Whilst not Labour supporter these achivemnts are very comendable, sadly in life as in politics and football people are more often judged on their mistakes not their achivements.

It’s obviously totally unfair. The argument against PR is full of holes, for 40 years we have been ruled by governments who have come no where near obtaining a majority of the votes cast. The numerous boundary changes under both the Tories and Labour have always been biased to ensuring their unholy and unwritten agreement to keep the first past the post system to ensure they can take it in turn to govern. Lack of PR has nothing to do with Lib Dem sour grapes it is about democracy and a fair voting system, 35% of the electorate did not vote for the Tories or Labour and yet the share of seats are Tories 36% of teh vote 48% of the seats, Labour 29% of the vote 40% of the seats Others 35% (more than 1 in 3 of us) of the vote 12 % of the seats, if that’s democracy I’m a Skate!!!!!

The fact they are legally constituted (just) does not give them legitimacy, Griffin is an attention seeking oik whose Cambridge education has equipped him to lead a bunch of ill informed irresponsible thugs. He is of course currently a plastic, but watch out the self appointed fan police, in 10 years time he will be in the Northam setting the rules for the married over 35’s with kids who live outside the city and don’t quite share his youthful and admirable passion for our fantastic club, you never know some of you may have grown up by then and will be one of his targets." These comaprisons are always fraught with danger. In the UK the uniformed establishment is very much focused on the front line whilst the tail is served by both Civil Servants and Industry Staff whilst in China and to a lesser degree the US Uniformed staff perform many of the non front line roles so the per captia comparison needs a good degree of qualification. Your spot on about the concern over benfits spending. Whilst I want to live in caring society these levels of spending are outrageous it appears that a 20% cut would repay the deficit in 7 - 10 years without impacting on other services.

The UK is not the 2nd largest military spender, its 4th in monetary terms, USA, China and France are above us and in % of GDP the UK is 70th, Rusia is 5th and would be above the UK if they paid their staff anywhere near UK levels.
