Thanks ! Don't knock a couple of good priced winners though on any Monday let alone a Bank Holiday, think it's fair to say though our comments on it being a difficult day were always likely to be on the mark. As for Magic Omen I clearly meant I was putting the kiss of death on you/the horse Oh and I did smile when I saw you tipped Whipma Wopma Gate as I have a photo taken in the late 70's of some friends and me sitting on a wall in York just next to the road sign for Whipma Wopma Gate, it just was fated to win !! Cheers, Chris

I think a lifetime ban is more likely TBH

I think you already know the answer to that question

Indeed not an inspiring day with far too much racing. Only 2 definite bets at present I think might be worth a small bet which indeed is the smart thing today ! Chepstow 4.05 Mountain Forest NAP : Tricky race but Mountain Forest has been running very well on the AW and unlike a number in this race hasn't returned to the flat after campaigning over the jumps. 2/1 looks a fair price. Beverley 4.20 Tribal Myth ew : Tribal Myth has been running well and looks to hold a good chance. However, the draw bias at Beverley only makes things even harder so at 8/1 have gone ew and at least hope for a good run for my money ! Just a few others which are worth a look : 3.20 - Beverley - Amethyst Dawn - Available at 10/1 (Bet 365) Signed off last season back to the level of her Juvenile form when winning over a mile at Nottingham in soft ground from a mark of 61. Narrowly lost out over 12 furlongs at Ripon last July and is unexposed over today's sort of trip, even those two previous efforts have been disappointing. Started off this season over a mile at Thirsk from a mark of 68 and ran well enough to suggest there may be further improvement in this campaign. Has run well in two of three previous outings at this track and is not ground dependent. Stable in very good form. 3.25 Windsor Lay Claim - currently around 7/2 3.30 Kempton - Udabaa currently around 2/1 3.50 - Beverley - Handsome Falcon -Available at 9/2 (William Hill) Hard to criticise many of his 14 outings last season, even though he only had one victory to show for his efforts. A winner of 5 of his 34 races (finished second on seven occasions) he has the profile of a horse who is still slowly improving. Looked in need of his reappearance where he was the stable second string to the yard's easy winner and better can be expected today. Back on his correct mark of 81 for a stable still finding winners and versatile regarding ground conditions. He has been on the premises in most of his 12 races here, winning twice, and this isn't the strongest race in which to attempt a sixth career victory. 4.25 - Windsor - Hollow Green - Available at 7/1 (General) A competitive race in which King's Song, Grey Granite and Hollow Green are favoured with the latter just getting the vote. His form figures over middle distances at this track read 1112516 and they improve to 1121 in races solely over today's trip. They have all been in good ground or faster but he does have a record of 12102 in soft/heavy ground at other venues so underfoot conditions today are unlikely to be a concern. Three of his seven victories have come under today's jockey and they represent an in form yard with a very profitable 12% strike rate at this track. Hollow Green is weighted to win, being one pound below his last winning mark, and has enough in his favour to run a big race. 5.35 - Chepstow - Magic Omen – Available at 9/2 (General) : With Frankie on this one which might be the kiss of death Expensive purchase as a yearling who finished second in all three Maiden outings, only going down narrowly on the last two occasions. Similar level of performance in all three races but not badly treated on this handicap debut judged in the light of those efforts. Bred to appreciate this step up to a mile and represents a powerful, in form yard who haven't sent many here in recent seasons but who boast a 20% strike rate when they do. It would be surprising, and disappointing, if Magic Omen didn't turn out to be a bit better than a 76 rated handicapper. Good luck! Chris

It really was a day of "nearlies" yesterday. Xtension ran an excellent race to finish 4th at 25/1 in the 2000 Guineas but with only some bookies paying ew 1st 4 ( I always have believed not paying 1st 4 automatically is taking the mick really in an 18 runner field !) it goes down in the book as a gallant loser. Lucky Art got beaten by a neck into 2nd at 7/2 and Curaco also 2nd at 9/2 beaten by a 20/1 shot! Today if anything is even trickier and generally for those races I have concentrated on at Newmarket I've found several I would like to back ! However, in the end I've gone for these. Brief analysis only as the wretched flu is making this such a wonderful BH weekend If you are planning to get involved I'd certainly advise small stakes and possibly playing around with a few ew combinations. Newmarket 2.05 Classic Vintage/ Hillview Boy Both win bets: A minefield of a race but both Classic Vintage at around 6/1 and Hillview boy at 10/1 make some appeal. I certainly would not blaming anyone for going ew on these or anything else in this very, very competitive race. 3.20 No 6 Hibayeeb/Blue Maiden ew : Hiybayeeb is not to be confused with horse No 5 Habaayib ! Now with Godolphin this horse looks overpriced at a general 16/1. However, Stan James pay 1st 4 and also pay any winnings in Guineas so definitely the place to have your bet on this and the other I think has a chance at a good price Blue Maiden. 3.55 Flipando - e/w. Available at 25/1 (General)/Imperial Guest - e/w. Available at 25/1 (General) Both these 2 and Mick Channons Rileyskeepingfaith with Kieron Fallon on board look overpriced to me but in a 25 runner field where the favourite Zidane is as big as 8/1 places this is the kind of race bookies love though my strongest bet of the day is that whatever wins they'll moan about it being a bad result ! Flipando will enjoy the likely fast pace and looked quite impressive when winning over this trip on the AW back in February. Imperial Guest runs again following a gelding operation when making a winning reappearance at Brighton recently. Can be temperamental which is always a concern but at 25/1 still looks worth a small ew bet. 5.05 Principal Role NAP : Ran an excellent race on her seasonal debut in the Nell Gwyn stakes and with this step up in trip looking probable to suit this Henry Cecil trained filly looks to be the one to beat. Mick Channon runs Gallic Star with Kieron Fallon on board again, seems sure to find a few too good in this race but if you follow Mick's horses then an ew bet at small stakes at around 20/1 might be worth a speculative punt though I'd be very surprised if Gallic Star was able to win this.

Told you !!

No, that's a banker I reckon !

I'm sure they view you as a charity case too amongst other things. I imagine they always lay on a nice meal when you go in.

But I'm good at googling ! http://southampton-pubs.co.uk/plumeoffeathers/

Blimey, how much did that little lot cost you ? But does it matter, as you say backing winners and winning money is boring.

Don't know any pubs in Southampton any more, couldn't even tell you the name of the pub right next to Vicarage Road and it's only about 100 yards away !

No, I couldn't believe it either especially as the idiot doing the online commentary called Act of War as the winner and my selection last or near the back anyway. Think he must have called it with about a furlong left as Hidden Fire flew home to pip Kip's selection !! But kipper the nipper will do as always and find new ways to lose Don't get too drunk so you can't stagger to the match. Cheers, Chris

Ok, best of luck nipper.

Ok, this may well be it for today : 1.55 - Newmarket - Sandor - e/w. Available at 25/1 (General) Seriously competitive and wide open with a number open to further improvement this season. Dalradian and Brunston come into the race in very good form and both Shamali and Ithinkbest rounded off last season with two wins apiece. However at a much bigger price it may be worth chancing Sandor. His campaign ended on a low note at Chester in August but he wouldn't be the first horse to run poorly there. Prior to that he had been progressive from 8 to 10 furlongs on both the polytrack and turf, his best effort coming when three lengths 5/16 to Roman Republic in a Heritage Handicap at Goodwood. That was strong three year old handicap form and he is bred to progress again as a four year old. The yard, historically, don't send out many early season runners but they do pick up in this month. They send just the one to the races today and employ a top jockey who has a 28% strike rate on their turf horses in recent seasons. 2.15 - Goodwood - Curacao - Available at 11/2 (General) Returned to be narrowly beaten over 12 furlongs at Kempton and is unexposed over a trip at which he was a winner from a two pound lower mark last July at Salisbury. That came at the expense of today's favourite, Devil To Pay, and he is weighted to confirm that result. The selection is versatile regarding ground conditions and, with the yard in good form, he looks primed for a big effort. A slight concern is two moderate efforts on his previous two visits to this track but he has improved since as he has been stepped up in trip and he doesn't have the hassle of having to travel far to this venue. 3.05 - Newmarket - The 2000 Guinneas: Fencing Master - e/w. Available at 14/1 (General) Xtension - e/w. Available at 25/1 (Victor Chandler) Major Trends: Based on the trends from the past 10 years you are looking for a horse: By a sire who had won a group 1 over a mile and finished in first 4 in a 2000 Guineas Born before 07/04/2007 Won on racecourse debut Run at least 3 times (or unbeaten) Finished in the first 3 last time out Having first run of the season (or 1st or 2nd in Craven) Won a group race Won over 7/8 furlongs Trained in Ireland, especially by Aidan O’Brien Priced 9/2 to 11/1. Just adding Fencing Master to my earlier tip Xtension and a few more thoughts. It's difficult to say just how good some of these are or could be. St Nicholas Abbey looked mightily impressive in winning his three races last season but he meets some speedier types here. He is likely to simply outclass all of them but, at prohibitive odds, he is worth taking on, and even if he proves to be as good as he promises, there is money to be made in the place market. Stable mate, Fencing Master, hasn't done anything wrong in his two outings to date, improving massively when running another stable mate, Beethoven, close in the Dewhurst here in October. He still showed signs of greeness that day and is bred to appreciate the step up to a mile. He satisfies enough trends to make him of interest at a double figure price. The same comments apply to Xtension who was a nose behind Fencing Master in that Dewhurst. He has improved with each of his four outings and the step up to a mile for the first time is likely to bring about further progression. 4.05 - Thirsk: Collateral Damage - e/w. Available at 12/1 (Stan James) Medici Pearl - ew Available at 16/1 (General) This race is always very competitive and this renewal is further complicated by the threat of impending heavy rain. That could scupper the chances of some of these but one who would welcome it is Medici Pearl. A winner of 7 of her 34 races, six of those victories have come in ground softer than good. She does however handle good ground so she is quite capable of a big run without the addition of further rain. She ran an eye-catching race on her return at Pontefract, finishing in midfield without being given a hard time. She is on a competitive mark and, although never figuring from four pound higher in this race last season, that came on fast ground and better can be expected under today's conditions. Stable mate, Collateral Damage, also looks to hold a good chance. He was back to his very best last season and is not ground dependent. He looked badly in need of his reappearance at Doncaster and, with that run behind him, he could be a much different proposition today. 5.45 - Thirsk - Lucky Art - Available at 9/1 (Sportingbet) Both career wins have come over C&D and 3 lb below last winning mark. Back to form when first home on unfavoured side at Ripon last time, and repeat of that would see him bang there. 7.50 - Doncaster - Pusey Street Lady - e/w. Available at 10/1 (General) Useful 6f performer at her peak. Found winning better races beyond her last year, but offered more back in a handicap off reduced mark last month. Booking of Jamie Spencer catches the eye back on turf.

Which is why I never do accas TBH though the £50 freebie on BF was easy peasy and that £50 is now £170
