We caught teams out in the first few games, and it worked quite well. All the oppo need to do though is play with pace on the counter, hit a high ball and watch Fox or Yoshida fall on their arse. Game over. We need better players to play that way, which is exactly what Adkins and co sussed out and is why we went back to basics. We'll leave ourselves open to some absolute pastings if we continue this way IMO, and ultimately, probably relegation.

Let's hope today's performance isn't a sign of what's to come. He was absolutely horrific.
-
That was a complete disaster, from word go. It was as ineffective and rusty as we've been all season. Players didn't seem to know what to do anywhere on the pitch. We've come from being quite a solid, disciplined unit to once again being wide open down the flanks, allowing too much space in behind, making basic errors and giving away goals which wouldn't look out of place in the lower leagues. The decision to get rid of Adkins is looking more stupid by the minute. If anything, we'd be no worse off at this moment in time. MP had an okish start to life here, but is being shown up quite emphatically at this moment in time. He just doesn't seem to have any idea if the ''high press'' doesn't work, absolutely no idea. Still a long way to go of course, but from being in a position to move clear we are now back in the mire and amongst the worst in the league in terms of form. Alarm bells are ringing very, very loudly for me at this moment in time. Going down this season just can't happen for us, I dread to think of the fallout. We'd be nowhere near promotion the following season though, that's for sure.

Ah, didn't expect this - so good news. I think in the long-term we will upgrade on Puncheon, but he's been pretty important for us this year and over the next 4 seasons will remain a valuable member of the squad I imagine.
-
Why is it a massive load of ****? It's clearly not, as he clearly didn't give a ****. If you think he improved us, then you are living in an odd world. I blame him every bit for our relegation, a manager who wanted to be here and gave a **** would have kept that side up.
-
Exactly. So where he's coming from on the cut adrift point is beyond me. Shows he didn't really give a **** as he can't even remember the structure of the season.
-
If giving everything you've had is then turning around and saying ''My heart was never in it'' , then QPR are ****ed.
-
I don't think we were ever cut adrift that year. We were out of the bottom 3 in march for christ sake! Should have gone on from there. We also were only 1 or 2 points from Saftey by the close of play. (and could have stayed up on the last day). Don't think that's being cut adrift, but correct me if i'm wrong.
-
What a great watch. These last 3 and a bit years have just been immense for us. The memories will live with me for ever to be honest, and Lambert has to be a modern-day Southampton legend without question.
-
This. Exactly how it feels to me as well.
-
Yeah, sod those 30 yarders. **** decisions.

Proud as **** to know we produced him. Gutted he's not still here, but I accept that. Just proud that I got to watch him grow as a player at St Mary's, even though it was just a year.
-
Both goals in the 2nd half were down to his lack of positional awareness more than anything. Got caught on the wrong side of Debouchy, and he was then vulnerable for the hand ball. Was caught too close to Jos for the 4th, which allowed his clearance to hit in off Jos. I don't think he's as bad as some make out, but his lack of positional sense has been obvious ever since he's been here to be honest.
-
Slightly lost in translation I'd have thought.
-
Nah, he's a player we need to replace if we are to progress.
-
Nah, he had about 30 mins out there. All he did was fall over twice, dive and pick up a yellow card. For £12m you expect a player like him to come off the bench and influence things. He doesn't seem to be capable of that. He's the sort of player we could end up carrying if we go on a really bad run. IMO anyway.
-
They've been completely outclassed. Feel sorry for them, there's nothing they can do about it. Just out of their depth by miles. And is that our former player of the season, Andrew Davies, on the bench for Bradford?

Killed ourselves 2 or 3 times in that game, our own-undoing. Generally pathetic in the first half, but better in the 2nd half - but we never really got a control of the game. Very huff and puff and you have to say that Newcastle easily deserved that win. They were much stronger and quicker than us all over the pitch, and sharper when it mattered. These 2 week lay offs do not do us any favours at all. Next week is huge. Nervous for it already! -
It's in there, but we're seeing it few and far between at the moment. He seems to be completely lost and ineffective. As long as we stay up, a good pre-season behind him will help a hell of a lot. If we go down he will become the greatest waste of money in this clubs history.
-
Clearly talented, but I have no idea how he can integrate into this team.
-
Rameriz with a rubbish first touch. Such an enigma.
-
Nah it's over!
-
Gaston Ramirez must be the biggest dilemma to MP. Clearly talented, but seemingly unable to integrate into any team away from home.
