  1. £1.50 in 1980 Archers Road terrrace, for nippers you could get in for 50p
  2. Oh boy, some people are going to come back to earth with a thud, starting against Newcastle ! 10th ? My arse !
  3. Exactly. Now back in the real world....
  4. According to Delldays, Fonte is fit. Excellent news, even if he doesn't go straight into the team !
  5. Can I have the same thing that you are on please ?
  6. Does that include Fonte ?
  7. I agree with what you say, but something made Lowe change his mind and the protest by the vocal few figures highly as it did split the board. Remarkably, 9 years later this murky part of SFC history is still to be revealed.
  8. A game of two halves me thinks.
  9. A very good and measured summary. There is a lot of truth in this. Hoddle was Lowe's first choice and also the players. Sturrock was a poor second and Lowe could never find it in him, to fully support Sturrock. So, was Lowe at fault for not sticking to his guns and appointing Hoddle ? Was he really thrown off course by the vocal minority or was it because of the split in the board ? Whatever, Lowe should have waited after the failure to re-appoint Hoddle and at least appointed a more suitable manager than Sturrock.
  10. Most fans were in favour of the return of Glenn Hoddle, yes.
  11. In that case he could well be playing for us in the future as we are just the type of team that will be 'yoyoing' between leagues.
  12. Can't seeing us getting anything from this game. A thumping 4-O win to the Scousers I'm afraid.
  13. The thing that intrigues me, and is to be fully explained, is to the extent the vocal minority had on Lowe pulling out of the appointment of Hoddle. I think there were a number of strands, the board taking fright, Lowe showing an uncharacteristic lack of determination and Glenn Hoddle himself showing concern. The tragedy was, that the vast majority of fans were all set to welcome Glenn back as they rather sensibly put the fortunes of the club before a personal vendetta.
  14. I am glad that this issue is back on the table. People say it is history now, true, but it is important that we understand our history if we are not to make similar mistakes.
  15. Despite what others say, it was the start of the slide. The team became factured and then the appointments became even worse. Sturrock was out of his depth from the start. The squad needed a revamp in 2004, but not a major one. Hoddle would have had the status to win the respect of the players currently there and he could have attracted new players. The hostility to Hoddle would have quickly melted away. In some respects the situation after the sacking of NA has some similarities in that the fans felt unrest about the decision, but if we get better results then the fans will support what is best for the club. I am sure this would have happened in 2004 had Hoddle been appointed as was intended. It is interesting that the vast majority of people are now coming round to my way of thinking. I suppose the passing of time allows a certain objectiveness on this issue. Still, I don't expect the vocal minority to ever admit to their reckless behaviour
  16. He was appointed instead of Hoddle a panic decision. Hoddle was always intended to be the manager, but certain members of the board took fright over a loud fan protest by a minority. Took the majority of fans by surprise, as most were happy for Hoddle to come back. Undoubtedly, it was a disaster and began the big slide.
  17. What an absolute belter ! It's like inviting someone around for dinner and then charging them for the ingredients. They have no class and deserve to be dissolved.
  18. Would bring in Shaw for Fox but not sure about Forren in for The Hoover.
  19. If you reply to this I will know that you are NOT ignoring me.
  20. We ****ed up on our appointment of manager in 2004. Hoddle WOULD have kept us up. The **** up was influenced by a vocal minority of fans.
  21. You were lucky someone was running the line. When I used to play park football we sometimes just had a referee. This was a thankless job and running the lining and calling 'offsides' was equally thankless. I did referee a few times but did not enjoy it, people call you all sorts of names and you are never right !
  22. True. have to agree with you on this one.
  23. It is normal to wait until the last hour of the last day to make vital signings in the summer transfer window...
  24. I would rather they ceased to exist tbh.
  25. Oh yes the little b******* ! enjoyed rubbing our noses in it ! I had it all the time from one loud mouthed ****, who I would love to return it now...but unfortunately he has moved away ! No, they deserve all the bad fortune that is coming their way.
