Good effort by the lads, there's no point in over-analysing it in the end - we were beaten by superior fitness, pace and finishing - which is why they're premiership players, and we have league 1 players - that is the difference. The heart, effort and attitude was right today - i couldn't fault it, but we lacked that composure at the crucial time - everything seemed to fall to Lallana and Papa! O'hara might be a little **** - but he was the best player on the pitch in the 2nd half, without him and the pace of the attack they have nothing (and they're all on loan...) At least we have prospects with a bright future - it hurts like **** at the moment, but this will just be a hollow victory for them - you wait till we meet them in a year or so...the outcome will be totally different.

that is brilliant tractor!

i'm sure leeds said the same when they went to Old Trafford.

They just keep prolonging the inventible don't they? Ok - so they take £11m now...great, that may get them through for now...but then they get relegated, and they get no parachute payments (or not as much) - what then? Short-term fixes galore - although I guess it'll be much more fun to see them crash and burn in the FL. there's no one to help you out down there...

apparently he's still ''awaiting'' clearance from spurs

the southend game a few years back had an exciting buildup, but i guess looking back at it now, it was rubbish that we were even playing to scrape into the playoffs with that team.

Wow, he's in line for some stick. If that's the attitude others take, then it could be easy pickings for us - they won't know what's hit them. That’s the bonus for us - they have a lot of foreign players who really don't know about the rivalry, or couldn't care less (as it seems, from dindane). Although we haven't got lots of ''Southampton'' lads in our team, they are primarily British and understand what a rivalry means.

the gulf will not be that big, trust me - there will be little gulf visible on the day, the fa cup magic and the fact that it's a derby will put pay to that. Look, as someone else eluded to above - we pushed Birmingham to the end when we had a significantly weaker team - and they're miles better than portsmouth.

basically (my take on it) the judge agreed that they were illegally trading whilst insolvent. ...but they have been given 7 (working) days to produce financial documentation, on a) a secure/definite takeover or b) actually pay up the remaining HMRC. It was also confirmed that they owe more than Pompey claimed. Pompey said they only owe 7.5m...but the judge confirmed it is actually 11.5m! if they don't come up with the goods in 7 days, that really is it - the judge has done them in a favour in many ways and has already agreed they are insolvent. I feel though that this 7 days will give them a lifeline and will allow them to secure the takeover that they need. They'll be relegated..that's for sure, but they'll be ok after that IMO.
-
they've been given a lifeline...and i can't see them throwing this away. can see them being taken over by someone with money in the next week, who will pay off their debts and settle the HMRC - they'll go down, but that's as bad as it'll get now IMO.

It has been confirmed that portsmouth are insolvent....

hearing has been delayed.....

will sell out easily. take into account a potential walk up too.

sounds to me like the offer was the last throw of the dice for pompey, they've got no more to give...so now all they can hope for is that the judge is '' lenient'' - which going by how HMRC have acted so far, he won't be. how do we get refunds for sat.?

i don't know why people are suprised at how Thomas acted, that's his makeup - that's why he's not in our team every week. He's full of passion...but sometimes it boils over and he gets a bit silly, but it's something you have to accept with him.

i guess admin is the only way out now?

Ok Alan....Now pick the same starting line-up for all remaining games

agree tbh - it doesn't help us when Morgan goes missing in games, hammond does his best to lead...but you're right, we really need another ball playing/leading midfielder in there next to him. We've got the other players in the other positions to threaten anyone.....i think we're only 1..maybe 2 players off being a dominant team in this league. -
i think it was more down to him playing with Jaidi for the first time - he did defend well when he needed to IMO - kind of played in first gear, came across a bit casual at times (which maybe made him look a bit iffy to some)...but thats because he's too good for this level tbh.
-
after all that talk, they were complete ****e. If they were decent we'd have had a hairy last 10 mins tonight as we let them back in to the game....but they didn't have anything really, pretty poor.

I'd still put Puncheon in there, possibly for Antonio - who i agree, is an impact player. Papa/Barnard battling for the ST position. Papa did ok tonight, used his pace well - but didn't ever look 100% like he was going to score. -
Great night! Biggest cheer for ages at the final whistle - we're going to wembley!!! We started really well, quick, incisive and in their faces - we deservedly went 2 goals up. Papa's movement and pace was pulling their back 4 all over the shop and that let Lambert get through to score... the 2nd goal was fantastic, you won't ever see a better OG. Antonio over-ran it...keeper came to claim it, their player decided to also boot it and it rebounded off another of their defenders and into the net - who cares though! I thought after that it could be any score, because we were rampant...but we got to about 35-40mins and just took our foot of the gas totally, kind of went into ''cruise'' mode - which we can’t do very well. They got a goal back, which was lucky from their point of view, but also pretty poor defending from us. 2nd half they huffed and puffed, but they never created anything clear cut and I’d say we were quite comfortable, without ever pushing that hard ourselves (it turned very scrappy). 3rd goal probably flattered us slightly on the night, but it's a deserved win taking in both ties - but let's not underestimate Carlisle...we're going into this as red hot favorites now, which brings it's own pressures… ratings... Kelv - 7 - didn't have to do much tbf, his distribution was a bit iffy at times though Harding 7 - good to see him back, solid as you'd expect - but not as attacking as I’ve seen him in previous games. Jaidi - 7 - good to see him back as well, won most in the air...but tried at times to play a bit too much on the dock and got into trouble, but he's still one of our best CB's Fonte - 8 - untroubled, defends with ease - really like him, way too good for this level, clear to see. Thomo - 7 - If there's one thing you can be sure about with Thomas, is that he'll get up the ref's nose most games. He was solid though - wasn't tested too much tbf. Antonio - 6 - quite quiet in all honesty, he had a few runs at them and helped get the 2nd goal…but he wasn't as involved as he was for the first leg. Morgan - 6 - iffy IMO - when the game turned scrappy he lost it a bit, started giving the ball away and losing tackles etc - good decision to sub him for wotton. Hammond - 8 - fantastic surprise to see him back and he made a massive difference IMO. In their faces all game, didn't let their midfield settle and led as you'd expect him too. We've really missed him. Lallana - 8 - another good game from adam...first 30-35mins he was everywhere, they couldn't contain him. Nice to see him finish it off with a goal too. Lambert 8 - close to his best IMO - tired a bit towards the end, but they couldn't handle him in the first 30 mins, his clever forward play (along with papa) was creating openings time and time again. It was interesting to see him taking all the set pieces (corners etc) - he's got the ability to bend a fantastic ball, so we might as well utilize it from other situations. Papa - 8 - thought he played really well, ran his socks off and he gives us a dimension which I think we've lacked in some games - someone to run beyond the last defender, it makes a huge difference.
