  1. One of my favouritist Manga fillums. That and Legend of the Overfiend.... Anyway, back on topic: Iain Banks; A Song Of Stone Kazuo Ishiguro; Never Let Me Go.

    Saddest songs

Oh yes.... And another, 'cos I listened to it yesterday: Lamb; Gorecki.
  3. A couple that immediately came to mind are: The Black Cloud by Fred Hoyle (yes, Fred Hoyle the astronomer who first postulated the Big Bang theory (I think....)); and The Death Of Grass by John Christopher. (No, not the Mary Jane type of grass.) Or there's always John Wyndham, Day of the Triffids etc.
  4. If I remember Heaney came off the bench and was a major contributor in this game. Beating the Mancs for 3 years on the trot (at home), 3-1 in 95, 6-3 in 96 and 1-0 in 97 was a great hat trick of wins. But I remember the cheer that went round the ground when Grobbelaar saved a Shearer pen in his (Bruce's) first game for us. But for me the last league game at the Dell will be one I'll always remember. Beating Arsenal and that stunning last minute goal from MLT to clinch it. If you wrote that match into a script for a film people would rubbish it for being too unbelievable.

    Antichrist....

Will be released on 24th July. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0870984/news Apparently 4 people fainted at the screening at Cannes on account of the very explicit violence in it.... It got a mixed reception at Cannes but Charlotte Gainsborough walked away with best actress. I see a Harbour Lights late night on the cards....
  6. Denzil; Pub.
  7. Put your Guardian down Hamster!!!! I grew up with the Specials, Clash, Joy Division, Ruts etc., but I don't remember me or any of my mates breaking into anyones house. and things were pretty bleak then too. We even had the [diminishing] threat of Mutually Assured Destruction hanging over our heads!!!!
  8. Rats ****s, Adobe SVG Viewer 3 doesn't work in Firefox. I'll have to fire up IE ****shudder****
  9. I'm sure they'd still be able to claim their E2E/Job Seekers.
  10. Me and the spouse were thinking of making a long weekend of it. Watch the footy and then spend the rest of the weekend wandering around the lakes and stuff. Glad this match is in September and not on a Tuesday in January.
  11. What about saying 'haitch' instead of 'aitch'?
  12. If you're thinking the worst and you're worried about your wife and kids then you go in tooled up!!!! Even things up a bit, a cricket bat/golf club/chair/wooden kendo sword is a great equaliser!!!! My Grandad used to keep a length of hosepipe with a lump of lead stuck in the end to use as a cosh if anyone tried to break in his place. He used it once over the back of some idiots head trying to climb in one of his windows. Thought he'd better 'phone the police 'cos he knocked the f***er out and he bled all over his wall and carpet. Guess what happened? Nothing. Bloke came to and staggered off, police basically said he got what he deserved.
  13. Thanks Jilly, just had a look. What a couple of spoons nicking a bike like that!!!! I thought mine would be conspicuous (especially as I have a sneaky feeling they may have bent the crossbar getting the lock off....) They really aren't the brightest.
  14. But it is hilarious. If I have to use the car to pick my nipper up from school I park well out of the way and take a minute to walk down the road. The Mums all try and park around the gate that the kids come out of like iron filings around a magnet (insert your own preferred simile....). It's false time keeping; by the time they've managed to manoeuvre their way out of the melee they've helped create me and nip are at home watching Spongebob.
  15. The law says that you are entitled to use reasonable force. Now, I have a house with 2 teenage girls in it, a little boy and of course the spouse. If I find someone in the house I would equate reasonable force as any means available to me to protect them from him or her. So I'll try and put the **** on his (or her) ar5e by any means available to me. That's reasonable. If I carried on smacking him when he was down, that would be unreasonable. I think the law is fairly woolly on this point and usually finds in favour of the homeowner. Unless of course they've offed the intruder and are caught trying to get rid of the evidence by putting them through a log chipper or feeding them to pigs. PS Well done Frank!!!!
  16. Maybe they've found my bike....
  17. Tbh the lock was about 10 years old. And they twisted it off with a metal rod??!!!! Surely the torque involved would have bent the frame....
  18. Cheers Baj, I'd only managed to get one scratch on it so far, hadn't even come off it yet....
  19. Just had my bike nicked from Millbrook. Whoever did it must have come tooled up 'cos they cut through a Magnum bike lock, which I thought was supposed to be indestructible. Oh well.... Anyway, it's a Cube Acid, 18" aluminum frame, Rock Shox Dart 3 forks, Stroker Ryde hydraulic brakes, has Shimano PD-A530 pedals (SPD on one side of the pedal, normal cage on the other), Topeak Defender mudguards (although the idiots broke the front one getting it out) and it also had a bracket on the front for an Exposure Race light. If you see it it's mine....lousy pic below:
  20. Not really an office prank, but someone once put a log (yes, one of those logs....) in the loop of fabric that hangs underneath the roller towel in the blokes bogs at a place I used to work at. I want to know how he managed to get his ar5e up that high.....
  21. Yeah, heard this news on TalkSport coming back from golf. Likewise, I too found her very attractive when I was a nipper and Charlie's Angels was on all the time.... RIP indeed.
  22. Is it me or did tonight's potato thread lack lack some of the urgency and thrill of last nights?
  23. "Learning to Buy" Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (Sorry....) "Cue Fanfare" Prefab Sprout "The Hurting Business" Chuck Prophet "I Can't Stand It" The Specials "In A Rut" The Ruts "Wise Up" Aimee Mann "Where To Go From Here" Teddy Thompson
