  1. If he were to drop his wages to a reasonable level (circa £40k pw), and his transfer value were no more than £7m, would he be worth signing. Although he struggled last season, his sides profligacy was one of the main issues he ended without a number of assists. Considering this was 1 season after being named Villa's player of the year, I think he would be a very decent buy. He's really not that bad, and would be great to play on the left side of midfield. What do people reckon? The old addage of buying a good player off a bad year.
  2. But these aren't the only types of players available. I agree that young with potential is better than journeyman and has beens. No one would disagree. What section would you place players like Michu, Hoillett, De Guzman in for instance?
  3. I agree with all those sentiments, and the last point you make is what worries me. Please also note I don't blame NA for our transfer 'woes', I believe the transfers are down to Les Reed and the scouting team.
  4. I have to say I don't think JRod is anywhere near the ability of Lambert. Yes, he has age on his side (I seem to remember Beattie was poor until about 23), but I don't think he'll make an impact this year, which others clearly do.
  5. And I've never said people should believe what I say. However, even if we signed all those players now, I would still be unsure how well we planned the Summers spending due to the lateness of their arrivals. At the same time though, I would be very happy if we did sign them.
  6. I actually think Gazza, Davis and Clyne are fine, JRod I'm really not sure of. For me it's the fact that we have 3 days to go and still no CB's. That says to me that we ae confused as to who we want, how much we believed they should be available for, and whether or not they'd be interested.
  7. Instead of posting inflammatory things like the above, why don't you just debate with him and try to get your point across.
  8. I take your point, but at the same time I also believe there has been very poor planning on the transfer front. Of course, there is no way to prove this either way, I just feel that we could have done a far better job so far in this market, this Summer.
  9. I honestly don't believe we are trying to adopt this strategy. However, I do feel this Summers transfers have been poorly thought out/scouted based on the supposed ambitions of the Chairman/Manager.
  10. What I wanted was as follows: Good quality Premiership ability (not one for the future) Top division experience (not just Prem) Prior to the first game of the Season so that they could bed in For the following positions: CB x 2 LB x 1 RB x 1 CM x 1 RW x 1 ST x 1 So far we have managed to fill 2 of those spots going by the above parameters (Davis and Clyne (hope he continues to prove me wrong)). The problem with doing business late is it means we will invariably pay more for players. There was no real excuse as to why a lot of this business (not all) could not have been done prior to the last week of the transfer window. But, and I'll stress this, is my opinion on the matter.
  11. I was so glad we didn't sign Fontaine. Even outside the injury the guy really isn't very good.
  12. Imagine if that was the way the Forum worked, that would be quality. We could have weekly challenges. I believe this, you believe that, whoever loses is expelled from the forum.
  13. Because the last time he was in the Premiership with Villa he was awful. Personally I question his ability to step up to the Premiership based on his previous experiences. However, he is better than Fonte and Hooiveld, so worth a shot if the price (no more than £5m) and wages (no more than £30k a week) are right.
  14. I wouldn't even start. Having your own opinions that are contrary to the vocal masses is a bad idea, you'll just get insulted. Just tow the party line that the club has tried extremely hard since the beginning of the Summer, and that we will sign 2 x CB's, 1 x LB and a winger in the last 3 days, and that the Wigan game was a freebie anyway (which was why we didn't need to sign these players prior to the start of the season).
  15. I doubt it, Turkish promised to earlier this year and went back on his word.
  16. I know it won't, fanciful and not very financially prudent. 1 x LB, 2 x CB's and 1 x winger please.
  17. He isn't saying that at all, but he's saying that peoples attitudes differ dependent on how the player came to the club.
  18. Boilesen is more a LB, and I think we do need one.
  19. I would not complain if that happened!!
  20. Guly was excellent against city in 2 positions, both up front and then 'in the hole'. I would prefer to see him in the hole and then Lallana on the right. I know inside out wingers are the flavour of the day at the moment, but if we sign Ramirez, a mobile trio of Guly, Lallana and Ramirez allowed to roam would rip teams to shred. 2 tricky, skillful dribblers, one pace and power. Could really work.
  21. What do you expect from our fans? They regularly prove on here they know jack sh!t about football. Guly is a decent player, and really has done a lot to get us to the Premiership in the last couple of years.
  22. No, just knew you'd be responding to me as you like to follow me around and throw the hard man thing at me, so I thought I'd look. I think 7 of your last 10 posts responding to me have said that though, so at least you're consistent, if very hypocritical. At least I try to mix mine up by changing your name.
  23. I have to commend you Trollish, you are very good at trying to get a reaction.
