  1. But if Shaw, Chamber and AL for example were to leave in the next two years then it would be JWP plyus Gallagher who isn't a proven first team player. Shame that most of the better Academy players don't even stay for a fifth of their career. We have been lucky with the quality of player we have had until now, but it can't carry on forever.
  2. The sum of Benali's appearances made a far greater impact on Saints than the transfer money we got for Bale. Club has said the role of the Academy is to produce players for our first team and to have 50% making up the starting XI. If you let players go before they really start realising potential then that will never be very hard to do whilst also playing at a high level. When Kids grown up in our Academy they see it as a way to join a big club rather than play for Saints which is a shame.
  3. Was thinking slightly more recently but of course that is true. Suprising how few have done it though. Perhaps an argument to suggest that our Academy hasn't really produced quality players for our first team long term but instead has developed players for football in general. Certainly of the more recent Academy players only Lallana has anything near Saints hero/legend status which is a shame considering the volume and quality of player the system generates. Sadly Chambers will be another unlikely to reach 100 games.
  4. Was just wondering, over the last 15-20 years or so, how many players developed by the club's hugely successful academy have actually played over 100 games for Saints? Bridge Oakley Lallana Surman Any others?
  5. The MP stuff is most bizarre. The club says they really want to keep him and are "fighting to". MP says they haven't talked to him about a new contract. Bizarre and if true shocking.
  6. Of course in public and in theory. But not necessarily with actions.
  7. Based on what? Krueger even said he won't make statements about goals etc so no way you can say they are looking to improve on 8th. In fact, Im sure if you offered them 8th next season they would bite your hand off for it.
  8. And no guarentee that we will spend more regardless of any sales.
  9. Are we though? Really? In all likelihood we will start next season with a weaker team than we end this.
  10. Hopefully communication of the sales will be open and engaging with fans. If we get stripes back many won't care about the bodies that are in them.
  11. Everyone mentions Targett but he wasn't even ready to play a Cup game this season and those who have seen a lot of him have said he is nowhere near ready. We have been lucky with our Academy players but can't expect them all to be able to do what Shaw and Chambers have and slot in with ease, because not all will be good enough to.
  12. If he goes for £30m it's not like that will be upfront. We will probs get approximately £10m upfront as all transfers are paid in installments. Then, I doubt we will spend more than £30m in the summer (which a couple of ITKs here have said we were going to anyway) so basically not like the Shaw money will suddenly be used to drastically improve the squad. More and more it sounds like the OTT statements in the financial report were to attempt to rationalise this to fans, and possibly the sale of others too. End of the day, for a PL team to owe 27m in transfers is nothing. We will earn 80-90m from Sky and as we have a low ish wage bill due to squad size will be much better off financially that most PL teams. What happens when it's £18m for Lovren and Schneiderlin, £20m for Lallana and £10m for Chambers next summer? Will those still be seen as "good business"?
  13. Bigger priority to sort out MP future.
  14. Yes. Not like he will lose value.
  15. Hopefully we will get stripes back pal.
  16. Hopefully it will be done sooner rather than later, not Aug 31st.
  17. £100k a week is insane. If that is true £30m an ok fee but would hope we have included some significant sell on fees in there. We always hear that Shaw is happy at Saints, and I am sure he is, but no way he can turn that down, and he will certainly leave this summer.
  18. Moyes is so good with young players that he picked Phil Neville ahead of Barkley all last season. No thanks, and hopefully Poch stays.
  19. So...why would Saints wait. They don't need him to prove anything and we arent involved in latter stages of competitions etc. I can fully understand why he would be keen to wait but not us.
  20. Both parties might have agreed to do that but why would Saints want to wait? Surely better to sort now and start planning for next season now. Waiting has no benefit. He is a top Manager and the longer his situation is unclear the more interest will build in him. Waiting til end of season just adds more uncertainty, not just to fans but players hence all their comments in the media. Krueger's Guardian interview comments on it were bizarre too.
  21. We have heard nothing is happening from both sides. Until end of season. Why wait? Pochettino said he hasnt had contract talks.
  22. I am absolutely amazed that the club haven't appeared to make a conscious effort to sign Pochettino up longer term. Either they are i.) Completely confident he will stay ii.) Already aware he won't be or iii.) Completely unaware of how football works and how much of a cut throat business it is. If we let one of the best Managers we have had in 20 years, leave limply at the end of the season then it will be hard to have much faith.
  23. Fonte comment interesting...if only we could keep our best players and add...if only.
  24. Why? Walcott, Bale, AOC didnt play more than one full season for us and Shaw/Chambers won't reach 100 apps.
