  1. As I see it the annuity is effectively insurance against living for a long time. Does anybody really fancy living their retirement years watching your savings slowly (hopefully slowly) decline and thinking "right, I have enough to last me another [8] years so need to die before then or live the last years of my life in poverty".
  2. Yep. Under the current rules it is common (or at least it was back in my training days when I audited a lot of pension schemes), to take the maximum cash allowance and only take the minimum annuity. I suspect that you and Lord D are right and that many people will just take the cash. I'd have the same concern regarding them running out of money, however as a matter of principle I believe that people should be able to choose how to spend their own money. If they p1ss it up the wall and then find that they subsequently struggle then they will have to live with it. I will object to paying more tax to bail them out though. (For the avoidance of doubt and BTF's morals this is different to people who are struggling because they never had the opportunity to have a reasonable pension in the first place - it is quite right that I am taxed more to help these people and I'm happy to be).
  3. As I understand it the most important change is that rather than being £x per working parent, the scheme now funds £2,000 per child. For one child households then the change won't make much difference but if you have 2 or 3 then it becomes quite significant. I haven't yet had the opportunity to properly read up on this yet though so happy to be corrected if I have got the wrong end of the stick.
  4. How many football league clubs were actually in the running for P*mpey's South West Regional Award?
  5. Ha ha. Am I the only one who reads this as "None of the BM's are willing to have extra meetings but they each need to be able to claim that they are (and it is therefore the others' fault), in order to avoid the vengeance of the Bestest ™."
  6. Lol. I don't think preparing healthy budgets is the issue... It's achieving them which is (and always has been), the problem! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Does anybody have any experience of gamersgate? They've been recommended to me as an alternative to steam (without the DRM) but having never heard of them before I'm a little sceptical. I'm not looking to start a steam is good/bad debate, just curious about what looks like a reasonably cheap alternative, albeit with a much more limited game selection. 8. Lol indeed. I notice that when talking about other players who were captain he says that he would have had more caps as captain if he had had the PR machine behind him. Pause... then remember the race bit which is necessary to get the press attention for the book.
  9. Hang on. Do you receive 25% more for letting to social housing tenants that you would be able to get on the private market? Seems crazy that they are prepared to pay this premium if true or am I misunderstanding? This may have been covered already in this thread but as a late joiner I haven't seen it.
  10. Not sure if #factless is being sarcastic and "witty" or serious. If this were tweeted by anybody else I'd assume it was a gag but...
  11. Agree wholeheartedly with this. The cost of housing (both to rent and to purchase) has become ridiculously high and needs to be addressed. People (and politicians) can come up with as many quick fix schemes as they like, however the only option that will deal with the problem long term is to build more houses. It used to be the case that political parties went into election campaigns pledging to build X number of new homes. Sadly all recent governments have neglected this and the younger generations in particular are now paying the price. The current situation is lose/lose. It isn't fair on tax payers struggling to fund their own accommodation that they also have to fork out via taxes to house those on benefits but then what is the alternative? Kick everybody on benefits out of London and make them live in tents in Southsea? As for the original post and the Mirror article... is another way of looking at it that a number of conservative politicians are looking to reduce housing benefit payments for the benefit of the tax payer as a whole - despite the negative impact that such a reduction will have on their personal incomes? Its just a shame that nobody is proposing to bring the benefit bill down by implementing a long term policy to arrest/reduce the rise on housing costs as a whole and that short term fudges which won't actually help anybody are the order of the day.
  12. When is this released? I don't seem to have it yet if it already has been... Which Saints players are changed and how?
  13. Lol, who is guessing? I based my statement on the receivers' report. He appears to be basing his statements upon investigations and discussions with you. As well as listing 3 individual cases, he highlights that you told him that you had spent 60% of you time over the preceding three years dealing with litigation. I don't have the report in front of me any more but IIRC it also highlights that even prior to the litigation the Company was already in a weak position, having lost £1.9 million in the previous 3 years. I see you have since formed a new company with the exact same name as the old one. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Who would have guessed that failure was attributed to a number of litigations.
  15. Are two of the deleted letters the same? If so it doesn't look pretty.
  16. It was just a way for a bunch of investors who did not have/did not want to invest enough on their own to raise cheap finance with no servicing prior to a sale. The only real cost of the funding is that they need to give away a minority of seats on the board. Not a big deal if it's a minority and you can influence who is selected for the seats anyway. 18. A few weeks back, having heard flappy bird mentioned a few times but knowing nothing else about it, I downloaded flappy bird. It lasted less than 2 minutes on the ipad before it was deleted. It takes all sorts to make a world but how people can become obsessed with games like this (not saying that this applies to you Ess), is beyond me. Gaming for 4 year olds and mentally challenged adults IMO
  19. Which site is this from? I really wish they would allow new registrations to POL.
  20. True... unless you are so far off budget already that long term planning has to go out of the window because you're too busy fighting fires.
  21. Don't worry I'm sure they put relegation wage drop clauses in all the player contracts to mitigate the impact. Unless they were so sure that they were nailed on for promotion that they didn't bother with relegation clauses... Oops!!!
  22. 200 copies x £4 = £800. So only enough to buy 80% of 1 share... If (IF) they all sell.
  23. And to think in September articles like this were being published http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24046043 Oh well.
  24. I don't think there should be more than 1 current player on the banner. The day that Rickie is sold or is no longer part of the first team then look at updating it. Until then leave well alone.
