Was definitely a penalty but you get the sense from the refs that they are primed into thinking “clear penalty” when it’s a big team and “I can’t quite see” when it’s us. Then when it goes to VAR you end up with, “oh was probably not a penalty for big team but not a clear and obvious error” and of course “oh yes that looked like a pen but not enough to be a clear and obvious error”. Years from now EPL will be exposed for match-fixing and I doubt many will be surprised. How many games week in week out do we see a big team having an off day and then getting awarded a dodgy penalty to help them back in?
