I am an 'old timer'. Passed 11+, went to a Grammar School Wore a blazer and cap to school (had to doff to the Masters wives if we ever saw them) called the Masters 'Sir' and they called you by your surname. Much more discipline and respect those days. That said, I believe kids are equally as intelligent these days and are given the opportunity to question and debate we our generation didn't get until University. Our generation read books and learnt a lot by rote and progressed on the back of exam results Today's generation is much more 'saavy' and spend far more time on electronic gadgets in line with technological progress. Perhaps more store should be placed on traditional values. To be honest I struggle with some of my kids Maths but am amazed how few of their generation know events of History or where certain places are in the world Out of 8 'Grade A' students only one knew where Buenos Aires is. One thought Argentina was in Africa!!

Is it too soon to establish if sales have been affected by the lack of an instalment plan and the diversion of the World Cup? Normally I would pay for mine on receipt of a renewal reminder. As none arrived this year I could have easily forgotten but fortunately one of my mates renewed for me (I did the same for him last year!!) I guess if the club does make some more good signings then interest may increase but can't see us selling more than last year. Very happy to be proved wrong though

It is difficult to remember precisely but 1966 was a gentler age (altho football violence came to the Dell for the first time at the start of the 1966/7 season when Chelsea came down during our first season in Div1) TV was all Black & White those days with just 2 (or possibly 3) channels. Players wages were modest (think the England players got £1,000 each for winning the World Cup) and supporters tended to make their own favours so replica shirts etc weren't in evidence. There wasn't the desire to win at all costs and altho there was a general rejoicing about the England win I don't remember too much about street parties and the like. Certainly the euphoria locally when Saints won the Cup in 76 seemed at a far higher level. One other thing I used to enjoy at the time was the trip to Wembley every 2 yrs to watch Engla v Scotland.

Feel v old admitting to this but I was in the crowd for the 66 World Cup Final. Also saw France v Uruguay in the Group Stage game at the old White City Stadium. Any one else actually at Wembley for the England triumph? My Dad and I went to the Royal Lancaster Hotel after the game to see the England team and waved to Terry Paine. All fairly relaxed compared to reaction these days. Also saw Saints Semi Finals v Man Utd in 1963 plus Everton, Liverpool & Watford plus Wembley games v Man Utd, Liverpool N Forest (x2) & Carlisle + Arsenal @ Cardiff + a number of European Games. I have been quite blessed football wise especially as I started out watching Saints in front of sparse crowds at the Dell in the old Div 3 S. Really hope the youngsters out there have the enjoyment I have had from following the Saints (and England)

Just as a comparison £680 online price for a seat on the Kop, £735 'at window' whatever that means. Prices up 7% over last year Compare players wages up 17% with Liverpool having 3rd highest wage bill in the country. Surely the cost of football and the ridiculous players wages can't continue?

It used to be £33k per season in the Prem and, as far as I believe, there has not been much variation since then on the basis that there are more games. I know one of the current Box holders and I am sure he said he were paying approx £30k for the season. Probably that's why there is a very limited uptake. One thing you can say about old Rosy Cheeks, when my company had a box in the early days of St Marys Rupes always used to pop in to say hello (and possibly check the catering was up to standard!!!)

Certainly players weren't as big or as fit as today's crop. However I wonder how the current prima donnas would have got on playing in heavy kit/toe cap boots on grassless pitches most of the year with a heavy ball to contend with. And of course there were the 'challenges'!! Some of these 'old boys' were tough ex miners/soldiers who took and expected no quarters. Unfortunately I ran over a cat once, whilst observing the speed limit. Had little chance to avoid a collision as the cat came storming out from inside a hedge. Because I was only going 30mph the cat was injured not despatched. I stopped to see what could be done and got assailed by a woman and her scabby kids, who brought bystanders in to have a go. All my fault apparently. Fortunately the local postal delivery woman, who actually witnessed the incident, spoke up for me and this helped to some extent Would be loath to stop and offer assistance again after this experience!!
