  1. Virgil because of the way he has come in and made the position his own from the off and shown very quickly that he is worthy of his price-tag and a place in a top 10 Prem team.
  2. Good game but not to our best. Fonte looked suspect. Cedric and Bertrand were very good indeed. VVD was immense (my MOTM) and so was Victor. Davis and JWP had a reasonably good battling performance. The front line was very difficult to handle for their defence. The turning point I think was the first goal - if that had gone to them the result would have been quite different I think.

Just need to realise that the BBC do not recognise Southampton as a top 10+ Premiership team and that unless we're playing one of the 'big clubs' we will not feature. It's the law.
  4. Great game - entertaining. Good to see injured defenders back. (-O
  5. And what exactly is wrong with wanting a player wearing a Saints shirt to succeed FFS?!?! Some of the arguments on here defy belief!
  6. If we keep possession and maintain a high press we will win. Lay back and we will lose. Tough game. I liked the way the attackers linked last night...for some reason we don't get that with Pelle quite so muçh. I would keep Pelle on the bench and bring him on at 75m to either shore up the lead or start the long ball chase.
  7. Gaston was twice the player Juanmi was last night...much more insight...more physical...looked to unlock the defence rathèr than run through a brick wall. Thought he pushed himself a little up the pecking order based on that performance. Well done Gaston.
  8. Nice to see Saints back to winning ways and big scoreline...just like the league rise years. Juanmi was poor and Cedric not much better but at least they were playing in the correct position. Otherwise VVD was fantastic and the frontline was top dollar.
  9. Thought the youngsters looked a class apart. There's 3-4 players I think will definitely be giving RK something to think about in the coming years. Some nice goals too - especially Reed's - when was the last time we saw a central midfielder score?
  10. Not much point bawling about it - we're going to lose to teams like Utd...it's the way of the World, even if we're a better team. Clattentwerp managed to ignore so many cynical fouls and De Gea decided to be superb today. Next.
  11. Why? Never say never. I wonder why Nigel would have agreed to shoot that video? How many other ex-managers have gone back to their old clubs (that have sacked them in a questionable manner) and shot a video reminiscing over the last 5 years that they've missed mostly? You have to admit, it's not exactly the most common thing to happen. The club clearly have mended some bridges and it would not surprise me in the slightest to see him return to be honest - it can and has happened.
  12. Even though he's not as good as Yoshi, I would suggest he's no worse than Gardos and let's not forget that it will take Gardos quite some time to get back to match fitness after he recovers from his injury/surgery. The club probably expect him to move on at the end of the season I would imagine, but who knows, perhaps Gardos may not make it back at the same level and Caulker may be seen as an OK replacement if he's known to the changing room.
  13. Looks like the club are keeping in touch with him - nice touch. I could see him coming back to replace Ron when he leaves to go to a bigger club or Dutch national side.
  14. Can see nothing more than a 1-3 loss on current form. There's always a chance to turn the form around, but if we can't score against a poor WBA then Utd are going to walk all over us. I would play Wanyama and Romeu together as DM's. Davis is an enigma as he can be good, but if we want something from this game we REALLY need to have someone more creative and with some form of goal threat.
  15. Fair play but wrong. It was a pen. The only thing that convinced the officials otherwise is that McManaman toed the ball away in the same direction that Targett was travelling, thus making it look like Targett had touched the ball. He didn't touch it in reality and should have been sent off. It was either genius or utter stupidity from Targett.
  16. Thank fook you did that for me - I feel too sleepy to type that lot. If we don't start to find a way to score goals we will be staring bottom three in the face by Christmas - that may sound extreme, but possession doesn't win you points.
  17. Pelle is having one of his 'don't give a damn and blame everyone else games' - when he's class he's great...then 80% of the time he contributes little. The supply through the middle is absolutely awful - JWP and Davis do not complement each other one bit...bring on Romeu for Davis - as a DM he's got more about him. The defence is starting to look better organised with VVD, but Targett is lucky to still be on the pitch and we're lucky not to be 1-0 down. We can win this, but not unless the midfield starts showing more quality.
  18. Pretty decent window to be fair and the club continues to be run on sound financial means. Whether performances on the pitch continue to live up to expectations remains to be seen however - a win against Norwich may not be the best indicator of the outcome of our season. If the Europa league is the indicator, then we'll be dumped into the Championship by Christmas. I don't think it'll be that bad, but I don't think we'll match last seasons highs.
  19. On paper a great signing, but he will not be pushing forward in the Prem like in the above vid I suspect. Overall, have to say he looks an upgrade on both Yoshi and Fonte, so that can only be good news. Having said that, with Yoshi performing better lately, I could almost imagine him playing alongside Romeu and forging a very exciting defensive mid line-up that was dynamic enough to switch play around quickly and create many chances from deep in our half. Well done Saints on what appears to be another astute deal and let's hope we can keep hold of him for at least 3 of his 5 year contract.
  20. You mean the deathly silence that pervades once we go behind and start hoofing it to Pelle in desperation? Yup, the atmosphere at SMS is the best ever...always.
  21. What is the point of having a supposedly quality 1st choice 1st team player if he refuses to play? Fine the hell out of him and then ship the degenerate w****r out the door. Play Harry Reed FFS - at least he has the tenacity and spirit to want to play for shirt and will get better with a good run in the team alongside Romeu.
  22. Another loss on the cards. Norwich are no push-over team - in fact just the sort of team that will frustrate us and grab a crafty on the break goal. I reckon 0-1. That is our level now. The spirit has been sucked out of the squad IMO.
  23. I hope VVD is not the only 'top' CB option open to us, because who knows, his decision to join us may have been based on qualification to the Europa group stage. Money talks, but this result can hardly help us attract quality players can it?
  24. I think this is indicative of a general demise since Poch left - the games we dominated after that were where the players still had some of his coaching in them. It seems Ron and Co have gradually coached the team backwards. Add to this the fact that most of our best players have left and that the squad harmony built from League One has been destroyed, it's perhaps no surprise that we're looking a shadow of the former glory. The worrying aspect is that this pattern has been seen before in other teams and relegation is a definite possibility as a next step unless the decline is arrested. I am not convinced returning injured players or even a couple of squad additions are going to make much of difference. If you hoof it to Pelle nearly every attack, even the best midfielders in the World will struggle to make an impact on the game. Ron and Co need to seriously question their tactics and team selection - it ain't working fellas.
  25. Played like a league one team - I seriously would not put that performance any higher than that and whether that is down to Koeman's tactics or the skill level of the team we have left I don't know...probably both. Either way the result was inevitable given we were playing the Danish champions. The ref also missed a stone-wall penalty from a deliberate handball from JWP's free-kick among some of the worst play-acting and time-wasting I've seen for a long time from opposition. However, despite all that said, the best team won on the night.
