I would say that the Club priority is solvency over the long term. We have a cash reserve in case we get relegated which is very wise. The only trouble is, that it appears as lack of ambition in the short term. Basically, and I am not being cynical, finishing 6th or 17th is largely irrelevant as long as we stay up. I would say that this year looks in particular like a mighty gamble, but comforting to know that should we go down we can easily build a new team using relatively cheap buys plus the academy. We then of course sell on any academy success for a big profit and start the cycle again.

Man Utd v Saints Post Match Hmmmmm.....

That's how I remember it. However, there is a lot of 're-writing of history' as I have pointed out many times. -
I echo this very good post. I would say in defence of the Board that they are keeping money in reserve for the worst case scenario, relegation. That we do not do a QPR and can come back up comfortably aka the Norwich City way.

A very good post. Worrying times indeed. The Board surely must have considered the appointment of Puel very carefully, surely ? -
A very important game. A win will settle nerves. Anything less and we are in for a very tough season.

I am sure we are gambling on staying up but with the knowledge that if we go down we have more than enough to come straight back up. We have a sustainability policy that will not change.

You are right. Complacency is the biggest danger. We are sleepwalking to disaster if not careful. -

A good way of looking at it. If we go down, we will be well placed to come back up. Honestly think we will get relegated this season. -

it's all about staying above the bottom three this season. We are trying to do things on the cheap and I can see us getting caught out. -
Manure starting to dominate.
-
If we had a really good striker....
-
Any idea about the type of injury ?
-
Yes, and we have been saying that for the last 10 weeks.
-
Off with an injury. Not good.
-
You are absolutely right. It is not the games against the likes of Manure that will define our season but those of our rivals like Sunderland, Watford, Bournemouth and Hull.

Since 2001 the Dalek has had the courage to peak its mind. The Dalek has had the courage to tell it as it is. The Dalek is Supreme.

Actually, CB FRY is the worst culprit. he cannot stand the idea of anyone challenging or having a different opinion to himself. He sees himself as a demi God of this site !
-
It was a brilliant achievement and one that is largely forgotten. In the last 50 years Saints have spent 80% of that time in the top league. That is all that matters, so finishing 17th or even a few places above for the next 20 years would be enough for me.
-
Any chance we could sell JWP along with Clasie, Forster, Bertrand, Austin and VVD before the window closes ?
-
Apparently Clasie is also a transfer target. Why not Bertrand and Forster ?
-
Why would we want to put clubs off ? We are a 'selling club' that is our business priority.
-
I agree. I am just grateful that Saints are in the top league. However, imagine how it must feel to support Bournemouth after all those years in Leagues 3 & 4.
-
If we do get a few in, they are more likely to be young promising League 1 and 2 players. We can develop them and then sell them on for a profit.
-
Well lets see if the Board are prepared to do a deal on this one.
-
I am sure that the Board and many fans would find it more than acceptable to finish mid table or lower mid table. If the club makes a tidy profit then it is a good business model. SFC will not take chances on its sustainability and if the worst happens, we get relegated, we should be able to ride it out and build a new young team that we can sell on for a good profit. BTW, we will get relegated at some point, we are that sort of club. So, preparing fro this inevitable event is good planning.
