Yep, it’s been conceding late goals, soft goals and failing to hold onto leads that are costing us not having another striker who can score 20+ to make a us win games 4-3 if I was manager of a team at any level I’d start by having a competent, solid goalkeeper, in front of them two central defenders whose job it is to defend, put their bodies on the line, get blocks in, tackles mark properly, in front of them a strong holding midfielder, unless they were injured or their form fell off a cliff they’d start every game and then build everything else around them.

Bazunu might improve but at what cost? Are we going to stick with him for a few more years costing points then if when he’s finally good enough flog him, which we know is going to happen. The reality is he’s probably at least 5-6 years away from getting anywhere towards his peak to the point where a top club would want him that can afford to pay what the fee will be. Plus unlike other positions you can only play one goalkeeper soo ok no guarantee even if he is ever good enough anyone would want him. how many more points are we going to drop between now and then? Man City must love dealing with us, with the money they’ve made from us we’ve basically covered Haalands transfer fee.

Just like strikers and centre backs our glovesman recruitment has been absolutely ridiculous for years. Signing Gunn for £10m when we already had Forster and McCarthy. Giving McCarthy a long term contract which made him one of the clubs highest paid players whilst never really being a competent keeper and is now third choice. Signing Lis then loaning him out, signing a keeper who had never played above league one level and expecting him to immediately become a premier league level keeper. Then having back up so bad you have to stick with him despite him being not up to the job, it’s an utter shambles when you look at it. How hard is it to pickup a fairly experienced and competent goal custodian that might make the odd point winning save?

Our form has been pretty poor of late w5 d1 l4 last 10 games. Over a 46 game season 73 points so might just about have made play offs. Right at the time when we should be kicking on with everyone fully onboard with Russball it all seems to have fallen off a cliff. Blackburn need a win so will be well up for it. Expect the usual script lots of the ball, concede a soft goal well score probably be a draw

Really? When it works it’s great. The second goal yesterday was excellent. At times this season we’ve played the glorious stuff. First halves v Leeds and Swansea for example. The problem with it is that when it doesn’t work we look terrible. We’ve very easy to play against, we concede far too many goal, Many of them avoidable and we stick to it rigidly whatever which is costing us points. this is the problem with a philosophy. On paper it’s great, when you’ve got the worlds greatest players doing it usually against inferior players and you’re regularly playing clubs with a budget 1/5 of yours then it’s a lot easier to implement, when you’ve championship level players playing in a combative league it’s much much harder to make it work. I don’t mind Russball if I was a neutral but as a Saints fan it’s not going to win us promotion.

The fact that a club like Man United want him proves what a success he’s been. We have an identity and a philosophy we might not achieve the clubs aim of automatic promotion but not all failure is bad you sad fucks.

I love these theories I remember the days when Lowe was picking the team. So did Cortese, Reed and the senior players. We’ve also had Rohl, Black, Kelvin Davis were all responsible for everything good or bad depending on your perspective could it just be that Martins in game management is poor which is why we throw away so many games late on. From the start he doesn’t know what his best team is and is trying to include some senior players which appears to be to the detriment of the team at the moment?

Ipswich scored their second about 20 mins before Bree was sent off. we were very good until they hit the post I’d say over the 90+ minutes we were the better team and still conceded 3. They won because they have defenders who get blocks in a keeper who makes important saves when it matters all we have is a have a philosophy.
