what is lowe getting out of being here?
Legod Third Coming replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
Lowe is not Rich. Raymond Loewy was reasonably well off. Rob Lowe has a few quid. Sir Frank Lowe is minted. But Rupert is middle-class - don't let him kid you otherwise. -
Spilt milk and all that but I really liked big Nige. I reckon he's going to be a lucky manager. Carlisle, then us.

Would be an interesting comparison to see how the results of those managers compared. But like I said, the key is can you (the management) see things that lead you to believe the manager is capable. For me, I would love Jan to have worked out because it was so full of promise. We looked really sharp pre-season just lacking a finisher. Now we just look lacking.

I agree with the first bit, but the Premiership was won by Liverpool about nine times in my first ten-fifteen years of supporting (when it was Div One). At least now it's one from four. What has changed is that a team like ours could never finish second. Albeit Villa will give it a right go. Maybe what's changed is Chairmen's patience and having a real strategy. And instead being in love with Mamon.

And if you think KP, why was Rupert wrong to side with the players over Sturrock?? For me, this case and Sturrock are really interesting. It kind of says to me, that the bigger the players, the bigger the manager needed. And might explain why Wotton and JP don't see eye to eye whereas some of the younger players would respect him totally. I love management but I really think it is the toughest gig in the world.

Friendly advice, stear clear of the Metal Mickey revival tour...

For once Nickerless, I kind of agree. Early in the season you could see our team were well organised and played well with some excellent results and some superb football that did not get the results it deserved. Against QPR for example, we played really well for a team drubbed 4-1. We were undone by naivety. The problem is, our players still make naive mistakes and they lack the energy, and passion of earlier in the season which often compensated for it. Now, it's easy to blame JP for this. But truthfully, these are kids not used to losing - most of them They played in a very succesful Academy side that swept all before them. Or simply didn't play first team football at all!!!! Now they're losing. And they're tired and they've losing belief and confidence. They don't know how to deal with this a lot of them. That's why Cork looked so good - he was relegated with S****horpe!!!! We can all blame Jan and think if we replace him things will turn - I wonder. Jan might be holding the bunsen burner but if he's being asked to make gold from lead it doesn't matter who holds it...

Come on - we're all opinionated ****s. Otherwise we would be tucked up with Barbara Taylor Bradford.

I love my wife and family. Football is a legitmate reason to call a man I have never met a w4nker and get away with it.

While I'm not for a minute casting him in the same league, if managers were sacked after six months of dodgy performances we would all have been asking Alex who, Lawrie who, who Curbishley, who Allerdyce and so on... The key is, can you see evidence that they know what they're doing. Interesting that Phil Parkinson has a much worse record than Jan but has just been given a contract full-time. Short term is not the only criteria. (And again, this is neither for nor against Jan, just a statement).

Surely we're not that far from having a decent team

To defend Jan it strikes me as more than coincidence that young players were better at the start of the season than they are now. Tiredness - physical and mental are taking their toll. I also don't think he's had one iota of input into who we bought. As I've said before, he wouldn't have known whether Millwall was a football club or brick maker. -

I don't think anyone in their right mind really believes ruddy-cheeks picks the team. He buys the players no question but then most chairmen do. Where he is wrong is his overall strategy. Within it he probably operates no differently to 90% of chairmen. -

The people who don't want Dowie want to think about where Palace were when he took over... He was then given 13 games by Charlton - and that worked for them didn't it? After Curbishley's what ten years having got them relegated too! And then he was fired by QPR when he started telling Briatore to stop picking the team... Dowie, Boothroyd, Adams, Holloway - any of those know and understand this league and wouldn't cost compensation. -
Not true of a single one of our youngsters - there is a massive difference between confident players and ones who have now had the confidence and belief knocked out of them because they are getting beat all the time.
-
I think the players at that time had belief, confidence and energy. As time has gone on, this has drained away.

Ha ha - so Rupert has bought the Emporer's new clothes. Well done ruddy cheeks - guess what? We're fecking naked!!!!!!

It's nasty slowed down true. But at full pelt he sees the ball and goes for it, nicks it and follows through. Years ago it would have been fine, these days it is often a red. But I still maintain, young lad, big stage - you can use your common sense as a ref. both feet were not off the ground and that's the only legislature for refs.
