It was a good game and result but I think we should temper that with the fact that this was a very poor Tranmere side, when we play the Posh or Brighton off the pitch like that I'll start thinking about the championship again. As for the Prem we played the worse side in the prem last year and still lost 4-1 a poor prem side is still a lot better than a good league one side.

Good game best we've played this season. looks like 2-0 might be this seasons 3-1 Plus points for me where Hammond - thought he had his best game in a long time The passing was good - nice to see the ball actually going to a saints player after the last few weeks Lambert's goal - how happy did Rickie look (in fact his whole game looked better today) Guly - finally got to see him have a good run out and he looked good if he plays like that every week it would be great for saints Downside Why do a lot of our players still look to scared to shoot? The number of times players got into great postions to day and then tried another pass or another touch when just blasting the ball towards goal would have been the best option. We could have won by a cricket score today with a bit more confidence in front of goal. All in all very happy tonight

Breaking saints news - loan signing?? (Nicholas Bignall, from Reading)
doddisalegend replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
I'll hold judgement as I know nothing about the guy, at least the club are getting in some cover. I assume he's more of a bench option than a replacement for one of our strikers. I know Doble can't play this weekend but does anyone think he is going to make the step up to first team apperances? I would of thought giving our lack of options he might of made the bench at least by now. -
yeah agree with that think his pace would cause most CBs in this division problems.

Yes Wes seems to patronise a lot of people if there opinion doesn't match his though. Telling someone they're not allowed to post their opionion on a message board is frankly stupid, thats what message boards are for unless the new start message boards are for posting cold hard facts only now. Red and white didn't deal with it too well though insults don't really add much.
-
If it's proved he bottled someone in a brawl I think a fine from the club will be the least of his problems
-
That's all the practice he got selling every player that wasn't nailed down.
-
Not sure sports science recommends an early hours druken brawl as a way to improve a players game. I think Barney has been ruled out of this weekend game anyway.

Not sure now after saturday I was confident but we now only have one striker avaliable (lambert) who hasn't been playing great. Who knows what effect the whole Barnard saga has had on the team (especially if some of them were there on saturday as is rumoured). Plus Tranmere have had a litle boost coming off a draw with the leguae leaders thanks to a good second half on saturday.
-
Lambert put that one wide don't think the keeper got near it. You are right about the others though, but assuming that the same person does the match reports and misses out a few shots every match the point still holds that in general Pardews teams where getting more shots on target than Nigels have so far. A bit worrying that clubs OS can't get it's match stats right though.
-
Sorry are people only allowed to post their opinion if they get your permission first Wes?

Comparing the two match stats is interesting 1st match under Pardew http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10280~53938,00.html 2nd match under Adkins http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10280~51535,00.html Possession wise we had more under Adkins (54%) but only 3 shots on target (two of which were pens). We had less possession under Pardew (51%) but 8 shots on target. Bournemoth managed 2 shots in the first match ans 0 in the second. More interesting is Bompey commited 6 fouls and got no cards in the first match and commited 14 fouls and got four yellow and a red card in the second match (which might explain why they thought the ref was a little biased on saturday). We on the other hand got one card in both matches and committed about the same number of fouls 11 in the 1st match and 12 in the second match. what does it all mean? god knows. but basically the two managers performed pretty much the same against the same opposition with basically the same team. To hazard a guess I'd say Pardews way of playing was more attacking (he got more corners than Nigel too) resulting in more chances on goal but leaving us more exposed at the back (we didn't keep to many clean sheets last year). Nigels teams are more solid at the back but lacking punch up front (in fairness that might say more about our strikers at the moment than Nigel but I don't think so).

It would almost be funny if no saints fans turned up at all............... Having said that I'm sure we will have no problem selling out our allocation. I was hopping to get tickets for this one as its nice and close and taking the nipper to long distance away matches isn't great. I imagine he would find being frog marched through Bournemouth by the police very funny too.
-
So far he is doing ok nothing spectacular but he had steady the ship somewhat. I think he will do well for us once he gets in his stride, I'm still concerened about a lack of goals from open play from a team that last season where knocking them in for fun but our striker situation isn't helping that. I was very dissapointed to see AP go but Nigel seems to be a good replacement. Based on his first few matches I think we will have less off days with Nigel than we did with AP but I also think we will also have fewer of those big free scoring wins a lot more 1-0 nils as oppossed to 3-1s I think. Oh and I wish he wouldn't say "well listen" quite so much in interviews other than that so far I'm happy.
-
No no we can blame the whole season on Pardew. This isn't even a manger thing the players are grown adults they should be able to work out that going to a known trouble spot in the city centre after a home match to a local team might not be the brightest idea in the world the manager shouldn't have to spell it out for them.
-
We don't have any reserves anymore we're not even in a reserve league. We have the devolopment squad made up of kids but i'm not sure playing with them would help his confidence.
-
I think Barnard might be rested for a game or two under the circumstances. However playing Alex off Rickie might work they combined for a goal at the cup match against Bompey. I noticed we left Lambert up more on saturday but Lambert doesn't have the pace for counter attacking Chamberlain does though.
-
Wanye Thomas? some driving offence or other. Don't know if he was stopped by the police though or just caught on camera?
-
Carlisle have had the same issue with striker Gary Madine after he assualted a guy in a pub, they've decided to give him their full support. Apparently he scored a hatrick after his court apperance. I can't see Nigel and NC being so supportive TBH http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/carlisle_united/9045292.stm

I hear you as a married with 2.4 kids. All I can do is look back and remember when 21 year old women where obtainable and not just a object of my grubby fantasies:cry: I was always a guildhall tavern man back in my day or the vine ahh the old days.

Good time to go drinking in winchester University has just started the new term (70-30% split in favour of the ladies) lots of lonely 18-21 year old females in winchester right now.
-
you're right. I'm still dissapointed that players would put themselves in the postion were this could happen though. If they wanted to unwind have a few celebration drinks fine but the city centre after a local derby (I know couldn't think of a better word) when lots of ****ed off away fans would be isn't really using your head is it? why didn't they just go drinking some where like Winchester instead?
-
No he means the team that scored bucket loads of goals last season, won the JPT by a record 4-1 margin in the final, put five past three teams and put three past a lot more, outplayed and beat last years league champions, beat Ipswich in the FA cup and only lost eleven games in all competitions last season that team.
-
Right now I will believe it Lee what were you thinking? I can't see NC standing for this sort of behaviour among our players lee will go straight on the transfer list I would have thought unless he has a really good excuse. We really need to get a loan in quick now we can hardly play Lambert up front on his own given his current form. and what about the other players involved?
