  1. Would the age of the yaris matter, or are they all good? Seem to be a few around for £2k. At what point should the cam belt be changed? Anything else I should be aware of?
  2. yup, to remind everyone. I have a VW Passat, that gives me the space I need. I have a Yamaha Fazer, 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, plenty for me. Together this is £10k spent of vehicles, hence not wanting to spend more than a couple of K on a knock around car. I need a small car as a run around as my wife will mainly use the Passat.
  3. hmm, some 206 gti's easily in the price range
  4. ........small........
  5. Civ 2 was a killer, would get back from my gf's house about midnight, stick it on for an 'hour' then realise i was going to bed as my parents were waking up!
  6. Would LOVE a skyline, but doesnt really fit into my small car category...
  7. That was what the motorbike was for!
  8. cant see them knocking off £795
  9. Polo was the first thing I was looking at...
  10. Cant really justify more than £2k when its a) a second car and b) I already have a motorbike that costs more.
  11. woooooosssshhhhhhhhhh
  12. Wife will soon (fingers crossed) pass her driving test, at which point she'll take my VW Passat off my hands (theory being, if shes going to have a crash in something with the kids I'd rather it was in something sturdy!) So, I'm putting £2k aside to get myself a small motor. Any suggestions? Im old enough that what every I get insurance wise will be peanuts, so really its down to you guys. Would like a *fairly* pokey engine, dont need any major boot space, dont really care about fancy things like A/C or E/W (though would be a nicety of course) thoughts?
  13. WSS, if we didn't think you were acting as a troll on this thread, we'd probably give your questions some serious answers like a) you'd need to position the equipment that far away to avoid electonic interference from the LM equipment, or b) the amount of thrust required to lift the LM back to the orbiter is minimal
  14. Many house sized craters where you live?
  15. I'm guessing they didnt jump whilst handling scientific instruments...............

  17. China have already launched their on lunar module and they are looking to put a man on the moon within 15 years.
  18. China do, easily. In fact, whilst we're on the subject of Stephen Baxter books, Moonseed is an excellent book where China have colonised the moon.
  19. Basically, the American public didn't believe that a continuation of the Apollo programme was a good use of resources. NASA was mandated to develop cheaper methods for space exploration, part of which was a reusable vehicle, and so the shuttle was born. Its a very interesting argument, in terms of scientific development, would we have been better off continuing our push for the stars, to the detriment of programmes such as Cassini and the shuttle, or was it better to concentrate on near earth exploration, barely breaking the surface of our atmosphere. An excellent book written by Stephen Baxter called 'Voyage' explores this 'alternative' history, where the USA puts a man on the moon in the 1980's.
  20. Indeed, we're talking about an era where splitting the atom became commonplace. Where 70 years later, rogue states are still struggling and testing in order to do the same.
  21. BTW, for those that do 'believe', the LRO has been taking detailed pictures of the Moons surface and has returned some neat images of junk we left on the moon, including a footpath between the landing vehicle and scientific equipment http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/LRO/multimedia/lroimages/apollosites.html
  22. Well, Werner Von Brawn (excuse spelling, can't be arsed to look it up) was happily building V1 and V2 rockets that pumelled London in WWII, over 20 years earlier. He was then taken on by NASA to help on the Apollo programme. Don't think I need to point out that the most stress a rocket is under is on liftoff. Well, NASA sent probes there before landing a man on the moon. That weren't used until the later Apollo missions. *sigh* That's why NASA sent probes. http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/Hbase/solar/surveyor.html 1969. Be a bit pointless going and not bringing anything back. Apart from Apollo 12, 14, 15, 16 ,and 17. I think you just need to read your history a bit more first.
