+1 There's not another writer I can think of who can capture such dynamism of emotion in such spare language. I've been reading some of his short stories recently, which is a discipline he excels in. An Eng Lit teacher friend of mine was telling me recently that he's a "boy's writer", as if that's somehow detrimental or exclusive. I think his face-on approach to "masculine" attitudes that other writers efface makes him essential reading for women. Not that I'm trying to start some kind of war of the sexes argument here; understanding is key.

I listened to it. I liked some of the songs (Mogwai, Arab Strab, Sonic Youth, Sufjan Stevens) but not the others. I voted 5.

I'm sorry, perhaps I failed to understand the point. Having failed to understand the point, perhaps I should keep quiet. No... no, on second thought, perhaps I'll just keep hammering on at the same theme with a po-face and a mind-freezing lack of self-awareness. Yes, that seems like the better option.

Yep, you got to the heart of the matter.

The worst one is this comedy-ska (the worst genre) cover of Stairway To Heaven

+1, some fantastic scores. So good, it was stolen wholesale for the Lord of the Rings films... My favourites are... Three Colours: Blue - A film about a woman coming to terms with the death of her husband, who was a composer, so the soundtrack becomes an integral part of the narrative and is beautiful. Dutch Harbor - A documentary about an Alaskan fishing town, the soundtrack was initially improvised live at every showing by a band calling themselves Boxhead Ensemble, featuring people like Jim O'Rourke, David Grubbs and Will Oldham. The released OST and DVD feature one of those improvised takes. Really mesmerically desolate, all slow guitar and scraped strings.

Yeah! Have you heard Remnant Psyche? One of Morgan (out of the Joustas)'s projects. Also: Science of Eight Limbs JayetAl Mel Gibson & Sugartits Spod Yaaard! Pete Lyons

When I did a mix someone voted it a 1. When I find out who it was I'm going to make sure that Baj bans them from the site along with everyone else who doesn't share my taste in music or humour. While I'm at it I will insist he promote all the racists and homophobes in The Lounge to mod status. Come on Baj, grow some balls!

Me, basically.

Oo crikey, how did I forget that? And the other one, probably the best of all, is Grave of the Fireflies, the Japanese animation. In fact that's definitely the best one.
-
Chiefly because I haven't seen any of those...

The problem is that after those 20 minutes it gets all mawkish and dull. Band of Brothers makes a much more satisfying watch IMO. Downfall Ice Cold In Alex The Pianist The Thin Red Line Those are my favourites.

You reckon? A couple of listens in now and it's definitely growing on me. I'd been hoping for some Notwist-y pop like Yorke's solo record and the happier In Rainbows. But this is altogether darker, with a kind of lost-in-the-woods feel, little ghostly choral whispers and slight sounds on the edge of emptiness.

Nice one, School-de-Mort. You're welcome in my home anytime.

Still stuck in my sweaty Youth hole. Murray Street atm.

But you never get round to me...

And now Sister. I'm doing them in order.* * The Sonic Youth albums, not my siblings.

Having a Sonic Youth afternoon... Sonic Youth Confusion is Sex Bad Moon Rising Evol

I know that this is a risky question

I have, yes. And after a tense interlude of tetchy badinage, they were both bent bandy and at it like CUTLERY! If they weren't the same man before, they most certainly are now. -

I wish I knew how to log on as Deppo like the rest of you -
Hmm, a few I really like at the beginning (Beirut, Bon Iver, Low Anthem) and a couple near the end (The Beat, Killing Joke). But the indie stuff in between leaves me rather cold, I'm afraid.
