seriously does Neil Allen take himself??!! Really, really bad writing.
