Read this line... '' “There are players contracted to other clubs that I do feel would do well for Southampton. “Some of those I’ve put in tentative approaches to say ‘If there is a possible situation where a player might move on from your club I would be interested.’ “But I’m focusing very much on the market where there’s no transfer fee at the moment. '' Makes sense to snap up the best avaliable free's, rather than splashing the cash on a player who is possibly equal? he's doing it the right way round IMO.

Wally Downes would be a great appointment. He was one of the brains behind readings ''walk of the league'', he was very highly rated and was loved by the reading players - he is a defensive coach i believe.
-
Club for me. I still follow England when they play, but it doesn't ruin my weekend if England loose.
-
They had eugene bopp playing lastnight He scored 2 goals and is apparently Hart's 'Top target' He was released by crewe for petes sake! Times are very very hard over there by the sounds of it.
-
Patterson would be great as an option to bring on to replace stern. I wouldn't start him with stern....I'm not sure that would work, but I'd like to see him alongside a pacey player who'll open up more space.
-
Sensible is the key word. If we want a player i cannot see us paying over the odds for them. We'll offer what they're worth and that's it. Sounds as if AP is going about this steadily and carefully.
-
Stern would be great in this league tbh, we saw the benifit of a fit and confident stern a season ago - 20 goals in all comps. Getting rid of Saga + Rasiak was always going to happen. You cannot keep all 3....and players of that 'level' will not want to be playing 2nd' fiddle in league 1. Basically this opens the door for us to buy a fresh pacey/tricky striker to partner stern. A striker who actually plays on the shoulder of defenders..running onto sterns flicks. Pace in any league is essential IMO. The forward line up will be....Stern/Pacey Striker/Patterson/Lallana. I know Lita is possibly out of our league but someone like him would be absolutely perfect. I saw Tyson mentioned on another thread....good shout imo.

It's a massive coup IMO. A player who can easily step up to the championship when we get promoted, the teams that have gone up to the championship and adjusted quickly.. have been able to play the core of the team and did well in league 1.(Swansea/Bristol city) this was the comment from Coppell towards the end of last season... “He is still contracted to Ipswich, but I spoke with Dan before the end of the season. He did ever so well when he played and we’ll see how things go.” obviously as Coppell left, that put end to that move....but he did play v well at the top end of the championship.

Their left back that day was Matthew kilgallon i think (now with Sheff United) and he hasn't turned out too badly! I watched Harding on one of readings TV games this year, he was brilliant and from the moment i heard he was avaliable on a free...i thought he'd be a great capture for us - but i expected him to go to a champ side.
-
left wing/backup to left back? he was pretty good as a winger on saturday. i think (hope) this signals the end of molyneux
-
I saw him play for reading last year, he was brillaint that day...
-
that is a brilliant signing...
-
I think we're being a bit harsh on him. He's a good player, his problem is the hangover from the previous management. All these young kids are used to loosing, it's easy for experienced players to recover from this mentality after a while because usually they've experienced the winning side of the game... ...but these young players have been thrust into a losing setup with a losing mentality and in their careers that's all they've had. - it's no wonder they look a little short atm. once pardrew sorts them all out, they'll show us what they're all about. (that wasn't meant to rhyme...)
-
He's exactly what we need in midfield! He obviously isn't the youngest anymore but he still has alot to offer, esp. at league 1 level IMO. He'd compliment Gillett perfectly, someone who you can trust with the ball...and someone who has the ability to lead from the centre. If we can get experienced leaders right down the spine of the team then we will do fine...supplement that with the likes of Lallana/Mills/James/Morgan/Gillett and you have a pretty good team. I had hoped we would sign him a few years back when GB was in charge, but we didn't...
-
It'll also be interesting to see the influence Murty would have on him joining (ok, i know he's not signed himself yet...), as he was with Lita for a few years at Reading...so they'll know all about each other.
-
TBH PlayRadio didn't buy radio Hampshire's licenses to ''continue from them...'', they acquired the licenses to start a completely new station, unconnected from them - i doubt very much if anything from the radio Hampshire days will be continued.
-
If he believes the project we're undertaking here, then i reckon he'll sign. This isn't just your average leage 1 club remember.....we're only going in one direction now and i'd expect alot of players are interested in playing a part. If we do get him i reckon he'd score 30+ in this league and auto promotion, even with -10, could be possible.
-
I'd keep stern, but not euell. I didn't actually think Euell was still with us, but i guess there isn't any club who actually wants to take him.
-
Done. Brilliantly i forgot to add my username to the payment also...
-
Personally i wouldn't want him back. Doesn't show ambition IMO to keep going back for your old castoffs. He didn't do v well at leeds or forest - unfort. he's turned into a bit of journeyman now.
-
I think that may have been a projected estimate based on walkups tomorrow? Not sure though. - hope the weather holds out, cause it's going to be a cracking day whatever the result.
-
Kind of agree. We have a chance of actually winning a cup for once! so we might as well make the most of it.
-
I don't get why ''not playing Tevez and Masc'' is being used against him. We do not know the ins and outs of that but we can surely say it wasn't just as simple as ''Ok you can both play today''. Those two signings ruined west ham and the great team spirit HE had setup. West Ham's demise under Pardew was more to do with players being forced on him rather than him being a crap manager IMO.
-
It's great....and it's even better when you realise he's actually never ever ever going to be part of us again - he's got no say at all!!!
-
If we were asked by a club who just appointed Redkrapp as manager, they'd get the same responses from us. He was utter ****e here...and Pardew was utter ****e at Charlton, but it doesn't make them bad managers when backed properly (as they have actually both proven in other managerial jobs)
