  1. Could just be you and I Frankie ! I agree it is a very tricky day though there are possibly a few decent bets elsewhere. However, for York : 2.00 The draw could well be the key here. Right next to Kanaf in stall 13 is Irish Heartbeat. Ran well 4 days ago at Doncaster and 12/1 looks a decent ew price. Ancient Cross is another drawn high and looks a smart horse. Switching to those drawn low Swiss Franc would be my pick. So: Irish Heartbeat/Ancient Cross/Swiss Franc 2.30 I also like Archbishop here and along with Zumbi these are my 2 v the field. So : Archbishop/Zumbi 3.05 : Seville is a silly price and with Frankie going to scupper Sea Moon I'm going for Thimaar ew at around 25/1. This is very speculative but John Gosden is running him for a reason, at least you would think ! So: Thimaar Danger : Sea Moon ( if he can bear the weight of expectation) 3.40 : It might be a Group 1 race but I cannot get enthused about it so.. No selection 4.15 : No real idea about this minefield of a race. Es Que Love looks to have as good a chance as any so is a rather tentative selection. Selection : Es Que Love 4.50: I like Barren Brook also though the price has contacted this morning after Hugh Taylor tipped it ! Eagles Peak does look to have a favourite's chance and is hard to dismiss but is too short for me so Ithoughtitwasover should run a good race and at a real big price Master of Arts is a horse with plenty of ability and might be worth a few pennies ew. Selections : Ithoughtitwasover/Barren Brook Dark Horse : Master of Arts ew Away from the minefields at York a few bits of info: Nottingham 1.50 Blanc De Chime is strongly fancied and the early 2/1 soon went though still best price is 13/8 with several bookies. Nottingham 4.35 Ninfea : ew at 16/1 Hereford 7.10 Whereveryougoigo – He’s in good order by all accounts and conditions should suit tonight. If he puts it all in he’d have a great e/w chance. Coral are only going 13/2 but is 10/1 in places. Good luck ! Chris
  2. Any tips/fancies here please. Worth reading is an excellent Day 1 preview from Matt Bisogno at Geegez.co.uk : http://www.geegeez.co.uk/york-ebor-meeting-2011-preview/?awt_l=OXG7k&awt_m=3bqCHdu1BSrxDVG
  3. And 500 stand it is ! 559/2 Carberry 272* McKenzie 229* An epic performance !
  4. 490 stand.............. still going
  5. 2.05. The likely favourite here is Golden Desert. He has what looks a good draw in 25 against the stands rail but more importantly he has Joseph Henry only 2 stalls away and that guarantees you plenty of pace on this side. However, Secret Witness is my main fancy here. He loves big field handicaps where he can get tucked away and he has stall 4 so I’m hoping there will be pace over the far side or better still they all come down the middle and he can get plenty of cover. My other fancy has stall 15 and can race up with the pace. He again has some creditable form in these big handicaps although his form is very in and out. I think this race could be tailormade for Everymanforhimself .Another horse I also like at a biggish price is Dubai Media who was out of her depth last time around. Selections : Secret Witness/Everymanforhimself/Dubai Media . 2.35 Verdant has been working very well in the headgear at home and if it does the trick today he’d have a good e/w chance. Sabotage doesn't seem to have been given any leeway by the handicapper but might just spring a surprise. Selection Verdant/Sabotage 3.10 Goodwood 3.10 Midday is In great order and will be very tough to beat today. At a bigger orice Principle Roll has been in great form and should run well. It’s a pity we haven’t got 8 runners as she’d be a good e/w price. Selections Midday Danger Principle Roll . 3.45 The Stewards Cup is again full of old favourites I’m going plump for Tiddliwinks. He didn’t do his handicap mark any favours when running 3rd in a Group 3 but his last run is best forgotten as his jockey lost his stirrups. He is capable of winning a Group race and should well. Lots of dangers, in particular Macs Power who ran a cracker from the wrong side at Ascot,. My 2nd selection is going to be Docofthebay. He is due a change of luck in these big field handicaps as he has been running creditably for most of the season although mainly at 7f. However he showed he can cut it over 6f when a staying on 3rd to Pastoral Player at Newmarket. At a very big price I fancy Brave Prospector might get involved. Selections Tiddliwinks /Docofthebay/Brave Prospector Big Danger Mac's Power 4.20 Nawwaar has improved a lot and the step up in trip should suit. He’s a nice sort and should run a good race today.Mickdaamn has come on a ton for his debut run and a big run is expected on Saturday. Selections Nawaar/Mickdaamn 4.55 Pretty clueless here but Es Que Love is a horse I like and looks to have a decent ew chance at least. Safari Storm is open to improvement and should go well. Selection Es Que Love/Safari Storm 5.35 Pretty clueless here as well ! Guest Book is vying for favouritism and if he appreciates the step up in trip looks a lively contender. The consistent Moynahan looks likely to be involved and is my 2nd pick. Selections: Guest Book/Moynahan As always the very best of luck !
  6. Thanks Hatch, better to be lucky than good when it comes to these big meetings !
  7. Goodwood 2.00 Redwood seems sure to go well but 5/2-11/4 is short enough. Of the others Jukebox Jury looks a smart performer and may well run into a place at least. So : Redwood/Jukebox Jury Goodwood 2.35 Western Aristocrat – He’s been disappointing so far but has worked well in the headgear at home and this could do the trick today.. Hiowever, is another short priced favourite, As an alternative Tazahum has solid form and should be in the mix. So Western Aristocrat/Tazahun Goodwood 3.103.10 - Goodwood:The Rectifier./ Mr David./Boom and Bust . Many people will have Green Destiny down as one of their bankers of the meeting. He is well drawn, highly progressive and ahead of the handicapper on official figures. He doesn't lack pace so the drop back to a mile shouldn't pose a problem and it's hard to find many negatives in this winner of four of his six outings to date. Come 3.20 this afternoon his price of around 5/2 may prove to be a steal but, at this moment in time, in a field of this quality and size it looks a bit skinny. Being confident about anything beating him however is not easy so small e/w stakes on a few bigger priced rivals is the preferred option. The Rectifier has been placed in six of his twelve starts, winning twice, but most of those races have been single figure fields where his front running tactics are more suited. He faces a much harder task in a field of 20 but he could be up to the task. . Mr David was good enough to take his place in the Group Two Gimcrack as a Juvenile and he wasn't disgraced, finishing just behind Monsieur Chevalier. He has obviously had his problems since then but a change of stables over the Winter saw him produce much more encourage on his second start for his new yard last time out in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket. He made up some good late headway to finish fourth, suggesting that the step back up to a mile could suit. Having only had the one previous outing over a mile there could be more to come. If there is, he is handicapped to run well, being nine pounds below his initial assessment last September. I also like the look of Boom and Bust which is another horse around the 18/1 mark So The Rectfiier/Mr David/ Boom and Bust Goodwood 3.45 Harbour Watch – He has done nothing wrong so far and owners think awful lot of him, but he still has a lot to prove. If he’s as good as they reckon he is though he should complete the hat-trick today.. However, 5/6 is no price at all, I'm not really convinced by any of the others but Saigon may be open to improvement. So Harbour Watch/Saigon Goodwood 4.20 Holy frijolies, how do you find the winner of this ! ? I'm hardly going to try but put up Lord of the Shadows and simply because I must due to the name Poetic Dancer ! So : Lord of the Shadows/Poetic Dancer Goodwood 4.50 Not in the least any easier than the previous race ! Rhythm Of Light has a tough ask but she’s apparently in good order and wouldn’t be without an e/w chance if things dropped right. Memory – She seems to have fallen out of love with the game a little, but she has bags of ability. If she decides to race today there’s no doubt she could make her presence felt and is a big price so may be worth the risk. So: Rhythm of Light/Memory Goodwood 5.25 On to the last and still no respite, the only good thing is that there are "only" 11 horses to pick from !What looks almost guaranteed is that this race will be run at a searching pace. That will suit a closer like Jamesway if the trailblazers come back to those held up from off the pace. He has been running better than his form figures suggest and, although he is not a horse who finds winning easy, he has performed well against his elders this season and a return to his own age group could see him get his head back in front. The assessor is obviously wary of his ability because he is not showing him much slack. Jamesway does have his quirks and it was a bit concerning to see him not showing much interest last time out. He will need to put that behind him but, at his current price, he looks worth the risk. The stable are yet to get off the mark at this Festival but they have had a number run well and the selection is by far the best chance of two entries today. Quality Art should appreciate the ground and the trip and looks to have a decent chance. At a slighly bigger price Bold Bidder has had 2 poor runs but has previously showed decent form and wears blinkers today. So: Jamesway/ Quality Art/Bold Bidder Good luck all !
  8. Today's ever more tentative selections, might do the placepot as I seem ok at finding placed horses this week ! Goodwood 2.15 Of course a N/R was the most predictable thing of the day with only 15 now running.. Boogie Shoes – Conditions should suit today. He’s been working well and if he settles he would have a decent e/w chance. Throw in possible favourite Fulgur who must at least be a good bet to finish in the 1st 3 and that's 2 v the field. So : Boogie Shoes/Fulgur Goodwood 2.45 This is such a tricky race especially with the talented but very inconsistent Kingsgate Native in the field. If he is on song will be tough to beat but it is a big IF !! However, I'm going with him and at a much bigger price Golden Destiny even though will she will need to improve on previous form, speculative! So Kingsgate Native/Golden Destiny Goodwood 3.15 Opinion Poll – In great order but would ideally want a little rain. If the ground were a little easier I'd be more confident of a big run, but he still should run a big race. As an alternative Manighar looks to have a good chance but I'm going with the very tough and consistent Red Cadeaux. Electrolyser finally gets to wear headgear ( cheekpieces) which he seems to have needed for some time So: Opinion Poll/Red Cadeaux/Electrolyser Goodwood 3.45 Wild Coco – She is still improving and is really flying at home. The step up in trip is sure to suit and she’d have to have a big chance today. Is a short price so as an ew alternative I'm going for Meeznah, 2nd to Wild Coco last time out. So: Wild Coco/Meeznah Goodwood 4.20 Viola Da Gamba – She has improved for her first run and should show up much better today. Working very well and would have an e/w chance in this from a good draw.Santarini and Gifted Girl head the market but in what is yet another very trappy race but Perfect Delight will surely benefit from having raced previously so gets the dreaded vote as my 2nd selection. So Viola Da Gamba/Perfect Delight Goodwood 4.55 Tuscania – Haves’t been dealt the best of draws but she has come on a lot since her last run and should go well. I think Dimension will go well but a bigger price I'm opting for the Hannon trained Casual Glimpse. So: Tuscania/Casual Glimpse Danger Dimension Goodwood 5.25 Kinyras – He’s a bit of a monkey and has his own ideas about things, but he’d been doing some good work at home and if he decides to put it all in today he would have a solid e/w chance. Reflect, another Hannon horse must have at least ew claims. So Kinyras/Reflect Good luck and lots of it !
  9. This looks to be an extremely tricky day but a few thoughts/tentative selection: 2.00 Though My Arch would ideally probably prefer slightly softer ground the step up in trip should be a positive. Has never run at Goodwood but has run on similar tracks. Seaside Sizzler looks a big price at around 20/1. Though he's only won on the A/W there looks to be no reason why he shouldn't go well. So My Arch/Seaside Sizzler 2.35 Red Duke looks to be the one to beat, no great price but not a race I can get enthused about. So, tentative selection Red Duke 3.10 I want Frankel to win but Canford Cliffs looks to me at least worthy of being around the same price. Toss a coin... So: No selection 3.45 At least 4 horses vying for favouritism, without a great deal of confidence I'm opting for Halifax and Arch Fire. Greyfriars Drummer also makes some appeal at a bigger price. So : Halifax/Arch Fire/Greyfriars Drummer 4.20 Nigh on impossible but at decent prices I'd have to opt for Deduction and Ice Missile if my arm was twisted with Rakasa another which looks at least to have ew chances. So: Deduction/ Ice Missile/Rakasa 4.55 And so, as if things aren't bad enough, we get this stinker of a race ! Pretty much anything could win, maybe Zenella or Smarty Socks will ( unlikely ! ) So Zenella/Smarty Socks 5.30 Now it just gets totally absurd, let us end the day with a race where only the very lucky will find the winner. It surely isn't going to be me even with 3 picks in Totheendoftheearth, Miss Aix and Kens Girl. So: Totheendoftheearth/ Miss Aix/ Kens Girl The very best of luck to anyone actually having a wager today.
  10. Few extra selections entered !
  11. Not backing anything but some early thoughts for what they are worth ! I will probably return later and change my mind about these selections... 2.00 Bet365 Handicap Two horses stand out on trends here, Forte Dei Marmi. It’s won at the course, it’s won at the distance. The other unfortunately is Kings Gambit, also the name of one of my favourite chess openings:) Both are backable ew. So: It's Forte Dei Marmi and Kings Gambit for me. 2.35 Gordon Stakes It’s difficult to see past Fiorente .Beaten by 5 lengths at Royal Ascot but Ryan Moore took him too wide and thereafter he was never likely to win but did well to finish 2nd. At around even money is too short, Hunters Light looks a decent ew chance. So: It's Fiorente and Hunters Light in this one. 3.10 Lennox Stakes The 7f and conditions of this race look tailor made for Strong Suit though it's a really trappy race I think with the likes of the ultra consistent Delegator to deal with.much hotter race this time around. The 3yo Hannon horse Libranno should also appreciate this 7f and has won on the course before. So : It is Strong Suit and Libranno 3.45 Molecomb Stakes Richard Hannon has taken this race for both of the last 2 years and his Crown Dependency will surely be popular but he won his maiden over 6f and the drop back to 5f at Royal Ascot certainly didn’t seem to work out for him as he was doing all his best work late on. Miss Work Of Art looked really smart at the start of the season but ran a stinker at the Newmarket July meeting lthough the 6f might have proved too so a return to 5f might see a different horse. At around 14/1 she’s worth another chance as an each way investment. At present it is just Miss Work of Art here though a few others interest me and merit a further look. So, for now it is Miss Work of Art. 4.20 EBF Assertive Maiden Stakes Still deciding if I fancy anything in this race with so many newcomers, I tend to avoid these races! I will post a selection for the hell of it later ! 4.50 Poker at Bet 365 Handicap I do like the look of the lightly raced Guest Book here with the excellent De Sousa on board. The Johnston yard have a very good record here. So for now : Guest Book 5.25 Bet 365 Handicap Yep, this surely is a nigh on impossible race to predict with nearly every horse the same price it seems !! But my pin has landed on the unfortunate La Fortunata and Judge and Jury. Good luck all and lots of it !
  12. Some good news, Dimi took 6 wickets off 10 overs for the 2nd X1 v Northants 2nd X1. 2 in the 1st innings off 2 overs and 4 off 8 overs in the 2nd if I read the report right ! http://www.rosebowlplc.com/news/hampshire-2xi-v-northamptonshire-2xi-friendly-report He also made 50 in Hants 1st innings. Kabir Ali took 4 wickets and Tomlinson also returned. Howell 99* and Ravenscroft 66 ensured Hants won with some ease.
  13. Actually it was a very good knock from Vince, showing the potential we know he has. If Myburgh can maintain his discipline then ( in theory at least !) the batting line up shouldn't be at all bad. Adams and Dawson are clearly playing well and McKenzie is one player who will apply himself and he arrived here off the back of an excellent season in South Africa. If Lumb returns I wonder if he might replace Ervine who is clearly struggling at present though he is still a very good player who may just need a few games for the 2nd X1 or a break to work on his batting. Cork was actually our most economical bowler by some way with 2/76 off 35.1 overs so I'm not writing him off just yet. It is hard to explain the performances though, the trip to the West Indies was a little odd though especially playing a number of 20/20 games. I guess, as ever, we cannot have Hants doing well when Saints are on a high, just doesn't happen !
  14. Ditto, I have met fans from many different clubs in and around Watford, usually on their way to Wembley. I have yet to meet even one who even mildly dislikes Saints !
  15. Ah, my memory playing tricks ! Could have sworn Bally actually took the pen but you are right, at least Bally did win the penalty so there was some reason why, as above, I remembered him being involved !
  16. Yep, we won 2-1 at Luton with a very late Bally penalty, think Peach was injured/suspended. Now a late 2-1 away win, has that not happened recently !!
  17. That is about to change
  18. That was essentially it I believe though even getting promoted did not stop the Spuds yobs tearing down fences at the Archers Road end. My feeling being at the game was it was more that Saints did not want to win purely in light of possible, nay inevitable violence. The fact is though that over the course of the season Saints drew every game v Bolton, Spurs and Brighton, a win for Brighton in one game v us would have course put a different perspective on things, they didn't manage it. Rather bizarre about the Orient game and the wall collapsing, could have been nasty and was simply a result of their shabby ground not being able to cope ! I do also remember the 1965/66 promotion season albeit I was not allowed to go to any away games, I did see all the home games and clearly remember my very happy Dad returning home in the small hours after the draw at Orient which again essentially clinched promotion !! ( think we needed to avoid losing 6-0 at Man City, it was 0-0.) Happy Days:D
  19. A sprained ankle is actually damage to the ligaments so that was always going to be the case ! What matters mainly is whether there is any actual rupture of the ligaments. Either way it is very painful, bruising is likely to extend for some way and the degree of bruising often indicates how bad the damage is. Main thing we need to know therefore is how bad the ligament damage is.
  20. So Bristol Rovers without top scorer Will Hoskins and another striker, Rene Howe, also out.
  21. Bristol Rovers: Logan, Senda, Anthony, Coles, Tunnicliffe, Campbell, Lines, Pell, Hughes, Williams, Kuffour. Subs: Green, McCracken, Sawyer, Lambe, Kalala, Powell, Harrison.
  22. Subs : Bialkowski, Richardson, Seaborne, Gobern, Chaplow, Connolly and N'Guessan
  23. To be honest by no means a weak midfield ! Given no AOC, Morgan or Lallana we are lucky to have strength in depth.
  24. 4-4-2. Davis. Butterfield, Fonte, Jaidi, Dickson. Guly, Stephens, Hammond©, Forte. Barnard, Lambert.
  25. Lunch : Notts 85/3, De Wet bowls Hales for 20. All 3 wickets clean bowled which seems to be the best option !!
