He's not saying be soft on every crime, but i totally agree that the punishment dished out for football related "crimes" are well over the top in compaision to those given out for non football realted offences. If someone had thrown a stone on a friday night in town they'd get a £50 fine, at football likely 200 hours community service. The reason is absoultely totally completely that it is high profile and that eveyone salivates over football related crime. The plastic wannabe hooligan love it that their club get recoginsed as having a hooligan element, some take the tut tut, silly boys thought and there are an element which believe every football thug is Ian Huntley in Stone Island and should be publicly executed. The papers love it because it sells papers, just have a look what is the most read story on the echo site, everytime any football violence related incident takes place. The police love it because it gives them the chance to cover themselves in glory as they can exagerate the incident and claim how by banning, jailing, comm serving these mindless thugs the world is a much safer the place. The truth is like it or loathe it you lap it up and it fasinates everyone, its high profile media driven and they use their standard lines like "it resemembled a scene from Braveheart" "mindless thugs" enjoy reading the stories, posting about it and talking about it, we all know secretly you lot cant get enough of it.

Does anyone know why the echo have stopped printing them? They only did about 4 or 5, i thought they said they were doing the whole team. I was looking forward to putting them all on sticks and passing them round all my mates so we can have one each during the game.

yes the sweepstake was a great idea by the players and worked. To give you a heads up some players next week will be wearing long sleeve shirts and some short sleeved shirts, i'm not saying who the smart money is on to start the thread...

i've found out, the players did it on purpose so they could see if a thread would be started on here with people bickering over the whys and wherefores of the impact socks have on the outcome of the game. There was a sweepstake that Lady Saint would start the thread, Apline or Glasgow saint would comment on the fact no team has won any trophy the last six months wearing multi coloured socks. Crab Lungs would suggest Dan kerins write an article on it in his amazing weekly column in the echo, Romsey Stu would comment that no thug would be seen dead wearing red socks and the thread would be blocked my midday today due to the tedious, stupid and totally pathetic nature...
