I was delighted until I read that Wotte has been asked to take charge. Just can't see things being any better. Hope it's a temporary thing. Either way I hope things improve, and fast.

I don't write on here much anymore, but I read a lot. And Alpine, you're getting worse and worse. You really are a first class nob. Spend more time trying to make your family happy instead of coming on here and being a miserable git. Jesus christ, if you're like this with your family, your wife will most certainly be cheating on you. And your kids will like him more than you.

You forgot he also played for us, therefore even having a link with us.....did ya see what I did there?

Great minds....

I brought my mum along for a rare away game for her and she's a nurse so would have helped me had she stopped laughing! 15 minutes before kickoff we were down by the goal and some woman got half knocked out by one of Paterson's stray shots and she ended up helping attend to her too....! First aid all round that day!

Haha did you see me go flying?! My whole kneecap is black and yellow from the bruising....surprisingly it didn't hurt after about 5 minutes - I think the cold numbed the pain!! I think it was the shoes I was wearing...I kept feeling my balance falling forward the whole game - I nearly went over a couple more times too!

Who's the geek in the Kingsland who brings his laptop and write little notes in a black notebook when the teams are announced?!

Just got back from the game......wonderful, wonderful performance. Gob-smacked. Might well have been different had we not cleared it off the line in the first minute or so, but after that we were different class and totally out played Reading. My ratings: Davis: 8, solid comign from crosses, did his best to waste time in the second half Didn't have a lot to do though really! James: 7, really pushed forward, especially in the first half, might have helped prevent their goal, he kinda slid in and missed a tackle, then they went on and scored. But really nullified Hunt, which is no mean feat. Cork: 8, very solid, mopped up well, made an amazing run in the second half, shame that McGoldrick curled it over the bar at the end of it. Perry: 9, brilliant. Some fantastic tackling, mopped up fantastically well behind Skacel, looked totally in control. My MOTM. Skacel: 7, looked strong, committed himself once or twice and got caught out and let Reading break into the space behind him, but Perry backed him up well, so it was all good. Lallana: 7, very skilful, some lovely touches, with a slightly better end product he'd be top-end premiership class. Schneiderlin: 8, worked hard, passed it well, played it simple, tackled well, always seemed to be in space to receive the ball. Surman: 8, another solid performance, he looks so much better in the middle, worked well in the middle with Morgan. Got forward really well in the first half. Wright-Phillips: 9, and I gave him a 9 not just for his 2 goals - he worked hard, stayed out wide and in space, thus giving us an outlet when we needed to clear the ball. Made some good runs and always looked dangerous. McGoldrick: 7, I couldn't quite tell whether we were playing 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1, as he and Robertson interchanged a lot and at times got forward together. Individually, I thought he did ok, finishing could have been more clinical. Played deeper, and displayed a good touch and some trickery. More of a team performance, which was good to see. Why does he never practise his shooting in the warm up when all the other strikers do? Robertson: 7, Played well in the first half, showed strength and a degree of pace, linked up well with the other forward players. Subs: Paterson: 7, Didn't really do much, made some good runs and helped keep the ball down the Reading end, which helped! Jan: 9, you've gotta give the guy credit. The team played wonderfully well, were first to everything, got themselves out of trouble by passing the ball, not hoofing. Here's hoping we play aggressively on Tuesday. Absolutely delighted, when we scored the first goal I went flying onto the floor in the row in front, hurt my knee, but I don't care. Wonderful day, and home within half an hour of leaving the ground. COYR!!

Having read through most of the posts on this thread, my final piece of advice is, don't listen to most of it!! "Keep your head still" etc, no no no no no!! Keep your head still is by far the worst tip ever, and the most used!! Your head should be allowed to move a bit away from the target in the backswing, and then it should be moving forward on the through swing. In essence, your head (which, in turn, controls your weight shift) should be moving in the direction you're swinging the club. If ya want to play like an amateur, take advice from an amateur!! Seek out a decent pro and get some lessons....it really is the ONLY way to improve your game. Hell, I play professionally, I got out to America last night to do PGA Tour qualifying, I can play, but I still need lessons!! Advice is only well and good if it's advice tailored to your specific needs. Hence why any advice I gave earlier in this thread was not golf swing specific - cuz I can't give advice on a golf swing that I haven't seen!! Which is why, head still, do this posture, this grip, etc etc won't help you much....unless that really is what you need to work on....who knows! Yes, good setup is crucial - actually, with a good setup, you can get away with a lot of swing flaws, but make sure a teaching pro puts you in a good setup in a lesson. Anyway, let me know if you need any help with your games guys!! I've had more golf lessons than you'll ever imagine, from some very good coaches over the years. I'm not really a teacher myself, I only play, but I'm a fountain of knowledge!! :-) Good luck to you all, and if you get a golf day arranged, I'd love to get involved in some way. Will

It's all about putting....I play professionally and I have played with some guys who simply cannot hit it...I mean, hitting all over the shop. But they hole everything, and still end up doing well. All you have to do is get it somewhere on or around the green in regulation, and with a hot putter you can score decent, no matter how you hit the ball. But practise your putting constructively. The two main drills Tiger Woods does for his putting is a) putting with his right hand only (makes you release the putter correctly), and b) putt between two tees (set the putter on the ground, and press a tee in the ground on either side of the putter head, with maybe 1/2 cm gap on either side. Hit putts, trying to make the putter work through the tees without hitting the tees with the putter head. It helps you hit the sweetspot of the putter, which is key) 2 other drills. Putt to the fringe of the practise green to work on your pace. Try to stop the ball right on the edge of the green. It's better to use the fringe and take the hole out of the equation because it makes you concentrate on what you should be concentrating on - distance control. Finally, putt to a tee. Hit 3 to 10 foot putts to a tee in the ground. If you do that for half an hour, the hole will look a lot bigger, and a lot easier to hit. When you go back to putting to a real hole, imagine a tee in the back of the hole, and focus on that. It'll make you focus more and give you a bigger margin of error. One final thought.....when you hold the putter, you must get your palms facing each other. All the best everyone. Flying back to America for the 2nd stage of PGA Tour Q School.....if anyone needs any more advice feel free to get in touch! Will

If you want to break 50, it's very simple. Anyone can break 50 if they manage their game right. Here's what you need to do: 1. Don't use your driver. Hit 3 wood or even an iron off the tee, even on long par 4's and par 5's. To break 50 you just need to keep the ball out of the junk and you're flying. 2. Pick the smallest target you can to aim at and really focus on it. Don't just try to hit the fairway....aim at the tip of a branch of a tree in the distance...something like that. Narrowing your focus down WILL make your misses less wild. 3. Putt, putt and putt some more. Putting is half the game. Even though you're only hitting it over a short distance, and don't seem so important, almost half your shots over the course of the round will be putts. Work entirely on pace of your putts. When practising, putt to the edges of the practise green, rather than to the holes. That'll help you with the pace. If you get the pace right, you'll 2 putt a lot more often - that'll be the key to breaking 50.
