3 recent PL teams down to League One - Coincidence?
saint1977 replied to Saint Martini's topic in The Saints
I'd agree with that, Parkinson built a side at Colchester that not only went up but had a good push for the CCC play offs under Geriant Williams the following season. He had a shocking start at Hull and ironically was sacked after we walloped them at the KC. Charlton's board are more happy to invest to keep them afloat than the idiots we've only just got rid of so if they stay out of administration and use the Shelvey money wisely they should do well next year. Some of my best friends are Norwich fans and a couple of others are West Ham and Roeder is a bad word to say. PR with fans would appear not to be his strong point from the alleged stories I have been told. Sad, as Norwich have a good, loyal fanbase although Delia has retained a lot more credit with Canaries fans as the club would not be afloat without her or other local businesses that have put money in over the years to keep them going. Gunn, nice man but again the number 2/in-culture mistake. Want Leeds to go up as well and would have preferred Blackpool and Barnsley or Plymouth for company going down with us to keep the competition more modest for L1 promotion. However, Home Park is never easy to go to so have told Norwich friends to stay away from razors until Sunday evening at least! -

Agree totally with your sentiments and we won't be seeing 19C or any of his like on here again. No point in suing anyone, let's take our medicine, get a new buyer which sounds promising on the Fry thread and use the -10 as a motivator next season. Look at how it fired up Leeds last season at the start and they were -15. Lots of sympathy from other fans, they know how badly we've been let down over the last 5 years. Ignore any idiots on here who try and blame it on us fans. -

Might as well, beats using Soton Uni's like they do at the moment! There's always a few morons but the Pompey fans that I've spoken to today were sympathetic and worry that they will go down next year and may head the same way. -

Comparing apples and pears. Mate of mine is a Foxes fan and there was a lot of Mandaric out sentiment but much as I dislike the man, he puts his money where his large mouth is. He is also an owner, Lowe was a CEO with a sub-6% stake and therefore an employee. Not having a pop, just stating facts. Fans see what Askham and co have taken out and want a totally fresh start. -

Yes but only because they knew Rupert and Mike had no strategy for moving forward despite their pathetic delusions to the contrary. Even the academy is a wreck now. Rupert and Wilde's only interest were their shares. What was the point of them coming back? -

McG I think. Good pic as it sums up how we as fans are feeling. We're just going to have ensure: 1) We get a buyer with enough resources to move forward 2) We rebuild and stay in L1 next season 3) We get behind a new regime and remember that we are all Saints fans 4) Ensure Askham, Wilde, Lowe and co are NEVER involved with SFC again 5) We don't take our club for granted -

I think he's just a poor CEO to be honest. Barclays have shot themselves in the foot a bit though, does this mean they may get a worse deal than if they'd shut Rupert and Wilde down the week before the cut-off? -

Thanks Rupert, you could at least have spared us the -10 for next season. Shows you his true colours. -
Why are pro-Lowers MORE vociferous now??
saint1977 replied to Legod Third Coming's topic in The Saints
Who cares frankly. SLH is pulverised and we need to somehow to find a buyer to keep us alive. Sundance can post all the rubbish he wants but frankly it matters not a jot. It doesn't look too bright a scenario right now but perhaps the more modest buyers that the adminstrators are talking to are keeping expectation realistic and not much seems to be leaking out which could be encouraging. -
Why didn't Crouch save us from administration?
saint1977 replied to Nineteen Canteen's topic in The Saints
£1000 out of the amount Askham made is nothing. Don't be fooled by it. He only got involved with Secure Retirement as it was good for him, Wiseman, Richards and chums and they made a packet. SFC's long-term future and the ability to be able to fund a professional club, let alone one that would build such large overheads, didn't enter his mind as he counted his ill-gained loot. Doubt if he spared George Bowyer a thought. -
Hope their aim is better than Richard Chorley!

Good post. Sundance/19C really needs to move on now. By the way, didn't him/it acknowledge anywhere the support the board got in the 1990s when trying to build the stadium? I certainly attended most of the meetings. Yet according to C19 it's all our fault and the consistent dreadful appointment of managers, huge money squandered on non-playing loans and players that can't even get in the reserves XI, the White Elephant of a Dome and lack of confidence in Lowe and Wilde by Barclays had nothing to do with it. I mean I'm no fan of Leon Crouch and have my doubts that he can have much impact but really Sundance, some of your postings have been very desperate of late. Personally, I wish Askham and friends hadn't got Secure Retirement on board and that we'd picked a proper consortium but that's history now. What needs to happen is that we pull together and save this club. -
Personally, I'm reassured by the lack of leaks or Barry the Briefcases. It means we might actually have some realistic, feasible proposals on the table which are receiving due diligence. I've only just got back from overseas for the last few weeks so you guys are ahead of the game on the little info that I've had but Fry seems fairly optimistic to me.

ITV4 - Thursday - 1979 League Cup Final - Saints v Forest

My old man put a few quid on Peach for the first goal at 16-1. -
I bet those loans are on less than the dross we've brought in too. Mifsud can't be on that much at Barnsley either, they've got a low wage celing imposed after going into administration a few years back. Personally we need a RB badly and that would free up James to play RM where I think he is our best option at present.

I agree with everything in this post and the question has to be asked - who has been making these decisions? If it was JP then it merited the sack by itself but I have a feeling the decisions are being made elsewhere. About time the decision-makers were held accountable - all these wasted loans and freebies could have been used on 3 or 4 genuinely decent players for this level even given the bleak finances.

Saints couldn't afford Pearson - it all sounds very familiar..

Top post. I want the focus back on the football and I'm sick of Rupert, Mike, Leon, Lawrie and plenty of others just f@cking squabbling and coming out with garbage whilst Rome burns to a cinder. -

I'm not a Rupert fan but he's a million times preferable to Guy Askham. SFC will never move forward until Askham drops off his perch.

It used to for George Burley (allegedly....)

First of all we are not down yet! It's not looking healthy but at least for once other results went OK on Saturday. IF it did happen these for me are the main factors: - Askham: setting up a share deadlock that made him wealthy man and shafted the club. Still meddling too. - Lowe: Forgetting past errors, appointing JP was sheer lunacy and I suspect has interfered until Wotte told him to butt out - JP: wasted our loans this season with the squad so threadbare and stupid tactics - David Jones (Finance Director) - almost as culpable as Askham, has been there since Secure Retirement came in - Wilde: Didn't deliver as Chairman, appointed rubbish into key Senior posts and daft u-turn. - The players - haven't worked hard enough often enough and don't have the same level of committment or character as past squads that have successfully negotiated drop battles.
-
Hmm, good question. Probably Wotton who is glacially slow. We should have got a RB in on loan as we've wasted our loans or instead of Molyneux.
-
Yes and a few people around me at Saturday's game were commenting on this as well. I'd drop him which is a shame given his natural ability but we can't play teams with passengers in our league position and that goes for McG as well. Paterson is very raw but at least he looks vaguely like an athlete and will work hard and make the opposition uncomfortable which is where Euell has helped us since coming back in the side.

Totally agree, Rudi did well with Routledge's pace and Gillett gave 100%. At least Surman seemed to be giving it more of a go than the Derby game although still not his best. Some of the others, not least Lallana and McG, needed putting behind a screen and shooting. McG would feature in most people's Saints worst ever XI, he really is on a par with the likes of David Lee, Lee Todd, Scott Marshall and rubbish like that. Thankfully I'm now overseas for most of our remaining home games.
