Fair enough, IMO Puel overachieved given his circumstances and Martin has underachieved given his. I remember a stick used against Puel was that in his 8th placed finish it was only because it was low points total for finishing 8th in a usual season, a classic comment that it "wasn't a good 8th" yet the defence for Martin is that this season is a high points total for top 2, i guess his 4th place is a good 4th on that basis? people cant have it both ways.

it's seemed that way for a while really. It's not hard to play against us if a team gets it right, plus we're a team with confidence shot to bits now, that's been unsettled by a couple of unessasary january transfers and by the managers instance to play a certain player whatever the cost and disruption on the team. All in all a bit of a shit show really.

It’s arguable that Poch had a much better squad than Puel as well. He had Lallana, Lovern, Lambert, Shaw, Clyne, Wanyama a fit Rodriguez and a motivated Fonte for a full season. All of which walk into Puels team. Puel overachieved in the circumstances just because the “I demand entertainment” brigade don’t like doesn’t mean it isn’t true

he's been pulled up on his "clumsy language" multiple times by numerous people, yet he continues to use it so it's not like he's totally unaware the words he is using are wrong. If people kept on telling you the words you are using as a minimum wrong and could also be considered racist and offensive, why on earth would you continually use them unless you were very ignorant, very thick or what people say you are?

WTF? 8th placed and a cup final was one of the top 5 season in our history in terms of finishes. How much better should we be doing than that? The squad we had significantly weaker than the one of the previous season, Mane and Pelle responsible for over thirty goals the season before were replaced by Austin, Boufal and Redmond, Wanyama was replaced by Hojbjerg and Fonte and Van Dijk missed half the season without being replaced. Plus there was the additional fixtures in the Europa league to contend with. By contrast Martin has one of if not they best squads in the division. He absolutely should be doing much better

limp over the line completely out of form, play well in the semi finals but lose narrowly with us all bemoaning a poor ref decision or lucky goal. It's how we do it.

You lads of that era had an unbelievable few years. FA cup win, promotion, league cup final, European tours, finishing second, 84 at Fratton, it’s just a shame we never won more, should have won the FA cup again in 84 really, Ipswich won the UEFA no reason why we couldn’t have. Plus it was all before football became a corporate machine for a TV audience. sadly I was that little bit too young for it all. That period of 76-85 has to be the best period in our history by some distance, apart from now obviously.
