Transfer policy - what kind of transfers can we expect?
MOSaint replied to ToreSF's topic in The Saints
While not revealing much about the budget here is a tweet from some guy who writes for the mirror that suggests where Saints might be looking. James Nursey @JamesNursey @dankiz1 Adkins was v keen on Hooper in January but apparently #Saintsfc Italian chairman Cortese fancies more targets from Europe now in PL -

Agbonlahor is quick but neither creates or scores goals so I would avoid, wouldn't be shocked if Sunderland tried to sign him. Martin O'Neill was the only manager to really get much out of him. Walcott isn't useless, but that's not really a discussion for a transfers thread. -

Curtis Davies would be a good signing, had a few injury problems at Villa that seemed to ruin his time there. But he played a full Championship season + those Europa league matches and was one of the best CBs in the league so those problems appear to be behind him. -

IMO Fox should be replaced, he'd be good backup and his delivery is top drawer but defensively I'm not convinced. God help us if Harding ever has to play. -
QPR's struggle had more to do with who the money was spent on and when it was spent rather than the fact that they spent the money.

Would be awful if Adkins gets the sack after what he's achieved the last two seasons. However, if there is something to Cortese looking to replace Adkins he should do it as soon as possible rather than waiting until the season has started. Pointless to let NA oversee pre-season games and transfers if he's not going to be the man in charge. Alan Nixon, who wrote article suggests it may be down to a difference in transfer strategy. Adkins wants to be sensible, but Cortese wants "sexy" and doubts NA can attract that sort of player

Alex Pearce just can't keep his mouth shut... -
Blackpool got what they deserved there, wasted several chances.

Blackpool need to get Bednar on, even if he's not much of a goal threat. Playing hoof ball with old midget Kevin Phillips as the target won't get them anywhere, Bednar at least stands a chance of holding it up and bringing the widemen into play.

Really? I would have gone for mass meltdowns, saying such overconfidence ensured certain defeat.

Also at 31 this is probably his last chance for a real payday. On the other hand if Norwich don't have to sell they can just say no and reject all bids, Holt isn't really at an age where he can afford to spend a season sulking and not trying in the hopes he may get his way. Could just be trying to get a better contract though. -

Same "agent" had the Pienaar thing 3 days or so before it started popping up elsewhere, also says said move depends on whether Modric stays. Same guy also claims we are in for McEachran on a season long loan. But these agent twitters should always be taken with a massive pinch of salt, -

Pienaar would be a great signing, but surely Everton bound. Then again Kenwright may play tightwad again and decide he doesn't want to spend the money. -

Looked decent at Millwall, don't really think he's ready for the PL or that Spurs would sell a promising 18 year old. -

Is Kenwyne Jones really a big name these days? Not really done it in the PL best goal haul being 10 and that was a few years ago now. -

Kightly will be firmly at home with Wolves now they're championship as that is his level. -
I don't see why Alex Pearce would go out of his way to wind up a saints fan, however Cortese gossip is always hard to believe as it does appear that he has made his fair share of enemies in his tenure. Could just be that one of those people has been mouthing off to players etc, time will tell either way. While on the subject of Cortese, one of those Agent accounts on twitter that may well be fake was asked by someone about Cortese and it replied. Pinch of salt obviously: @itk_agent: @cj_garrett one of the best chairmen in FL. ambitious and sensible @itk:agent: @cj_garrett Wants to be challenging for top 6 within 4 years. Bigger ground is a definite if still PL also said of our transfer targets this summer @itk_agent: @cj_garrett I expect saints to make sensible signings, not "big" ones

Dos Santos is a good shout, young and given how he is treated at Spurs would probably have a point to prove. Seems to be in an odd situation at Spurs though. Redknapp doesn't rate him much but every time a team tries to buy him Tottenham demand a large fee (relative to how much he is used). I think Sevilla wanted him in January but pulled out because tottenham asked for too much money. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2092336/Sevilla-quit-race-sign-Giovani-dos-Santos-Tottenham.html According to this article Spurs wanted 5.4m, which is quite a large sum for someone who is only given run outs in cup games. Scharner is another who could definitely do a job, steady PL quality player with lots of experience at that level. -

Harsh to judge Mutch and Redmond on one performance, especially one that comes at the end of a 60 odd game campaign for Birmingham. -
Rickie and Super Kelv for ENGLAND! Make it happen.
MOSaint replied to cider saint's topic in The Saints
Roy Hodgson isn't going to take players who played last season in the Championship to a major tournament. Shame in Rickie's case as Rooney aside England have a real lack of talent up front but, where he hasn't been able to show his ability at PL level just yet, he hasn't got a chance of a call up.
