Matching a manager to a club is and art not a science, good previous performance may provide a degree of comfort but guarantees nothing. As we saw with WGS and much earlier Lawrie Mac the 2 best managerial appointments at SFC in my time have not initially had the WOW factor. I’m sure the Bristol Shi8y fans thought Steve Copple had a bit of wow for them, and look how that turned out. I sometimes wonder if the only reason some want a big name is about short term national or indeed international attention and some weird bragging position.

Far more to Adkins than being an ex physio. His CV shows he is real football man, and has made his name by delivering in difficult circumstances.

Completely agree with your first 8 words, that’s why I do not watch it and have no opinion on any particular character. You obviously torture yourself by watching it. Whilst I detest the programme I understand that several million licence payers do enjoy it and I am sure they do not believe it is a waste of money. Each to his own, use the off button or choose one of the other channels you have access to.

Another tiny piece of toss.

Very well said.

We are neither cursed nor Sh@te. But we can certainly do a lot better.

I am keeping myself sane by believing that the that the ML takeover was the start and that it would not all be fixed in a season. All managers are a gamble, AP was a good choice at the time and certainly did well last season, however as has been pointed out he presided over a shambles of a pre season. I am willing to accept this short term pain for the long term gain. Putting SFC back together after the double relegation, administration and the managerial and chairman revolving door was never going to be easy.

Both goals down to Fonte he has been sh**te

There is no spirit, they pass it around but don't know what to do with it, Fonte is having a mare

The more I find out about Adkins the more I like the idea of him coming to Saints. He is obviously a very intelligent guy who understands people and how to get the beat out of them. He has served a real apprenticeship in football, as a player, back room boy and manager and should have his feet on the ground and his mind focused on success. From knowing little about him at the start of this week I would now be delighted if he came to us.
-
Holloways also in a bit of a dilemma about moving from the Bath area to 'up north' so SMS and Staplewood would be far handier for him, OK not a good enough motive but we could do a lot worse
-
Got it one, thats football and us poor supporters are just that supporters.
-
Sadly I cant see Holloway coming our way, would love it if he did as he understands the lower leagues and has a deep knowledge of the game and is not up himself.

I definitely do not believe a degree is all that matters, as I said above I do not have one, I designed and set up my company's apprenticeship scheme because I believe there is to much emphasis on degrees. However I do not believe that attaining a degree turns you into some sort of privileged pampered wastrel. I do agree with you that there is a problem with the some degree courses that seem to have proliferated for no reason other than to hit the ridiculous 50% target. I don't know why you think your salary supports your credibility in this debate, as we have seen with the bankers financial reward does not confer wisdom.
-
I dont know what industry you work in but either it or you are living far in the past. 20 years in the SM service taught me all I need to know about banter, it also taught me about respect, you obviously have none for our younger generation. I hope you don't need them to help you pee when you get past helping yourself, although I bet it would fuel some good banter.

We don't have a stance theres no need the vast majority of the young today are not arrogant, unlike some older people I know.

As an old style secondary modern boy (no degree) who now works as a Senior Manger in a high tech company (1200 employees) with 80% of the staff having a degree I have no experience of the scenario you paint. I have employed, mentored and coached graduates for the last 20 years and none of them have ever displayed such arrogance, my latest is first class from Cambridge , if they did they would be out the door.

What a weird post, I am not sure I understand it; however it comes across as bitter and twisted. Are your views based on personal experience or plain old fashioned ignorance of the world and people with whom you have no contact.

Mikey it is the usual sterotyping, ignore it and enjoy yourself.
-
What I find amusing is the juxtapostion of this thread with the one ranting about UK Over population. SuperMikey is in the fortunate postion that he can travel widely and find work, go for it get out in the wide world and gain some life experience as well as work experience. It is a good job he is not a johnny foreigner trying to come here.

Britain is now the most over- populated country in the EU
moonraker replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
My eyes are not closed, food security and water security are a global issue and whilst population density in a small geographic area is a factor it is very minor. Your issue of the chronic overpopulation in the South (What is your boundary definition of the South?) it is mainly casused by internal UK economic migration. It could be alliviated by the oppsoite of a Tory think tank proposal last year to move unemployed people from the north to the south, why not send them in the opposite direction however I am sure you value and enjoy your freedom to live and work where you choose, I certainly do and have no wish to deny that freedom to others. -

moonraker replied to dune's topic in The Lounge
On what basis are you stating we are over crowded, the article relates to population density, I can relate to an overcrowded pub or club but I cannot relate over crowding to a country in the same way. Outside of the EU there are a number of countries who have greater population density than England. Is there an international standard against which over crowding can be judged, the UK is about 50th in world population density terms with some notably economically successful countries well above us. To answer your question, not quite directly i admit, nothing in the article gives me any cause for concern. -
Great post, sanity and a realistic understanding of our postion.

That’s a contradiction as Malta is in the EU, also it states England when it is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland that is a member of the EU. -
Hesitant To Post This, But Me I'm Out Of Patience
moonraker replied to TijuanaTim's topic in The Saints
Saints have always frustrated at the start of a season, it is something I find inexplicable it is a saint’s thing, whatever manager and team we have. It does test ones patience, we all want success, I left SMS on Saturday feeling very dejected, however after a couple of days of reflection I could acknowledge that we were the much better team and should have won. 2 league games is not enough to judge, no knee jerk reactions it very rarely gets you anywhere, remind me what was Norwich’s score on the opening day of last season.
