A critical appraisal of the first quarter of the season.

Being a seasoned marathon man of sorts (47 marathons PB in the 2 20s) I know that you have to be even paced, it's no good having a target time of 2hrs 30, running the first quarter in an hour and then hoping to run the remaining 19 and a half miles in 1hr 30. With 15 points on the board over a quarter of the way into the season this is what it would equate to roughly. We need nearly 90 we only have 1/6th of that 1/4 into the season, negative splits yes, but not that much. -
It's common sense really, horses for courses and all that.We should have gone with 3 DMs and broken them down no further back that half way into our own half. Guly was an absolutely stark raving monster loony choice, there's nothing for him against aggressive sides like Huddersfield, not when your strike partner is Ricky Immobile Lambert anyway. Puncheon adds nothing and Lallana probably lacks core fitness for a challenge like Huddersfield.

He believed in all the hype about himself as likely as not, plus with Antonio and Papa on occasions opposing defences had more to worry about that just him.He was pivotal to our system to be sure but it was such that any side who parked the bus and shut Lambert down probably got a draw or better. Obviously that had to change and it has affected Lambert adversely for some reason or other. He may have come here to move up a League in 1 season and now with his career fading into the twilight never having played above League 1 level maybe he's grown totally disillusioned. -

Because we insist on playing the totally ineffective(from open play)Lambert. When someone somewhere has the gumption to drop him we'll be better off. -

Getting better, getting worse it matters not, we went into this game deluded by the facility of our win against Tranmere. Adkins got it totally wrong (unless of course Morgan has some sort of knock as he did get laid out against Turkey and then again in Denmark). we needed to go into this game with a 5 man midfield an Barnard in front of them to try to grind out a 0-0 draw or hit them on a lucky break. -
which is exactly what a lot of the more football knowledgeable posters have been saying all week;Tranmere was a very pretty performance but as they are totally zilch, nada, zero and all other definitions of totally dire it told us nothing,in fact it probably deceived us and lulled us into a false sense of well being concerning our game plan.

FFS it's nothing to do with the midfield, it's about what's in front of them, has been since the opening day of the season.

well don't put down that you only drink OSH on your resume (or CV) won't get a job with a tabloid with pussy drinking habits like that. Need to be able to down a gallon of whisky between 10 am and 2 pm to get a bye line with the Lunchtime O'Booze rags.
-
but the problem is always the same as it has been from day 1 of the season. We have strikers who are totally nase against decent defences.Against crap they do a job or refs give us penaties or something but we have no firepower against solid defences. We needed to splash the old lucre for a fast, two footed striker in august once it became evident that Lambert was crocked or not interested or whatever it is that ails him.Until we sort that out we will continue with these hit or miss results.

A comfortable win was never on the cards when thevman told us we'd start with the same team as last week, he nearly always gets it right ,a real itk on team selection.
-
well not really, they'd have 17 points and we'd still have 15.
-
before the start preferably
-
Bignall sounds shît
-
no effective strikers, nothing new there really, been the same all season
-
ooh fergie time
-
good manager Poyet.
-
we don't need to mess him about overmuch, he has a lot of offers or so I hear anyway.
-
Chaplow nearly drops us in the crapper again, don't see what anybody sees in the bloke really
-
yep but that was probably due to too many boilermakers at lunchtime.
-
the bickering is a bit understandable, we should be doing better if we're to go up this year and yet we aren't. If Saints don't get promotion this season will be absolutely catastrophic for the club and the fans sense that already.

Linesman feeling unwell, must be a Saint's fan then.

eventually ........... anyway I coach a girl's track team, always make sure they have the right shoes on straight away because there are a few real airheads amongst them.
-
as he does every now and again at the moment.
-
bet they have difficulty riding their bikes with those shoes.
