He suffered from the same problem Pelle has we only have one proper centre forward in the team meaning they both have/had to play every game. Last season if we had had a second CF Pelle could have been rested when his form went to pieces. Pelle's going to be ****ed again this season unless we decided to change our style. Don't think we are in the market for another proper CF though I guess Jrod might work up front on his own.

Don't know what are Napoli's finances like?

Koeman said after the Clasie signing that we weren't interested in anymore of Feyenoord's players. http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/southampton-boss-koeman-feyenoord-have-had-enough-money-out-of-us-4087566

Oh come on don't ruin Turkish's MO. This is how he gets his kicks in life applying half a dozen posters opinion to the entire Saints fanbase how else can he feel smug and superior?

I was sat next to them (block 1/2) and they made more than 20 minutes of noise during the players warm up. They were going at it hard in the first half until Pelle's goal knocked the wind out of them and picked up again about 15 minutes in the second half until the end of the game. Their team might be bang average but their fans were very decent.

Pelle has scored 102 competitive club goals in his senior career since 2003 most in the Dutch league (not that high a standard). Lambert scored a 114 in just 5 years at saints. Lambert has also scored a club career total of 236 goals (though admittedly he has had a senior career threes years longer than Pelle's). That would suggest Lambert is the better CF to me over their respective careers although as they've played mostly in different leagues it's hard to compare. I think assists would be an interesting stat to compare between the two players from my recollection Lambert was normally one of, if not our, highest assister in many of his seasons here not sure Pelle gets many assists. Having typed all that Pelle vs Lambert comparisons are a bit of a pointless argument.

Straight in with a brace won't take long to get the baggies fans onside if carries on like that.

Yep until tonight they'd won every game. Apparently the RTD boys have been hovering up tournament wins all over Europe this summer so the boys probably shouldn't feel to bad about losing to them.
-
Make that 7 down........ ouch
-
5 down saints boys getting a right beating in the final
-
Reckon we should bring the whole RTD academy home with us:smug:
-
3 down now the Ghana boys are bloody quick they're beating the saints boys to every back pass.
-
Not going well saints two down already against the boys from Ghana:( The right to dream boys look very good maybe we should set up an academy in Ghana?

Well in the stadium they were excellent really got behind their team loud as hell and waving flags. They had a quiet patch after the two goals in the first half but got going in the second half again.

Actually his yellow was a "one for the team" type. Targett went to press the same player as Davis and left a big gap in behind himself that the Arnhem players exploited. The Arnhem player was on his bike and Davis realised the break was on a pulled him back in a rather cynical tug to stop the counter attack. Other than that post is spot on I reckon.

No but if you were slow to start with you learn to play to your other strengths. Lambert has never been quick but still found away to an effective Centre forward getting a bit slower won't make much difference. Its players who relay on pace like Walcott and Townsend that struggle as their legs go.

I'm quite surprised how negative this thread is. We played some good football tonight, where comfortably in control (in the main) and scored three goals. Yes it wasn't a perfect performance but we had several new players out there tonight and it was the first competitive match of the season. Once the new players get their bearings and the Koeman brothers have tightened up the early season slackness I reckon the signs are promising for another good season. Personally really enjoyed tonight's game. Also a shout out to the Vitesse Fans apart from a quiet spell either side of half time, after going two goals down, I thought they were excellent (and noisy) in supporting their team.
