  1. Has been mentioned on here regularly, St Lard especially has been a key supporter. I say the same thing every time though that part of his success has been the recruitment at Brentford and I'd rather we try and attract that or emulate their success. Nuno - I think his success at Wolves was largely down to the relationship the club had with the agent, and though he might struggle without it. Can't read too much into his time at Spurs though. Didn't Garcia turn us down before ? Think it was at the time Puel was appointed. we've no idea how they will operate, time to find out I suppose.
  2. 21st Century Branfoot. No, thanks.
  3. Not sure of the timing of his statement but for me the turning point came after we beat West Ham in the cup. I came away from that match thinking it would be a springboard to an exciting end of season. Instead of which is has just been a pitiful belly flop as they seem to have given up. His comments were naive and ill thought out but the players should be able to cope with that in the background without the collapse we’ve seen in recent weeks.
  4. Can’t see us having a new manager in place by then, it’s more likely to be another Kelvin & Watson holding the fort fiasco. Didn’t work too well last time as I recall. Unless Semmens/Crocker , or will it be Rasmus now ? , have done their homework with an already available manager (for example Favre, or Fonseca who are touted for every job now) willing to come in, I doubt we’ll see an appointment soon. Esp if the preferred option is employed elsewhere It will probably be a few weeks of sifting, club putting out statements of quality of candidates (bullshit) whilst every fucker goes on holiday. Can only hope the new team are more decisive and active than previous regimes if they do wield the axe.
  5. Perfect, why look any further ?
  6. Similar to a reworking of the Coventry 1980's shirt that Hummel did for them a couple of seasons ago.
  7. Fair point, Dowie was undisputed champion in a league of his own for a few years. From the same era, always though Hurlock could do a good 'Quasimodo' if needed. Thought i might bring it to his attention in The Dell car park once, from a safe distance of course. But thought better of it.
  8. A couple of months ago no doubt, but not sure his application and attitude over the past few weeks will have endeared him to the club, and Ralph in particular.
  9. That might mean combined...
  10. Could win SFC a few trophies at the National Gurning Championships though.
  11. Was that kit worn in a competitive match ? Think it was the year we had the yellow and blue striped second kit as well so no real need for it.
  12. Jankewitz, yes that worked out well. What became of Will Ferry though ? Was another that was highly rated at one point.
  13. That would be far too stylish and classical, can’t see us going for anything so good. Bound to allow someone’s artistic flair to go into overdrive and come up with something else. From the snippets provided it sounds like we’ve ripped off the Ajax shirt, or recreated the Dean Richards era kit from 1999 or thereabouts.
  14. Perhaps it’s verging on the brown side of khaki. Seem to remember Everton playing in a khaki strip against us a few years ago. Didn’t look great but was an improvement on their blue Le Coq, Hafnia, kit from 1984 which still turns me into a rage. But why not have a brown strip? we’ve often looked shit over the years.
  15. I know you’re joking, but the suggestion of Rooney makes either Di Canio or Poyet a more welcome prospect.
  16. Not just the woman’s game though is it ? Same can be said about consideration of supporters in general, kick off times making no allowance for travelling etc. Look at the farce of holding SF at Wembley for two north west teams with known disruption on the trains.
  17. Any reason Stockport is chosen as a neutral venue for a match between Saints & Wolves ? Surely there is a suitable venue between the two clubs. If this was a mens SF at Old Trafford (leaving aside the FA obsession with Wembley), you’d question it being closer to Wolverhampton but might accept the selection for ground capacity. Can’t believe another venue couldn’t be available for this for the expected crowd.
  18. Interesting comment from 2019: Wonder if that is now closer … Hopefully this no longer applies with Bunsen now long gone.
  19. Interesting that this crops up today, as his name was mentioned on a thread yesterday. Don’t think there is a great track record (see first post, and consider our recruitment since his arrival) to be concerned over his departure. Only issue is the timing. If he was going to Man Utd it probably wouldn’t matter as they’ll be recruiting at a different level. Leicester, although ahead of us in the attractions stakes, still look at the ‘bargain’ market that we operate in. Would hope we defer any releasing until the next window closes, depending on his contract of course. Saints though will probably release him early to save on his salary

Branfoot was vilified for his comment "Southampton can't afford to live in same street as Leeds United" comment in his first season. L Now I'm reading on here that we can't keep up with Brighton, Palace, and newly promoted Brentford.

I thought Crocker was more of a DoF, and that a permanent Director of Recruitment was also lined up. Glover was a temporary appointment when first mentioned. As for your last comment, "what's the point" , after following Saints since the 60's , this is a question I'm increasingly asking myself. Today, 46 years on from our one and only major trophy, it's not so much a question of will I see another one in my lifetime as much as does the club really have any real intent or appetite to try and win something, or just tick over with a squad of disinterested players ?
  22. Super Shane... well worth a new contract.

Can only hope that the new owners have a game plan and that it is implemented quickly at the end of the season, and display it, other than by a Semmens Five Live talking shop. Yes, he comes across well, but his last interview was a little too close to the Les Reed manta of "we're relaxed about it .." on the topic of everyone leaving. Giving Long a new contract won't allay anyone's fears. On a positive though, Rasmus had a good reputation and record at Brentford, although they seemed to work their scouting network quite well in recent years. Shame he can't bring in their Director of Recruitment, as to my recollection we are still overdue an appointment to replace Jimmy Krankie. There was the rumoured one who was under contract and couldn't join until the summer ... but then it went quiet never to be heard of again. What was that two or three seasons ago ? Agree that expanding the group of clubs should be secondary to sorting out Saints, but then we're biased, and football might be secondary in the thinking to just expanding the dots on the map.
  24. Just to lighten the mood: First team to go down when they introduced three automatic relegation spots. First time a team bottom at Christmas escaped (WBA) meant we went down. Can't se why you would be so pessimistic JB Saint. Don't think we will drop, but the fact that it's even being remotely considered is a disgrace.
  25. That looks potentially more like a Terry Hurlock than anyone mentioned here previously. Doubt many will nominate him as the ideal candidate though.
