Plus no mention of the fact he hates Pompey.
  3. Few beers on the way, bit like the old days.
  4. You're probably right, but you would hope the season ticket/membership schemes would prevent this. Unlikely to though as Coventry seemed to have a lot of support seen cheering their goal in the Itchen stand. What restrictions, if any, are in place, if this reaches General Sale ?
  5. Remember the cardboard boxes !
  6. Taking the thread off tangent for a moment : Living in the north east in the early 1980's and the local commercial station at the time (Metro radio) used a few bars of 'Music' as a run up to their hourly news. As you say, must have been strange for him finding out his music ended up in places he wouldn't have expected. Wonder if he was receiving royalties on the back of it.
  7. He was one of the great voices of sport that will live with me from my childhood. Others being David Coleman, Brian Moore, and the commentators from that era, along with Cliff Morgan, Bill McLaren. Many an hour was spent with Eddie Waring or Kent Walton in the background whilst waiting for the results. Except this score was a myth. This is a good read: https://www.nutmegmagazine.co.uk/issue-7/forfar-5-east-fife-4/ And https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44916496
  8. This is interesting and something I raised on another thread. The only article I found was this which seemed a fairly typical pre-match nicety and given RH leaving Leipzig with a year to run on his contract I've often thought the relationship likely to be strained. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/ralf-rangnick-ralph-hasenhuttl-leipzig-bundesliga-southampton-b2013577.html Any chance you could post the Athletic article please ?
  9. Rashford OBE please, have some respect. I'm not going to make a case out for him and agree he's been overhyped as are all their players when things are going well. But is it possible he and everyone else have been forced to adapt their games to allow Ronaldo and his ego centre stage at every opportunity ?
  10. And then there would be a gathering outside the newsagents at 6pm for the Sports Echo when blokes would review the results (that they could remember from Final Score) before the papers arrived.
  11. This might be the main hope of retaining Broja. Ideally would like Salisu to stay another season with new contract to protect our position though.
  12. Ceefax/Teletext brings back less happy memories. Tranmere away, which got worse every time I looked. then the confirmation one Monday morning that Hoddle had fucked off back to spurs.
  13. On The Ball in the 1970’s , Saint & Greavsie was a later variation of it. Bulk of the programme often taken up by horse racing. Yawn. Can’t clearly remember who presented On The Ball, possibly Brian Moore and Jimmy Hill (before he switched to BBC).

    Whats changed?

I’d change that round and say having the best 11 available to him and all playing to their potential. Take two or three out ( the Romeu- JWP hub) and best CB’s out and it’s a different story.
  15. Think they had this as the height of technology on both Grandstand and World of Sport. Possibly at the bottom of the screen whilst watching a tense last 10 minutes of wrestling (Kent Walton commentating ! Remember Les Kellet was always worth watching) whilst waiting for the final scores.
  16. Possibly before your 40 years as this brings back memories of listening in the late 1970’s but recall they used to play the theme from Freewheelers, a 60’s children’s programme produced by Southern TV. Fond memories. Living near Reading had to extend the aerial in the right direction to pick up a signal. Recall Tony Husband, Ian Henderson presenting, and Tony Michener (usually at Bournemouth). Can’t remember who covered the skates (wonder why ).
  17. Was the John Miles music taken from ‘Music’ ?
  18. Going into MLG mode but Ralph didn’t make the dig on MOTD, Line-acre (to use the Channon pronunciation) quoted it from another article reported.
  19. Can’t see it, as someone else said RH would be head coach and no influence over the club’s strategy as he has with us. Not sure of the strength of the relationship between the two despite this article. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/ralf-rangnick-ralph-hasenhuttl-leipzig-bundesliga-southampton-b2013577.html?amp
  20. In addition to the question of where to seat the away support the club should also look into the sales and distribution of tickets within home sections. There was a large group of Coventry supporters in the Itchen yesterday clearly visible when they scored. I know you’ll always find a few local Utd or Liverpool day trippers finding tickets but this was Coventry !! Hope the same doesn’t happen with West Ham (who probably won’t conduct themselves in the same manner that most Cov fans would).
  21. No I’m sure it isn’t but I used to have a lot more confidence in the draw being above question when it was from Lancaster Gate (on radio) and you’d be told of the blazers completing the draw “ Dr Lionel Smart will draw the home teams and …,”. Unfortunately in the age of ‘celebrity’ they must have a recognised face doing it for the cameras. Seem to remember that such upstanding pillars of the game such as Terry Venables and ‘Arry helping make the draw in previous years.
  22. That is probably the most flexible game and one I’d imagine they’d look to move (unless it is sold for live tv coverage somewhere else in the globe) if need be.
  23. Would rather AFCB face "Frank Lampard's Dugout Pioneers' though.
  24. Has to be strongest team for this,
  25. Suspect the rozzers are already calculating their overtime payments for this one. 5,000 West Ham fans in town. And don’t forget the 10-15,000 skates fans who’ll just turn up for a punch up
