  1. Well done to Nigel and team However lets not forget who bought Fonte, Lambert, Barnard, Hammond, Jaidi etc Nigel's next test will be to manage any transfer budget he is given
  2. Phew Cacking myself all afternoon!! Two immediate thoughts Wonder if we will win our first game in the Championship? How many season tickets will be sold?
  3. Oh dear, reality check here Mine was approx 1955. Tommy Mulgrew got a ball in the nuts in a game (v Northampton i think) He yelled out like a stuck pig. Heavy leather match balls in those days. As a youngster i thought this was hilarious!! Also remember Len Wilkins last game before going off to Canada in season 56/7 Vaguely recollect the Saints v Man Utd (Busby Babes) Youth Cup final 1st Leg (1956/7) when we had Terry Paine/John Sydenham/Bob Charles etc Lost 5-2 at home but beat them 2-1 (?) at Old Trafford Saints Youth played in hand me down kit whereas Utd had brand new shirts and silky type shorts which made our lot look v scruffy in comparison Probably went prior to 1955 as we used to live in Milton Rd and my Dad used to take me before I was old enough for school. Sometimes I curse my Dad for getting me involved (eg like today when I am far too nervous for my own good!!) but many of my fondest memories have centered around Saints
  4. As a long suffering fan and a card carrying pessimist, I also worry that we will blow it Last night I had a vivid dream of a 1-0 defeat at Plymouth followed by a draw at home to Walsall leaving us to lose over two legs to Bournemouth. Please dont let this happen!!
  5. May 1st, one of the greatest days of my life The Sunday homecoming was good too altho wet and windy Monday night at the Dell for Mick Channons testimonial was also great. The old Dell had never been so packed!!
  6. Wouldnt it be good to doctor the advert to read Fish Pedicure for Pompey Season Ticket holder in Soton and then add an extra toe and a Ppompey tattoo Would sum things up nicely!!
  7. i wonder if these three people are being pursued by a sympathetic medical facility looking to undertake some sort of research into the mentally unstable who in their right mind would spend their money in such a cavalier fashion?
  8. As a card carrying pessimist I see us coming third and losing to Bournemouth in the play off's Please no!!!
  9. All of a sudden cant pick up AM on the car radio, Solent has gone missing, Radio 2 is a bit fuzzy but can pick up Breeze etc good as gold Any suggestions pl? Anything to do with the new digital frequencies?
  10. Has to be if we are to go up We drew 1-1 at Brisbane Rd in both of our promotions to the top division Could it be a treble ie same result and promotion?
  11. 1-0 to Carlisle in front of 40,000 fans 10,000+ less than the Saints travelling support last year!!!

    Sad Day

For me A good pal and a real nice bloke, who supported the Saints for over 50 yrs, passed away unexpectedly. He took his grandson to the Sheff Weds game last Sat and will no doubt be looking down on us with a smile on his face that the last game he saw was a Saints win with his beloved grandson We sat together at St Marys since day 1 and previously stood underneath the East Stand We also went to away games good and bad and often laughed about the 7-1 hiding at Watford for a number of reasons. He will be up there now demanding promotion whilst very much concerned about the loved ones he has left behind for the moment. DONT LET HIM DOWN!!!
  13. One of their supporters reckoned the home support was the best he had experienced all season 'consistently behind their team' Was in the 'posh seats' today and confirm the support sounded good especially in the 2nd half Not much to cheer about in the first 45 mins!!
  14. Interesting post Think the values expressed are somewhat on the high side and must be linked to age and remaining contract period
  15. Its live on the TV. Kiss of death AAGH!!!
  16. ESB have lost your contact details due to a computer malfunction, can you ping me over your email address pl?
  17. Many years ago I turned out occasionally in the Soton Weds League as a guest player for one of the 4 or so local Police teams (ie Shirley/Eastleigh/Portswood/Transport Police who played in the League, along with Marchwood Military Camp, Woolston Weds etc etc Some half decent players in the police teams but I have never seen so much aggression and foul play. As a 'civilian' you weren't targetted directly but often got caught up in the left overs from an earlier challenge Ironically some of the Senior Officers used to turn up to give support and encourage their boys to 'get stuck in' Also recognised some ne'er do wells on the line who I reckon were in the pay of the Police and came along to witness the mayhem and get their backhanders. Interesting times!!
  18. Should be certain 'age' not name!!
  19. Those of a certain name will remember him from his DJ days at the Adam & Eve and the Top Rank. Does anyone know if he then went on to work for Elton John as an A & R man? Just trying to settle an argument.
  20. I once gave Joe Jordan offside when he was playing for Saints Res in a fixture v Luton Res He wa not a happy bunny Would have been the winner
  21. Were Pompey worth their win
  22. Sorry to have to report that our two debutant loanees both started off in a less than positive fashion at their latest respective clubs last weekend. Young Antony, as many people may have witnessed on TV, was sent off for a very reckless challenge in Barnet's 3-0 towsing by Torquay. Barnet sit bottom of League 2 Our 5 yr contracted custodian let in two howlers (one sailed over his head, the other escaped his dive!) in a 6-1 defeat at Darlington. Eastbourne Borough sit botton of the Blue Square Premier. I suppose there is only one way to go!! Hopefully one of these days the truth will out about these signings which both are up there with the Ali Dia debacle. At least he was only on a pay as you paly deal!!
  23. Interesting mention of George O'Brien. A pretty decent player in his time at the Dell. Scored quite a few goals. Still lives locally I understand (ran a pub in Freemantle and then drove a taxi) As far as I am aware has never involved himself with Saints since leaving the club. Cdertainly remembered by those of us of the older persuasion Played against his sons when younger. Both decent players in the local game
  24. Steve If your plans for a general regeneration of Southampton are the ones I have seen at recent presentations, then there are exciting times ahead for the city However I guess that, funding, as ever will be the issue
