  1. My, my looks like Bangladesh are going to beat South Africa, bit of a surprise there surely?
  2. Although if we'd have got Walcott in January of 2018 we might not have saddled ourselves with the utterly useless Carrillo.
  3. And he'll still want his 300K a week or whatever it is that he gets... so that's a non-starter for all but a few elite clubs with sponsors money to throw out of the window then, most of them wouldn't want him either..
  4. Not based on the season he 's just had at Marseille he wouldn't. He is either toast or can't be arsed, whichever it is we need to steer well clear of him.
  5. OK, just seems strange not to replace a value like Markram with an overseas players for a final. Perhaps as it was just a one off it wasn't worth it and that we have others lined up for the T20.
  6. That's true but not being allowed to replace Markram with Rahane for the final was a bit of a blow. If I recall correctly Markram was a major player in the pool games. Made a fair few runs as an openers, pretty quicky as well and bowled pretty handily.
  7. Oh drat, Donald out already, caught at cover. Now we have 2 slowcoachs at bat. This will not end well.
  8. Especially looking at the side today. Berg batting at 6 I believe and Chris Wood gets a game again. Vince and Dawson playing at the Aegeas all the same. One Day cup seems to be a bit of a side show this season.
  9. Means little really, the standard of Ligue is so low that any player with a grain of ability will look good in it. Don't watch a lot of French Football myself but I looked in at Montpellier-Marseille yesterday evening. Battle for 5th and 6th places, neither of them qualifiying for anything anyway. The game was just complete rubbish, probably League 1 at best. The state of the OM side brings to mind the old quote from Dolly Parton,"it costs a lot of money to look this cheap".
  10. Am a bit concerned about today, don't think we have anywhere near enough explosive batting to trouble Somerset. I suppose Alsop will open with either Weatherley or Soames but they both usually seem incapable of scoring quickly against decent bowling. Might all be down to Rossouw and Donald, both of whom can either score quickly, or get out to their first ball.
  11. There's been an explosion down in Lyon this afternoon, nail bomb in a popular throughfare apparently. A few injured, don't know more than that. Should stoke the RN vote a bit, even if it's not terrorist related.
  12. I don't think India's population is the priimary concern, it's too large to be sure but Africa seems to be the major problem just now. Back in the 70s/80s there was an ecologist who wrote books and stuff (before ecology was the in thing) whos premise was that we shouldn't go out of our way to heal and prevent natural diseases in Africa because it would over-alter the natural ecosystem or something. Imagine that nowadays, bloke would get lynched before the sun was set. Can't remember his name. Perhaps it was Erlich somewhere in his tome "The Population Bomb," just can't remember but he certainly predicted today's imminent crisis back in the 70's.
  13. Yes but we need to shift some before we take on any more, they'll probably be average as well. Really good CBs are extremely hard to find, probably because every "big club" in Europe wants 4 or 5 on their books leaving the dross for everyone else. Why look we paid about 18 million for Hoedt and over 20, I believe, for Vestergaard who's OK but not top, top .
  14. Probably because we already have so many.
  15. We'll see after the Yorks game next week. They thumped us at the Aegeas so not losing, at Headingley I suppose, would be pretty good.
  16. And yet the first exit poll estimation in the Dutch EU elections were all over the French press 10 minutes after the polls closed. Whether they're anywhere near accurate who knows. Thing is there the "good guys" seem to have done pretty well, unexpectedly well actually and the baddies of the extreme right less well than predicted.
  17. Just what we need, more goalies..
  18. Yes but the idiot who allowed that is now gone. Why we persevered with him after the Toby fiasco (amongst others) I'll never work out.
  19. i think I heard Kevan James say that Rahane is here for 7 games, don't know if that's Championship and T20 or just Championship. Do we recover Markram after that? If so we'll not be so badly placed because he's a bit of an all-rounder.
  20. Sort of player of which we should beware. These microleagues are just too poor to appraise ability from. We'll just end up with another shedload of Clasies, De Ridders, Boufals and Carrillos. There is talent in the English lower leagues, that's where we should be looking for 12 million quid players not Belgium, Norway or Cyprus. Might even end up like that bloke Everton bought last summer, can't play for them because he doesn't meet work permit requirements.
  21. Probably. Anyway, Abbott got Nash in one of the first overs after lunch so we're probably on our way to the win now.
  22. Probably, might have to take at least one of the seamers off to adjust the over rate though. Looks like we're 4 behind so far, think we risk a points deduction for that don't we? Dawson usually manages to make up the overs we're short without any noticeable difference in efficacity but Crane or Weatherley might just get tonked if there's nothing in the wicket for them.
  23. But only if the terms of the referendum included leaving without a deal without fail. Otherwise there will always be opponents. Perhaps voting in another referendum should be manadatory as well. £50 fine for not voting or something. Then the result would be more definitive.
  24. But the final decision has to be with the House of Commons since Gina Miller's victory in the High Court. Don't see how another referendum would change that. You've already had one with the result of 52-48 for leave. Evidently the MPs have shown themselves capable of not respecting the will of the people once, no reason to assume that they wouldn't do it again. So the ballot would have to contain some sort of clause about leaving with or without a deal. Cos the "deal" will never suit all the MPs necessary. Me personally I'd let the Scots wander off and do whatever it is they think they want to do and have done with their 40 or 50 whatever it is votes against anything they don't agree with. Scottish Nationalists should not have the right to decide the future of the rest of the UK.
  25. Well at least you don't have to choose, amongst others, between the Animal Lovers Party and The Decent, Law Abiding Muslims Party. In France there are 34 parties in the ballot, including 3 or 4 different nationalist groups, at least three ecologist groups, various shades of socialism and never socialism etc. Most of them don't even have any posters to put up and it's rumoured that some can't even afford to print their ballot papers.
