I can't see how that equates to us being a shambles or a laughing stock. If their chairman wants blather and squinny to the press all day then let him. A deal will be done or it won't be, he's the one who looks like a tit at the moment. Seems like all his statements end with a confession that he doesn't know what's going on and hasn't spoken to his manager.

No he won't. One more test match before the Ashes? Not the time to experiment with a new opener, time to accept that England have had a sh1t day and move on. If they were going to send him back to his County they would have done it for this match and tried Trott at the top. It's much too late for that now. The same goes for KP. Just reading Troubles, by JG Farrell, the book that won that 'Lost Booker' award. It really is excellent and I can't wait to dig up the rest of his work. If you've ever raised a smile at Evelyn Waugh or Kingsley Amis then you'll know the kind of humour to expect, but this is tied to an entirely more pointed, focussed social commentary than those two.
