plymouth local paper's report PLYMOUTH ARGYLE extended their unbeaten run to four games as they were held to a goalless draw by Southampton in an entertaining clash at St Mary’s. The Saints dominated the opening 45 minutes but were guilty of squandering several good opportunities with David McGoldrick and Jordan Robertson both off target. Plymouth rarely threatened and their best chance fell to Jamie Mackie who shot into the side netting with the angle against him. The visitors looked a completely different side in the second half with substitute Craig Noone going close while McGoldrick had a shot cleared off the line at the other end. Southampton went into the match full of confidence after becoming the first side this season to beat Reading at the Madjeski Stadium and boss Jan Poortvliet kept faith with the same XI. boss Paul Sturrock made three changes from the win over Cardiff with Yoann Folly, Steven MacLean and Mackie coming in for Karl Duguid, Paul Gallagher and Emile Mpenza. The home side started well and had a shout for a penalty with five minutes gone when Bradley Wright-Phillips went down in the box amongst a crowd of bodies, but referee Andy D’Urso waved away the appeals. Five minutes later McGoldrick was inches away from giving Saints the lead with an excellent snapshot from the edge of the area that was deflected just past the post. Plymouth slowly began to find their rhythm and Mackie did go close with a shot from a tight angle that flew into the side netting. However, it was Southampton who were making the better chances and Plymouth goalkeeper Romain Larrieu did well to tip Adam Lallana’s shot round the post and, from the resulting corner, Jordan Robertson headed over. In first-half stoppage-time Wright-Phillips crossed for McGoldrick who headed wide from close range. Plymouth looked lacklustre again at the start of the second half and 10 minutes after the break Sturrock had seen enough, bringing Gallagher and Noone on for Mackie and Fallon. The changes had an almost immediate effect and Gallagher sent a shot wide from 20 yards before Mathias Doumbe crossed for Noone, who could not direct the header on target. Just as Plymouth began to dominate, Southampton had the best chance of the match when McGoldrick latched onto Lallana’s pass and rounded Larrieu, but his shot was superbly cleared off the line by Chris Barker.

Paul Sturrock "But I think a draw was a fair result and it would have been unjust of us to nick it because Southampton played very well."
-
reminds me years ago of a lad at the dell who used to make notes throughout the game!

can't believe that ***** is that bad a word!

David Armstrong was saying on radio as I came home from game that he actually feels sorry for Lowe at the moment as he is keeping the club in existence but will be criticised for selling players, and that any other chairman would do the same. He was asked if chairman came into the changing rooms before games when he played, he said it was the normal thing for a quick visit. Another over reaction on here by people who don't know what goes on at a professional club!
-
Lallana was only used for about 20 mins in total last year, it is only due to the getting rid of the experienced players and playing youth that he is a regular. Schneiderlin was slated on here as being lightweight (alpine) inexperienced, waste of money and Lowe signing. Interesting that how gutted people will be if they are sold. They are exactly the sort of players we should be building a future promotion push around.
-
also a figure head that no-one on here would ***** about (thinking about I am sure they would!). Can't see us paying him and sure he will get better offers
-
he was on for less than 10 mins on his debut ffs. He had couple of ok touches but for a player to get hugely involved in last tens of game when its getting scrappy he would need a bit of luck. No idea how good he is going to be but to criticise him for last night is ridiculous to the extreme.
-
pretty much agree with all comments and ratings apart would have put BWP bit higher -thought he had excellent first 45
-
think did one run to byline, far too soon to judge sorry
-
my iced fancies were never that posh where I grew up
-
JP in echo confirms unchanged side. Think I will need to wrap up -even colder now with ground half empty!
-
take it from post and your location you are not local? Would offer to help but guessing you are too far away sorry
-
Everton, Rooney, WHU Cole, Ferdinand etc good young players go to bigger clubs. we are now a smaller club therefore more will leave simple as that
-
its not better fans its about maturity and honesty. Not having money, working, getting bored, missing premiership -all fair enough. But protest against a chairman who doesn't do interviews and most can't evidence what he is doing wrong -this time, is either childish sulking, cutting off nose etc or just an excuse. More and more seem to be posting on here that they just think it is b*s*t excuses, as I do.
-
the rest of your post is your predictions which may, or may not come true (remember the guarantees that everyone would go in the summer and no-one would come in?) The only bit you posted as a current assessment is the bit above - quite positive
-
I don't think the club is going forward but think aim at moment is to survive
-
this sums up for me the total childish failed logic of all the "protest" stay aways - tempted back -by the good football, yes the team on the pitch, but not going because the nasty man says some words that upset me! pathetic. either childish or liars the lot of them. I do not include those who are honest enough to say they are not enjoying it as much as when we are better, or want to spend their money on their daughters christmas presents.

oh to have Mandaric
-
probably as you masquerade on here wanting to appear to still be a saints fan!
-
but he wishes for empty stadium and administration. agree thats the effect and if people choose not to go due to getting fed up with seeing youngsters go I fully understand
-
agree, fair summary
-
I understand anyone not wanting to go, of course its less appealing for all reasons (footballing ones) we know. Not having players, opposition, winning less, change in your lifestyle etc. Lowe can be blamed for lots of these, so I can see how indirectly he effects your choice, but not to go because you don't like someone sat in the stand is ridicilous, and IMHO not the real reason.

don't believe you sorry.
