Clearly we are conceding far too many goals this season leading to dropping crucial points and finding ourselves cut adrift from the automatic promotion positions. We play some great football and score some superb goals but, as was the case last night, it's often not enough. RM is never shy of stating that we will never change our possession based style whatever happens. It is this arrogant attitude that leads to us conceding so many goals and throwing away good positions. No team can expect to dominate an opponent for 90 minutes and there will always be times when you need to batten down the hatches and ride out a temporary storm. Good coaches spot the danger signs and use in game management but not RM. If he wasn't so obsessed with keep ball he'd have in place a tactical reset to deal with the sticky periods we face in every game. He could then get a message to the players to go into survival mode and set up a low block with less risky play from the back, a bit of old fashioned shit-housery and more direct football until the tide turns. There are always trigger points when such alternative tactics could be introduced - as examples last night the obvious signs were when Ipswich hit the post or when Bednarek was injured. These two incidents led to Ipswich getting on top for the first time in the game. Instead of reacting RM continued with his gung-ho approach and we inevitably conceded crucial goals. The other elephant in the room regarding conceding too many goals is the goalkeeper. Baz simply does not make anything like enough saves and lets in too many soft goals. Maybe RM has been loyal to him for too long and perhaps Lumley should have been given more opportunities. It is probably time to take Baz out of the firing line for the next few games and let's see what Lumley can do. If he shows he can cope he'll be a better option for the play-offs.

Yes, these photos for the third goal are quite damning. The route to the right side of the goal is blocked by a cluster of players so clearly he needs to be anticipating and moving left much earlier and quicker than he does. Had he used his instincts and gambled he'd surely save the shot. He just seems to lack many of the basic requisites needed to play in goal including awareness, agility, smelling danger and the ability to push hard off one foot when diving. He's only really good with the ball at his feet.

Agree with much of this summary.

There's some truth in this. For example watch Adam Armstrong for the Ipswich equaliser which was a pivotal goal. He is the nearest player to the goalscorer yet takes no responsibility in going to mark him. Had he done such a fundamental basic thing Ipswich would not have scored. I get that he's not a defender but, as an attacker, you'd think he'd be far more aware of the danger but he seemed completely oblivious. I would hope that sort of dereliction to duty is highlighted in no uncertain terms during the post match debrief.

I get what you say but these games are still very important. We need to win as many as possible to breed confidence going into the play-offs. We can't afford to coast through them just because the auto spots are out of reach.

Any keeper worth his salt should be comfortably stopping their first goal tonight. It was a real howler.
-
Yes, would be karma to beat these dirty cheats at Wembley.
-
Leicester fans absolutely slating Baz tonight and saying he saves nothing. He's been given a fair crack of the whip but it's clear he is very poor at shot stopping and rarely pulls off saves that keep us in matches. RM was wrong to give him such unequivocal backing at the Fan's Forum. I'm afraid he is a liability and seems to lack any kind of sharp reflexes or the ability to explode off either foot and make saves.

Ipswich were shite and we outclassed them for most of the game. They kicked lumps out of us for which the ref rightly gave us free kicks and booked some of their players. Their crowd got more and more incensed at the ref and he began to favour them culminating in the red card awarded when their player clearly wasn't getting the ball so threw himself to the ground and rolled over an over. Their continual fouling actually worked in their favour thanks to the weakness of the ref. We were clearly the better side.
-
He should save the first one - nobody can convince me that wasn't a big error by Baz. Then he should have held on to the ball at the end rather than launch it - I get we needed the win but that was a tad naive.
-
I would love it if we beat them at Wembley in the Play-Off Final, fucking love it. Cheating bunch of farmers.,
-
Spot on. They cheated by conning the weak ref with a blatant dive.
-
Fair play Ipswich! They kicked us off the park and dived to get Bree sent off. We were by far the better footballing side and I know it counts for nothing. RM needs to coach some defensive stability because yet again we folded like a house of cards.
-
Embarrassing refereeing!
-
You are fucking kidding me. Just knew they'd do that to us after we outplayed them and wrongly had a man sent off. Pissed with that even though it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Hate Ipswich - jammy bastards.
-
Not even a foul let alone a red card. Ridiculous. Cheating twat dived when he knew he'd lost the ball.
-
I suspect Ipswich will try to press us higher up the pitch in the second half. They've largely allowed us to play out from the back with no real pressure from them so I expect that to change. If so we need to be prepared to go long at times rather than inviting pressure.
-
Very good half of football from us. We have outclassed Ipswich and left them chasing shadows. Unfortunately we only lead by a goal so must keep it going. The next goal is going to be crucial. Thought Baz should have done better with their goal. Aribo has been superb.
-
Agree, it's a huge weakness of his.
-
Less of the walking football more of the high intensity please.
-
Coventry centre back needs one more own-goal for a hat-trick.
-
Unless you visit every football fans forum of course.
-
Did Boro hit the post twice? I know they hit post in first half but don't remember seeing them hit it in second half. Probably an exaggeration for RM to claim we should have won 3-0 but we certainly should have won but for the missed chances.
-
Win, lose or draw we are destined for the play-offs. Think they'll have too much never-say-die attitude for us.
-
I don't think in game tactics is one of RM's strong points. He's never struck me as one who knows how to change the momentum of a game with a clever switch or two.
